Chapter 3: Chapter 3 : Wager
Hearing elder Loxius's word, Max was lost in his thoughts. Moments later, his face turned more resolute.
"Big brother, I will fight."
The crowd was stunned by Max's word. Everyone in the village knows how weak Max is. Max has yet to even form a spirit core. Compared to his peers who had formed a spirit core and entered the essence transformation stage, Max can be said to not even have yet to set foot in the path of becoming an Elemental Master.
Jin, on the other hand, has already achieved 3-star out of 10-stars in the essence transformation stage. Even though they are only one year apart in age, but the difference in potential is huge. Even compared to others his age, Jin is a genuine genius that far surpassed his peers.
To reach 3-star essence transformation, one would take at least five years on average after forming a spirit core. But to have reached 3-star essence before the age of 15 years of age, that is a rare genius even in small cities much less a small village like firefly village.
Hearing Max's reply, Kuro Kiba sunk deep into his thoughts. At the same time, Elder Loxius had a mischievous smile. How can Max win against his grandchild?
Someone who has not even formed a spirit core beating a 3-star essence transformation stage, that can only be seen as a joke. Only fools will believe in sayings like cultivation stage doesn't matter.
"Elder Loxius. Since my younger brother agrees, I will agree with your suggestion. But I must ask. In normal case we can't come to an answer, the Phyonet in brother's possession, is supposed to be his. This is the normal method we settle matters, right grand elder?"
"It is indeed as Kuro Kiba said"
"Since it's like this, my brother is offering his Lightning Phyonet as a stake. What will elder Loxius or Jin will offer as a stake."
Elder Loxius frowned. He found it weird that Kuro Kiba's offer to continue the competition weird. But after some thought, he calmed down. On the last test conducted by the village academy six months ago, Max has still yet to form a spirit core. Even right now, he can't sense any presence of a spirit core in Max's body.
"Then we will stake the Azure Turantanium Blade. Since the value of the Turantanium Blade is far higher than that of the Lightning Phyonet, will junior Kuro Kiba and Max be willing to add in the Violet Ice Jade Pendant?"
The crowd gasped in surprise. The Azure Turantanium Blade was a blade made with the rare Turantanium ore. Turantanium ore can only be found near underwater volcanos area from another continent. To add to the value of the blade, it was a gift to Jin's ancestor from the first grand elder, the founder of the village. Turantanium is an ore that sells for a high price even in the cities.
Compared to the Azure Turantanium Blade, the value of Violet Ice Jade Pendant is far inferior. But the Violet Ice Jade Pendant is also an item belonging to the first grand elder. It is a treasure passed down to the second grand elder's descendants. The second grand elder's descendants line ended with the fifth grand elder, who didn't have any living offspring other than adopted sons Maxx and Kuro Kiba.
There's also a myth in the village that the Purple Ice Jade Pendant is one of two keys to a hidden treasure of the first grand elder. It has been 200 years since the first grand elder has left the village and there have been no clues regarding this hidden treasure to this day.
Everyone's attention turned towards Kuro Kiba.
"Max what do y…. I see. Elder Loxius, we have a deal. Please set the time and date."
The moment before everyone turned their attention towards Max when kuru Kiba was asking for Max's opinion, Max's eyes shine a faint yellow glow. It only lasted for a millisecond, but that was enough for Kuro Kiba to notice it. Unnoticed by anyone, the two brothers had a plan.
Looking at Kuro Kiba's confident face accepting his conditions, elder Loxius's heart skipped a beat. But after some thinking, there is practically no way for Max to beat Jin in a fair fight. Even though he has a feeling of falling into a trap, elder Loxius could not find anyway things can go wrong for him and Jin.
"Since junior Max looks confident. Why not in another hour. No Elemon, Armor or pills allowed. You can only bring a weapon if you want. They will fight until the other gives up or is unconscious. No one can interfere. Does that suit junior Kuro Kiba."
Even though he feels max can't defeat Jin, elder Loxius fears Kuro Kiba's interference may endanger Jin. With so little time and no interference from Kuro Kiba, Max is destined to lose to Jin.
Kuro Kiba smiled, this elder is too cautious indeed. After all elder Loxius has been an elder for a long time, it is only natural that he is so sceaming. But it will all be in vain because no one can expect Max has hidden secret is only known by him and fifth grand elder.
"Then we will meet elder Loxius and Jin in the arena in an hour. I hope that Grand elder may be present to judge the fairness of the competition."
The crowd was in frenzy. A discussion broke among them. Kuro Kiba was well known as a smart person. Why would he accept a duel between Max and Jin? Maybe Kuro Kiba didn't like Max from a long time ago. Some even thought Max has a secret, but they quickly dismissed it.
With so many questions around Kuro Kiba's acceptance, the villagers were eagerly waiting for the grand elder's comments. After all, if the grand elder suddenly decides that Max and Jin are not allowed to fight and wager, they must still follow the grand elder's orders.
"Since both parties have decided to compete in the arena, then I can only approve and accept to be the judge of the fight. I will also remind that after the competition both parties should not hold grudges caused by any injuries or loss by the competition. If you can expect my conditions, we will meet at the arena in an hour."
