Chapter 2: Our Life
The moment I heard the alarm my body automatically stands up to prepare my brother's maintenance. He was diagnosed with acute congenital heart disease, he was about 3 years old when my father discovered about his illness. Father did all the things he can just to send my brother in a hospital that can do a heart transplant, we flew to New York for his operation without me knowing that my father also suffered from Leukemia.
2 years after my brother was released from the hospital, Father was accepted in his new job across the country. We went back to the Philippines and he flew to the UAE, for a year he was providing us all the things we needed and after that he went missing. 4 months after he went missing the DFA called telling us that father was gone. Shock was an understatement, we were broken. Our father came back without telling us how much he misses us and how much he loves us, he's gone. He came back in a casket and he will never comeback. My brother was oblivious of what's happening, I under go depression to the point I tried killing myself but when I woke up my brother was crying telling me not to leave him. And then it hits me, I still have my brother to take care.
We became orphan, many people told me to asked someone to adopt my brother but I refuse. He's the only family I have and giving him to others is not included in choice. We will survive on our own. Besides, he's my first love. The first guy I truly love, and giving him away will make me crazy.
I applied as a cook in a diner near our house so we can eat but unfortunately everything is expensive even his maintenance that he needs to take.
I tried applying many works as I can so just we can survive, in the morning I worked as a Cook until afternoon, then at night I'm a cashier in a bakery and in midnight I'm a waitress and a singer.
For 12 years I've been working, there are some guys tried to win my heart but since I have my responsibilities as a mom and dad to my brother I never entertained one of them. I never returned to school because it was too expensive besides I'm too busy to study, that's why I was so happy when my brother was given a full scholarship that will take part when he enrolled in high school until he finishes his studies in college at any course he want to take. On the other side, everytime I have vacant time or day I would spend it reading books so won't be left out. Education is very important, it's the only thing in this world that anyone can't steal.
