Chapter 2: 1.SCHOLARSHIP

"Pranavi ! Pranavi! aahh! this girl making me shout at this age .I'll cane her with my stick once I get her"

"I am coming grandma. Here I am. My lady tell me what's your command" a girl came jumping and hopping like a grasshopper towards the furious old lady.

" Where have you been ?huh! I have turned the world upside down and look at you you are giggling like a monkey here." the old lady scolded her with full authority giving her a scary look." Oh my beautiful grandma calm down and tell me why have you turned the whole world upside down, yet I am standing on my legs and not on my head... hehehe..." the girl laughed again showing her beautiful dimples. "Here take this, it came from some Axxciiiillll university." Grandma extended her hand to pass the envelope. "Just check it out, what is there in it. " Pranavi eyes widened and she stood there as still as a statue when she heard that the telegram post her grandma was holding came from Excel university . She was unable to move as if she were tied from shackles, her soul had already left her body and went on a tour to seven wonders of the world.

It was then that her grandma jolted her and forcibly handed her the letter that she was holding since then. Grandma didn't waste any further minute and straight away headed to the puja ghar for offering prayers.

Pranavi's grandma is a religious woman and a firm believer of Hinduism and the only family of Pranavi after her parents died when she was only 5 years old. After pranavi's parents unfortunate death and being abandoned by her younger son at this old age she became the sole guardian of Pranavi. She raised Pranavi, never making her feel that she was without parents and looked after all her needs. She educated her and made her an independent girl. The only restriction she ever put on Pranavi was that she never let her to leave India, to be more precise she never allowed her to leave the city.

Pranavi stood there in daze for about a few seconds, her hands still trembling to open the letter but after she heard her grandma chanting prayers she immediately came out of daze and with her shivering hand she opened the letter. Her eyes widened and a bright smile appeared on her face showing her cute dimples. She started jumping and dancing again. "yeyy! I got the scholarship. Finally I can study in the best university in South Korea" but as soon as the word ' South Korea' came out of her mouth all her happiness vanished in no second, as if some thunder lightening fell on her. Her eyes suddenly lost the charm and were filled with gloominess as she realized that her grandmother would never allow her to go away from her. It was as if in one moment she was on the cloud nine and suddenly she was dropped from there. But after a moment her eyes sparkled with hope and her lips curved upward again showing her marvellous dimples as if she was given a parachute when she was thrown from cloud nine for her safe landing.

She knew her grandmother won't allow her to go away easily so she thought of a plan to trick her after all she can't miss the golden opportunity she got after so much of hard work. Pranavi was a very intelligent girl since her childhood, she was such a bibliophile that she had to wear eyesight correcting spectacles since she was only 8 years old. After burning midnight oil and leaving no stone unturned she finally got this opportunity to study in her dream university. She knew her grandmother was ageing day by day and now it's her turn to return the favours by taking care of her grandmother in the same way she took care of her since childhood till now. She no longer wanted to be the burden on her grandma but to become her strong support for which she needed to study hard.

* puja ghar is like a small temple built inside the house where people worship

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Honestly I don't know how it will turn out to be. This is my first time writing anything like this. Actually I will try to bring two cultures together in this piece, the Indian culture and the Korean culture however I never visited korea and all my knowledge is based on the K-dramas that I watch. This is to express my love for Korea and Korean people and at the same time India and my Indian people. This is not to hurt anyone, forgive me if you find anything offensive. Let me know your opinions.
