Chapter 4: Where I was When the Gas Fell V1

Note: From Ashley's Point of View

Today I went to visit my cousin Stacy. She got influenza, so I drove over alone. Had to be alone though, since I'm not 18 yet. My dad always wanted me carry guns and ammo in my car, hidden in the trunk compartment that should hold a spare tire. I've asked him why I should carry the guns there instead of something normal, like a spare tire. 'What if I got a flat?' 'That's what cell phones are for' he would respond. Little did I know that saved my life.

"Why am I cooking for you? You just have a little flu."

"It's not just a cold Ashley, it's INFLUENZA This is a killer flu. Literally. Tens of thousands of people die a year to this 'little flu'. I could die!"

"And how many people get influenza last year?"

"According to the CDC, the 2017-2018 season was classified as high severity across all ages."

"And this season? How is it classified?"

"...Lower severity than last season."

"And how many adults died last season."

"...Not published by the CDC since adult deaths nationwide was not nationally noticeable."

"And how old are you?"

"...21..."

"Is that an adult?"

"...Yes…"

"Then quite being a baby and help me cook! You could use a home cooked meal. I bet you have been eating a cup of noodles three times a day since the doctor said you had influenza."

"...Yes…"

"Speaking of which, the doctor diagnosed you with influenza and let you leave. Wouldn't the doctor hospitalize you if there was the slightest chance it could kill you?"

"...Yes…"

"Then stop being lazy and get your ass off that couch!! I bet you didn't want to drive back to Porter Ranch cause you were lazy and used the influenza as an excuse to not drive back. Isn't that right?"

"...Yes…"

"And that's why Aunt Hope made me drive here during my spring break to take care of you, since neither of your parents could get any days off from work. Do you even have influenza or did you lie and actually only have the common cold?"

"No, it's actually influenza."

"Show me the hospital paper!!"

"It's on the desk."

"I'm surprised, you actually have influenza. Wait, what is that outside the window?"

"It looks like blue gas. It seems to be rising from the ground."

"Quickly, look it up. I got some hits on social media under #Blue Gas. Some people seem fine. There are some videos on social media of teenagers pretending to be vaping."

"I just got an amber alert. Reading it now."

"I'm a teenager, what do I care about amber alerts? I blocked them on my phone."

"Oh...my…"

"What?"

"Quickly, shut all the windows!!"

"Why? Seems harmless. I thought you were sick. Wow you got up fast."

"The amber alert says that the blue gas is lethal to some people!!! Quickly close the windows!!!"

Oh crap. This is serious. We go around closing the windows. After double checking that all the windows are closed, the gas covers the windows.

"Ashley, I breathed it in a little while closing my bedroom window. I thought I was fine but I don't feel so goo…"

"Stacy, stay with me. Don't go into the light. Stacy. Stacy!! Stacy!!!!"

"I'm..hav...ing...trouble...think...brain...slow…"

"Stacy, breath, breath. I'm going to call 911." I check my phone. No signal of any kind. I try Stacy's laptop. No internet signal at all. That's when I realized. I'm trapped here with no way of calling for help. I try to get Stacy to drink water. It doesn't help. All I was able to do was make her comfortable as I watched her die. A few hours of crying on and off after she died, the fog lifted. All regular communication still out. Gun fire in the distance. UFOs over the 5 freeway. I grab my Remilton from the trunk and see two centaur aliens coming down the street. Then I realized it. This is an alien invasion. They killed Stacy. I start firing while screaming in mental agony. I then decided to make them pay for this.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So that's why you're on the Centron kill list."

"Yeah, I actually lost track of how many of those alien bastards I killed. Blew up a couple of their grounded ships as well. They were all parked at a gas station. That attack cost me my car though. And all the explosives I had at the time. Grenades, c4, all of it I managed to grab."

"That's still impressive."

"So how are your parents on the kill list."

"Well, my dad has apparently killed the highest commanding officer and all the replacements. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that the high ranking commanding officer I killed up on Mulholland Drive was either the highest or second highest commanding officer. Now I realize why they were so mad."

"Well, it's getting late. We should sleep." So we went to sleep on different couches. Well, I hope this new companion doesn't die like the others.

Sorry for not updating the series for so long. Lost my job, among other things, so updates will be a little unstable for a while. Check out my other series, Dreamia and Evolution in Another World. I will definitely update those at least once this week. Any kind of support, be it via ******* or otherwise, it greatly appreciated.
