Chapter 85: Teaching
"Nova. . . Nova. Wake up Nova." Nova felt himself being shaken awake. As he opened his eyes, Nova saw Daphne staring down at him. "The train is pulling up to the station and it is time to get off."
"I see. Why am I in your lap?" Nova asked.
"No reason." Daphne said with a victorious smile. He looked over at Hermione and Luna, who both seemed to be staring daggers at Daphne, well Hermione was at least. Luna was wearing some strange spiral glasses with a copy of the Quibbler in her lap.
"I see." Was all that Nova said.
"So Nova when could I expect to see you at my house this summer?" Daphne inquired.
"Well I am about to look into something at Gringotts with the Goblins, and depending on what they have for me, it could be in a few days or next week." Nova said.
"Oh. Okay." Daphne said. She seemed a little down after hearing that.
"Don't worry. I will be there before you know it. In fact, if I give you the list of material that I will need, do you think your family will be able to gather them?" Nova asked.
"YES! I mean, I am sure the Greengrass Family will be able to assist." Daphne seemed overly excited for a minute there.
"Ok. There are only three items that you will need: a dementor's cloak, phoenix ashes, and a big cauldron." Nova told her.
Hearing this the all the girls eyes went large. Those items were equal in their aspects of life and death.
As they got off the train, Nova greeted the Grangers.
"Hello Ian, Rose. How have you been?" Nova asked.
"Doing well. Did you and Hermione have a good year?" Ian asked, as Rose seemed to teleport her daughter away for some small talk.
Thinking about the year, Nova replied, "It was eventful."
"Good. Will you be joining us later during the summer? I am sure Hermione would love to have you over." Ian inquired.
"As much as I would like to, I have other arrangements at this time." Nova informed him.
"I understand. Well let me catch up to my wife and daughter before they leave me." Ian said as he shook Nova's hand.
Nova then walked outside and flew into the air and headed for Diagon Alley. When he arrived, Nova landed in front of Gringotts and made his way inside.
As soon as he walked in he was swarmed with goblins, "Lord Nova you have arrived. Wonderful. Would you like me to guide you to the smiths or would you like to relax?"
"The smiths. I want to see if there was any progress and if your people are worth my time."
"Very well." The goblin said. He then led Nova down a side hall towards the depths of the bank far lower than even the vaults lie. Soon they arrived in an area with lots of furnaces and workshops. This was where the goblins forged and crafted.
"Lord Nova, after 10 months of hard work and planning we have created a new design based on the quill you gave us." a goblin who appeared in front of Nova said.
"Show me."
Soon a group of goblins appeared with a quill on a felt pillow. Nova then picked up the feather and began to study it.
"I must say. The quality of the work is not bad. You used an alloy mix of goblin steel and beryllium with iridium as a stabilizing agent. During the process used type 7 standard forging hammers to remove any impurities. After the impurities were gone you soaked the steel in a solution for 6 months before reforging and starting the shaping process. Then after shaping, you used diamond tipped files to engrave and enchant the quill with unlimited ink and luster charms." Nova said while giving a breakdown of the quill craftsman ship.
Hearing all this the goblins had their mouths wide open in shock. For Nova did an accurate breakdown of their forging process.
"Lord Nova. That is indeed correct." Goblin A said while bowing down. "Please teach us."
Hearing this Nova looked at the goblin and then at the quill.
"Very well. I will teach you for 48 hours. If your people can gather for me a dementor cloak and phoenix ashes within this 48 hours I will teach and guide for the rest of this week." Nova said. He gave them this option since he knew that even though Greengrass Family had money, they didn't have that much money.
"Thank you Lord Nova!" the Goblin Smiths yelled. They then scrambled to find a compatriot to find the items Nova spoke of. After they returned, they guided Nova to an empty forge.
"Lord Nova, we goblins learn from watching. If you could start forging for us that would be the lessons we need." Random Goblin said.
"Very well." Nova then started to inspect the forge and told them improvements that they could make to the forge and its surroundings. He then showed them glyphs and runes they could add to better control heat and cooling of metals. Due to the sheer number of runes he had to go through this part of the lesson took a full 24 hours. And even though it wasn't a lot. The goblins would constantly ask questions. Not that Nova really cared.
After he helped advise them on the different types of runes, Nova then moved on to metal compounds and new alloy types. This really interested the goblin smiths. The alloy combinations and heat treatments that he informed them of were new and revolutionary to them. Normally such information wouldn't have been important but the combinations that Nova was giving them were unheard of and would help solve much of the issue they were having with certain magical metals such as adamantine and orichalcum.
Unfortunately for the goblins, 48 hours passed relatively quickly. And many looked devastated when Nova stood up from the stool he was on, it was only until a goblin came in with two chest did they silently cheer.
"Lord Nova, here are the Dementor Cloaks and Phoenix Ashes that you requested." Goblin Runner said.
Nova then opened the chests and saw a few black cloaks filled with the aura of death in one and in the other a heap of phoenix ashes.
"Indeed this will suit my needs quite nicely. Now onto our next subject." Nova said and like that he continued to speak and started to forge for the next rest of the week.
