Chapter 20: Homecoming

After all the tests were run, I was finally allowed to go home. However before we even left the room to head home I had to bind my chest and don male clothes again to keep up this facade. My mom helped me put the binder on and get me into the sling that I would be having to use for a few weeks.

"Parker, are you sure that you are going to be okay enough to go back to classes?" Mom fretted.

"Yes, Jane I have already missed a lot of school and if my people don't see me they will start to lose faith in me or start to worry. Plus I need to get a new phone again this one is broken." I said calmly.

John walked alongside mom and looked casually at my broken phone. He leaned forward and grabbed it out of my hands. With nimble fingers, he switched out the son cards and gave me his phone.

"Don't make her worry, take this phone and I will get mine replaced." He ordered.

I just nodded my head and glanced at my mom. They seemed to have gotten closer again since I've been in here. All that arguing and fighting and they are starting to act like a normal couple again. Jeez what luck, here I am planning on escaping this man and mom is falling back in love with him. I suppose I should be glad it's with my dad but who knows maybe it'll be okay. I feel the phone vibrate in my hand, it appears I have been away enough to cause some concern.

I open up the lock screen and there was several texts from Jacobi asking me what was going on and why I wasn't answering. I laughed softly and sent a quick message:

Was in the hospital taking a vacation. Heading home now. I'll be back in class tomorrow.

There wasn't an immediate reply so I turned my phone to silent and allowed myself to be wheeled out to the car. A line of bodyguards were around the vehicle and around the entrance. There were several onlookers and they all seemed to crane their necks to see what was going on. Mom helped me climb into the back seat and slid in beside me. John didn't climb inside instead he closed the door and from what I could see through the tinted windows walked to another car just ahead of us.

We set off towards the house in silence the vehicle John was in veered off to another direction while we stayed en route to the house. The car was silent but there was an uneasy stillness as well from me and mom. After the last incident it made me a bit nervous but after I looked to check that there was one more guard vehicle with us it made me feel a bit better. I am going to have to increase my training time with Grandpa and add onto that some weapons training from now on. I smiled despite the uneasiness that I felt. To my surprise there was a whole new group of faces that were added onto the guard detail.

"Mom, who are the new guards?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, the Mercenary group has given us their best team as compensation for attacking you. I used to work with them and unfortunately for them they picked my child to target. They are lucky that they have better use to us alive than six feet under. " Mom sneered.

A shiver went down my spine but I didn't let it show I just nodded my head and looked ahead. I heard the gates opening and let out a sigh of relief. From the long driveway you could see a mass of black shapes by the front of the mansion. I squinted and then it dawned on me they were our people standing out front anxiously waiting for our arrival home. I sat up straight and nodded towards mom as we pulled up. As soon as we came to a stop the back door was opened and held for us. Mom stepped out and turned to help me get out, but I was already half out of the car when she turned towards me. I stood to my full height and looked at all of the men and women anxiously waiting for us. I stepped forward and stopped directly in front of them looking calmly at them all.

" I'm home, and those who dared to make an attempt on my life will be dealt with by the very people whom had tried to attack me. They were hired but when they realized which family it was that they were messing with, they apologized and vowed to ensure my safety. There are a group of guards that will be taking over my security detail alongside my Mother, Jane. We will not be shaken and we will give back all that was dealt to us tenfold to those who dared attack anyone in our family. " I stated calmly.

Once I finished my speech a loud boisterous roar of approval came from the entire crowd. They were all nodding their heads in approval at my words and clapping their fellow members. Off to the side I seen the thugs from the other day standing at attention next to Grandpa. They stood tall and motionless behind him, not daring to move. I nodded my head towards them and then made my way up the stairs towards the entrance. As I stepped up into the house and sitting there was Jacobi. I faltered in my steps but quickly regained my composure and walked towards him with one hand in my pocket and the other in the sling.

"You look like hell. " Jacobi chuckled.

"Ha ha very funny Jacobi. I'd like to see how you would look like if you were ambushed and shot. Then coming so close to death you see someone you've never met but know that they are family to come back into a hospital room. " I joked with him.

" Well when that day comes I hope that you will be the first one to tell me that I look like hell. " Jacobi chuckled.

" I suppose everyone at school has started talking about what happened or at least those in our type of work. Do you know which one of the families did it? If you do allow me to help you exact some justice for you. I know we may not know each other well but once I decide that someone is my friend I will do everything that I can to help them out." Jacobi stated.

" I take my friendships seriously as well, and I do not but the Mercenary group is taking care of those matters. They have their own rules and we will accept whatever they deem fit for the punishment, we will know then who it was when they make their move. But thank you Jacobi." I said calmly.

Jacobi reached forward and pulled me into a hug, I was not expecting that at all. He wrapped his other arm around my shoulders being gentle enough to not hurt me. He took a deep breath and I wrapped my good arm around his waist cautiously. We stood like that for a moment before he broke the hug and stepped back.

" Parker, you had me so worried and I am so happy that you are okay. Try not to scare me like that again. " He whispered.

I could feel my eyes widen in shock at his words and I'm sure my face displayed the same expression. He looked down awkwardly and shifted in place. I smiled and nodded my head to try and reassure him that I would be more careful. After he made sure that I understood and agreed with him, he took his leave. Leaving me in the house to carry on with my day as if it were any other day.
