Chapter 4: chapter four : hope
Sally still sat alone in the basement. There was only one faint light down there but it was very worn and she could just about see. The dried tears on her face made her feel even more alone , was this really all she was alive for? did she only exist for the purpose of being abused and broken? what kind of God would do this?
She raced with questions building up in her head , the dried tears suddenly made her face feel weird and dry. Sally still had her backpack on from school so she took out the wipes she kept in there and cleaned her bruised face that was covered in dust and dirt.
Looking at the broken watch on her wrist she saw that it was very late , she had lost time completely, it was almost 11 o clock. She hadn't eaten , she hadn't changed her clothes , she was filthy and covered in dirt from being thrown down the stairs.
Sally took her thin , small coat from inside her bag she lay down , using her bag as a pillow , and covered her torso in the coat. It was freezing in the basement and it was dark and cold , it had a funny smell and was always damp. She was locked down there and was only allowed to leave for school in the morning.
Her night was restless , Sally had almost no sleep and felt Ill and in tremendous amounts of pain. Using the walls as support she slowly stood up , she had woken up early so she could get ready in the morning. Sally reached down slowly for her bag and coat and walked with her feet dragging slightly , she grabbed the corroded railing and made her way up the basement stairs. As Sally opened the door the stench of marijuana filled the air , a haze floated amongst the air. As Sally inhaled the aroma filled her lungs and she reacted by coughing , her lungs felt like fire and her throat was burning.
Sally covered her mouth to stop coughing she wasn't ready to get beat or insulted harshly by her parents or parent again. She knew that if she was to wake her parents she would definitely be in trouble.
