Chapter 17: Aura techniques

"Great! More using our limited points."

"Well at least it's better than being eaten by a random monster."

"True. What should I focus on when choosing a technique and is their anything I should be careful of. I really don't feel like getting knocked out for the second time."

"For Aura techniques it's all about how you move the energy inside your body while magic is all about moving the energy outside in the form of runes. A good example of this is the stacked fist technique that allows it's user to apply the strength of two blows in one by spinning the energy of one punch in the body and then releasing it at the same time as the next punch."

"So spells use runes and the pushing of Mana outside the body while techniques use the energy flow paths in the body and Aura to work?"

"Yep. I think you might have an easier time with Aura techniques on account of your magic problem."

"True but now I don't have someone to give me tips on how to use lightning, which is my most attack oriented affinity."

"Well I can't help you much with ranged attacks. I do know a close range lightning attack but it's kind of... self damaging."

"Self damaging? Do I pour lightning out of my hand?"

"Well it's more of a fist but when you strike the heat created by the attack will spread out and will burn your hand. A dragon doesn't have to worry about that due to our scales being resistant to the elements we have affinities with but a human doesn't have that."

"I'll learn it any way. Should make for a good surprise attack if an enemy thinks I'm already down for the count."

"OK then. You should go into the rewards tab and find two or three decent techniques for your affinities. AH. Also don't forget that you need to choose ones that fit your physical affinities at the same time."

"Got it. While I'm doing that what will you be doing?"

"Readjusting my body so I can use my spells and techniques without any issue."

"That sounds like it will take a while. Should we wait to set out a few days later so you can recover more strength?"

"Good idea. Lets wait for three days. This should be enough for me to recover my strength till about the sixth level of the mortal stage and my combat ability to about the second stage."

"OK and it will also give me some time to get used to the techniques I choose."

"Good. During the night we'll stay in the underground and during the day we'll go to the first flour and gather some edible plants. Remember don't choose anything to crazy."

Liz laid down and closed her eyes. John guessed that she was meditating and moved a few more feet away so as to not disturb her while she readjusted herself. He decided to not sleep due to him just waking up and no longer feeling tired; even his headache was gone now. He started to think of what he needed in a technique.

(Well what kinds of techniques should I go for? A defensive one would be good to have. Maybe a healing one as well. Lastly a good mace technique would be good. Are their techniques for specific weapons?)

John looked into the rewards tab and started to look for techniques. First he limited what he could view to things that would suit him. Mostly ones with his element or that would work with his body type. He found a few good ones for defensive techniques but most either focused to much on defending from one thing like only certain elements or only from ranged piercing weapons like arrows or greatly limited mobility. Some even just straight up turned a person into a turtle. Although this would be usable versus those at the same level if used with starvation tactics or just some one stronger it would be no different from suicide. After some heavy deliberation he finally chose the Stone Body Armor for it's better than average defense and the ability to still move around without major problem. It did come with the problem of making action needing lots of dexterity impossible but he had low dexterity to begin with so he would be far less affected by it when compared to other. It also had an emergency mode that would increase it's defensive power and even speed by using ones blood which wouldn't have as many demerits for John due to his vitality and the second technique he would choose.

John began to look into the techniques that would fit well with his wish for a good healing skill and was not disappointed. As it turns out most healing techniques required the use of the life affinity. After reading the descriptions John came to realize that the life affinity was apparently one of rarer affinities. A lot of the descriptions said that using a medium like a special pill could make the technique work but it would be better to actually have the needed affinity. Heck one even straight up said that due to the life affinity being difficult to find that it would only focus on using the pill method for healing. After a bit of searching John finally found what he wanted, the Virulent Healing technique. This technique specializes in it's tenacity to heal and the added effect of it having the light affinity as well making it so that it can also help deal with curses up to certain degree.

Lastly was a weapon technique. To sum it up it there were only a few for maces. Sword and spears had a near endless supply. Little less for staves. Heck there was even 20 for marksmen but only two for maces. There was the heavy strike style and the light strike style. The heavy style was focused on dealing lots of damage to more well defended opponents but lacked in terms of speed while the light mace style focused on quicker strikes that was more suited to normal combat. Naturally he wouldn't be faced with any armored opponents for the foreseeable future so he went for the light style.

In total this shopping spree cost 59 points in all. This could have been worse but it seems that techniques with more than one affinity were cheaper and also mace techniques were basically dirt cheap. That left Liz and him only 70 points at the end.

(We really need to get to a human area with some actual dungeon divers.)
