Chapter 3: The Piano Key (Mi)

"Only a chosen few gets to have a gift of classical music, especially the violin," one of her she-friends said. The gift of classical music refer to fairies with a talent to play classical instruments. Only a few have such gifts and are often looked up in the kingdom.

"While singing is not very uncommon, Kariza got to have a silver one," one of the male little bug added. The gift of singing are represented by the symbol of microphone, but the degree is represented by the material it is made. The most common are bronze and iron, while the special ones are silver and platinum. But very rare were gold and diamond.

"Most bugs get one gift, but Kariza got two which makes her special," one of her she-friends proudly said.

"But since both of her gifts were special, then that makes her extra special," boasted by the other he-bug.

Kariza raised her head high as she was showered by her friends with compliments. Even those in their neighborhood would always praise her. She felt like a superstar in their neighborhood and she wanted to be recognized in the kingdom. She would only make friends with those who have special talents or two or more gifts, those she would acknowledge as 'on her level.' So she would always bully Luna, having no gift and doing so makes her feel even more superior. Her friends who were following her would also feel superior being friends with someone who has special gifts.

Luna sadly looked down on her open empty hands. Kariza smirked at her.

"Go away, giftless little bug. We're going to practice for the Talent Show," she told her.

"But I was here first," Luna looked up and replied. "I'm not yet leaving." She has been hiding in that clearing and concentrating for months, with the hope of finding the key and discovering her gift.

"What's the point? You won't be performing anyway," Kariza crossed her arms and walked closer. Her crew followed behind.

Luna was stung by her words. She tightened her fists and bit her lip just to hold back her tears. She doesn't want to be seen as a loser more than what people already think she is. Her parents believed in her. They kept encouraging her that it will definitely appear since it's not yet the end of the year. That's why she's still holding on to the thin thread of hope. But only a week was left for her.

Seeing that Luna stood her ground and refused to leave, Kariza insulted her further. "Maybe being called 'giftless' is not enough for your reality," she started. "Legends say that if a gift does not appear and the year has passed on, a fairy's wing will also not appear." Then she looked around at her friends as if to make a point. Her mocking gaze landed back at her. With a smug look she pointed at her and shouted, "Look everyone! Standing here is a legendary flightless one!" Then she bursted out laughing.
