Chapter 3: Finally Out

"What's meant to be,

will always find a way."

***

When Aurora was taken from the laboratory room, it was winter, and the floor were covered by the thick powder snow. Now that she is walking away from it, the floor was again covered by the snow.

Aurora just realized that every important happening in her life may it be a bad or good happening; the snow was always watching her.

Does that mean that it was her mother? After all, the day her mother died was the first snow fall.

How she missed her.

How she missed everything in the world!

Aurora and together with the two scary looking men that were her escorts are now walking outside of the building. The feeling of walking in boots were new to her. She wasn't used to walk with shoes. In the laboratory room, Doctor Stanley barely let her walk around the room. So, the sudden work out of her muscles was so strange for her body that she can feel her legs getting tired as they continued to walk. But she kept quiet and never complain. They might punish her if she voices out her concern for herself.

Aurora decided to distract herself so her focus will shift to other things. She had missed the clean breeze of the air. Aurora's eyes drank everything she could see. The covered trees, the freezing small cottages for the servants, the animal barns and even the huge estate of her father. She looked for her mother's old cottage but when she spotted it on the place that she remembered, she was disappointed when saw that it was closed. It seems that it has been using by the other servants. What would she expect? That they will let the house in abandon and unoccupied?

She herself didn't even expect that she will be ever coming out of the lab room. Which made her now confused as she thinks of it.

Why did her father let her out? After nine years of being caged, why now?

Aurora was not aware of the wary glances the two men were giving her. It was so new to them to see someone out of the laboratory room - alive. Mostly, they were burned corpses of an unrecognizable person with the white gown on. But today - it was the other way around. They kept their distance from her - afraid of what disease she might have - but close enough that if she tried to run, they can easily reach her. Although it will be too impossible for her to run from them. The girl looks too weak and small they even thought of her a 15 years old little girl.

They led Aurora inside the estate and as they walked closer and closer to the double front door, Aurora's steps were becoming forced and hesitant.

What should she expect when she entered the house?

A warm and welcoming party? She doubts it. Nothing warm and welcoming about her supposed to be family.

By the time they finally arrived right in front of the huge estate, Aurora's knees were already trembling of exertion and she was panting hard. Her two-escort looked at her weirdly before dinging the doorbell button.

Thankfully, she has already composed herself before the door was opened and revealed the old butler. Aurora remembered him, - Butler Gill - the grumpy old man who always scolds her when she was still young.

Butler Gill invited them to come in and was instantly led - if her memory is right - to her father's office.

While walking inside of the house, everything Aurora remembered had completely changed. From the orange tiled floor to the yellow and white walls. Even the old furniture was now replaced by new ones. Sofas, cabinets, crystal chandeliers and even the old maids! Aside from the Butler, every scurrying maids were unrecognizable.

So caught up in her surroundings, Aurora didn't even notice that they are already standing in front of the big intimidating door of her father's office.

The man on her left knock the door and after a moment, an old voice that is too familiar for Aurora to forget was resounded inside of the room. She entered alone, leaving the two men to guard outside the door. Aurora was met by her father's cold grey eyes. She instantly bowed her head and continued to walk with a shaky step towards her father's table.

"Sit."

She obeyed instantly, afraid that if she keeps him waiting, she will be punishing again. The last time she saw her father was when she had her outburst by the sudden change of her hair color. The time when he claimed her body from herself. Never again did he show up in her room.

"Listen now, girl." Commanded of her father's hard voice. "In a month, you will be going to stay here. Do you remember the attic?" Aurora nodded her still bowed head.

Of course, how could she forget? Her half-sisters were always locking her up in that place. Then, they will be going to complain to the Mistress that she was being sluggish by hiding herself in the locked-room. She never complains about it so in the end, she was punished by more difficult works and without even food to help her finish the given job, resulting for her to more punishment.

"Clean it, for it was going to be your new room. You are to stay there, until I asked of your presence nor ordered you to come out, understood?" Again, Aurora nodded without complain.

"After a month someone will going to fetch you here. Say a word about everything on yourself and I will going to overdose you with my most poisonous drug you have never test."

A threat without meaning. Aurora wasn't afraid. What is there to be afraid of when death become her best friend? The man will just be giving her a favor if he ever does it. What was there to live? She didn't even have her body for herself. What is more to lose? Nothing. She has nothing.

Aurora is breathing but shes not living. Sooner or later she'll find her fate. It doesn't matter anymore if it's in the hands of her father or another evil. She stopped caring for everything the moment she lost herself.

"Now go."

And leave she did. On the way to the attic - in the third floor of the house, west wing of the secret room - Aurora is thankful that none of her halfsiblings have she encounter. If so, she doesn't know what to do. Surely, by her sudden appearance and ugly transformation they will probably going to drag her out of the house and demand to stay outside rather than inside.

When she found the attic, Aurora started to clean the room. Although, her body is not used to work, she did her best to do the things she remembered in housekeeping - cleaning the webs and dust, organizing the box in one place and finally, sweeping the floor with mop by the given cleaning tools of a kind maid.

After she cleaned the small room, Aurora finally let her overly exhausted body to slump in the wall. She was so tired that sweat of perspiration were coating on her white skin - though she never dared to remove any of her clothing for she might scare the servants away, if ever they will see her. Even her hood was up and covering her head and just the half of her face were exposed for them to see. She was also starving-causing for her to feel the ever-present pain in her body. But if she was full of food, the pain was bearable enough to forget its existence inside her. Even her throat was begging for water.

Aurora thought her father had forgotten about her but when a maid came knocking at her door, a sigh of relief escapes her lips. There was a food and water, delivered for her. That night, she slept contentedly beside the wall using the given folded bed by her father with pillows and sheets to cover herself.
