Chapter 26: 'Walking' Me Home

Mia: Jason?

What's he doing here? I thought he won't come today as well. Looks like his wound's healed though. He looks back and forth between me and Jordan before slowly walking towards us. He stops on front of me and smiles slightly.

Jason: I came to pick you up but, if you're busy...

He looks at Jordan behind me. Is he taking his first step towards what we we spoke about? Hold up, this is good opportunity to ask him what I've been wondering about!

Jordan: Actually-

Mia: Sure!

Hm? Was he saying something? I turn my head to look at Jordan.

Jordan: I-It's nothing much, we can talk about this tomorrow.

Mia: Okay- Hey!

Jason: We'll take our leave then.

As I'm engaging into a small conversation with Jordan, Jason places his hand on my back and pushes me forward slightly, nudging me to start walking. He leads me away and I glance behind at Jordan who smiles awkwardly at me in return.

I look back ahead feeling a little guilty about suddenly leaving him like that. What's Jason up to now? I look up at him worriedly. We turn around a corner and I finally speak up to break the silence.

Mia: You shouldn't have done that, he might get the wrong idea about us.

He stops and looks at me angrily.

Jason: So you wanted him to think that you're available?

Mia: Huh?

What's gotten into him?

Jason: He's the one you like, isn't he?

Mia: What?!

THAT'S why he dragged me away?! What in the world is wrong with him?! Wait...

Mia:... Are you jealous or something?

Jason:..! Wh-What are you talking about? Why would I be? I have no reason to be...

He goes blabbering on and on with his cheeks tinted red. I may not be the smartest person in the world but, he definitely is in denial and that means...

Mia: It's okay, it wasn't any of your business anyway.

I speak up unable to hear anymore of his white lies. Geez, that came out harsher than I thought.

Jason: What?

Mia: It was nice of you to think of picking me up but, I'll take my leave now.

Jason:....

I smile at him and start walk away when he grabs a hold of my hand.

Mia:..!

Jason: Wait. In that case... I'll take this from you.

He plucks the can of coffee from hand.

Mia: Huh?

Jason: He gave you this, right?

How did he know?!

Mia: Were you watching us or something?

Jason: What? No, I'm not a stalker. I have common sense; you both were holding the same beverage.

Huh, I guess that's one way to look at it.

Mia:.. I could've given it to him too.

Jason: I don't think so.

Mia: How can you say that?

How can he be so sure? Can I not buy a guy a drink as well? He raises the can to my eye level to make me read what it says. 'Café au Lait'..? What's wrong with that? I tilt my head in confusion.

Jason: I know you like sweet things and I'm pretty sure if it was you who bought it, you wouldn't miss this detail.

He points towards a spot on the can. It reads... 'Sugar free'..!

Mia: Holy...! Boy, aren't you observant!

Strangely even! Even I didn't notice it when he gave to me... since I wasn't going to drink it anyway. I hate canned coffees, I was just using it to warm my hands and not making Jordan feel bad.

Mia: Anyway, just because he gave it to doesn't mean that you can take it away.

I extend my hand out to him asking for the can.

Jason: He doesn't know you very well, do you still like him?

Mia:....

He's still at it. Fine, I'll let him keep it or do whatever he wants to. I give up and start walking away. Oh, there's an empty soda can on the pavement right ahead. There are no garbage bins in sight though.

Jason: You didn't answer my question..!

He starts to follow after me. We start walking side by side and when I look at the boyish look in his eyes when he asks me that, I burst out laughing unintentionally. He's taking this way to seriously.

Mia: You know, I never actually said that I liked him.

Jason:..! Hey, no fair.

*Clink!*

I kick the can to the side of the pavement but instead it hits a shadowy figure.

???: *whine*...

Uh-oh, I have a bad feeling about this... The figure slowly sits up to reveal a very dangerous looking street dog. It shoots death glares at us and begins to walk closer. It growls at me, showing it's sharp, white teeth. I swallow my saliva and a cold sweat drips down my back. He's going to bite my ass at this rate..!!

Mia: Run for your dear life!!

Jason:..?! H-Hey!

I grab Jason's hand and start running as fast as my legs can take me. I know you're weak, Jason, but there's no other way. We keep running for a while and both our breaths start becoming rugged.

Jason: I-I think... we.. lost him.

He informs me with his breath heavy.

Mia: Wha- Ah!

I turn my head to look at him but when I do, I lose focus and my foot slips. I feel a sharp pain on my ankle. I'm about to fall down but Jason catches my arm just in time.

Jason: Are you okay?!

Mia:... No.

I stagger to the corner of the street and squat down to inspect my injury. He kneels down next to me and takes a look at my ankle.

Jason: Looks like you twisted it.

Mia: You think?!

Jason: Hey, young lady, watch your attitude; I'm trying to help.

Mia:...

Now that's new, I don't generally talk to people that rudely. This isn't the first time I have used a sarcastic tone at him either; it was that day I woke up beside him on my couch. I AM angry at him right now but, after knowing what all he's been through, I just can't get myself to hate him.

Anyway, I'm still a few minutes away from my apartment building and can't walk like this. What am I going to do? I sigh unable to the of a solution. Just then..

Mia:..! Hey!

He picks me up in his arms and I protest.

Jason: How about this? Does your foot hurt now?

Mia: Y-You don't have to do this..!

Jason: I can't let you limp all the way to your house. Now, directions please.

Why do I get a feeling that he won't take 'no' for an answer? Well, it's not like I have a choice either way. I give up my urge to argue any further and do as he says.

Mia:... Straight ahead and then take a left.

Jason: Okay...

Is nobody worrying about that fact that we're so close?! I can't even look up at his face, if I look up, I'm afraid I... Wait, 'I' what?! Ugh, why am I the only one freaking out about this?! I bet my face is all red now.

I bury my face in his chest, hiding it as he carries me away and hear his calm heartbeat. How is he so calm about this?

Leaving that aside, this is the legendary 'princess carry'; I couldn't have even dreamed to experience it. This certainly is a first for me (letting alone the fact that it all happened because I kicked that stupid can on that damn dog)...
