Chapter 59: Long Live the King

The two golems stood absolutely still. Then with a mighty crash, they knelt on the ground in front of Fang.

"We salute the King!" they barked, their right fist formed into a ball over their chest. Fang smiled again, and raised his hand.

The slave owner stared at this scene with shock evident on his pudgy face.

'This can't be... this bastard? King of these lands? GOD DAMN IT!'

He started to foam at the mouth, froth dribbling out. His eyes rolled back in his head and his knees buckled and he fell to the ground, unconscious.

Seeing this scene, Fang walked over to him, with apathy in his eyes.

"Seems like a dog will always die a dog. Look you can even see the foam. Must be a rabid one," he remarked.

Shaking his head, he motioned for the golems to take the man away. Calmly walking towards the frightened girl, he raised his hands in a gesture of peace. The girls shrank away, rubbing furiously at her eyes.

Fang stared at her.

"Must not cry...," she muttered.

"Why not?" Fang asked, overhearing her mumbling.

She looked up sharply, panicking and then looked back down again.

"Must not cry... crying is not allowed... won't be whipped again...," she continued.

Fang sucked air through his teeth and raged silently. It seemed as if this girl's masters had beat her for crying. Stretching his hand outwards, he executed a deft movement and a green aura spread to the girl. Within seconds she was fully healed.

Mumbling to herself, she didn't notice the difference. Then she took a step forward and started in surprise.

"Pain... gone?" she questioned.

Fang smiled.

"Little girl, you're free," he spoke.

"Free?" she replied.

Fang nodded and broke the iron chain holding her with a swift chop.

The girl stumbled forward. Looking up at Fang, she stared at his face.

"What does 'free' mean?" she asked.

Fang stared at her, in shock. Sighing he reached out to pat her head. Instinctively, she flinched and drew back.

"Easy... I won't hurt you," he spoke.

The girl trembled in fear and gradually relaxed, although she continued to twitch as if expecting something bad to happen at any moment. Fang sighed. This girl was a tragic example of the evils of slavery. Unfortunately he couldn't do much to dispel the fear in her mind. But perhaps, Gold could.

Snapping his fingers, he sent out a pulse of energy. Within seconds three golems formed in front of him.

"Take this girl to Gold. Have him build her a residence and take care of her. I also want him to start training her in cultivating and martial techniques," he commanded.

The golems nodded and surrounded the girl. With a shriek, she leaped back in fear, claws extending from her hands.

Fang raised his hand.

"Girl, please stop. We don't wish to hurt you. These men will give you food. Go with them," he spoke in a calm and caring manner.

The girl hesitated. Hearing such a calm voice made her relax, but she couldn't trust strangers so easily. Fang sighed. His body blurred and the girl fell, unconscious. He motioned for the golems to take her and they disappeared.

"The world is a cruel place," he spoke.

Staring at the spot where the girl had been, he shook his head and walked away.
