Chapter 31: Three Islands
"Good morning to everyone!" Rantaro and Tsumugi said to all the students, gathered at Jabberwock park, located on the central island.
"Now we will proceed to explain this special activity," Rantaro said with a cheerful smile, "As you know Jabberwock island consists of five islands plus this central island we are in, you have had the chance to roam around all the islands freely, so some of you are familiarized with the environment of each"
As Rantaro explained, some students felt insecure, they just had explored the island they were residing on and maybe island number two, which had a beautiful beach accompanied by a beach house. However, some of them never stepped a foot inside the other four islands, which had totally different environments.
"We are going to pair you up in groups, and an island will be assigned to your group, your goal is to survive in these islands by making use of whatever is available on them," Tsumugi explanation made some students confused and insecure. "Different tasks will be assigned to each group, as the days pass,"
"Wait! Days?! How long will this activity be?" Tenko with a panicked voice interrupted Tsumugi.
"At most, it will take a week, but don't be so worried about it, look it as a camping trip, you can build tents with your friends, sing around a campfire, cook some food, then maybe... when you are sleeping with each other someone will want to make a move on the girls.... by slowly and forcibly taking--" Tsumugi's imagination was going rampant, so Rantaro smacked her in the head before she spouted more fan-fiction material.
Meanwhile, Tsumugi suffered in pain, Rantaro took her place and kept explaining, "Each task that is given to your team, will need to be done by before midnight on the day it was assigned,"
Suddenly, a student raised his hand.
"Yes? What is it, Maki?" Rantaro quickly spotted the student.
"What is the purpose of each task, and is there a punishment if the task is not finished by the end of the day?" Maki's question was on some people's minds, so they were glad it was addressed.
"Failure to complete the tasks will not be punished in any way, however, completing these tasks will award you points, the harder the task, the more points your team will get. At the end of the activity, the team with more points will be given a special reward for their effort and commitment." Rantaro was hoping to spark a sense of competition within his students.
"And I suppose you can't tell us what this prize is" Kokichi retorted Rantaro's explanation.
"I'm afraid so, but don't think about the prize, think about the experience!" Rantaro was way more animated today than any of the previous ones. His attitude was odd, to say the best.
"So we will now put you into groups and assign your islands, and for obvious reasons, the central island and island number one out of the game" Tsumugi reincorporated and added important facts to the game. The tutors wanted this to be a challenge to them, so assigning them the islands they have been living in for some days now, will be a huge advantage.
"The teams have been organized and created, by ourselves and your tutors, so we want to balance them out the best possible way," Rantaro explained, "So, without further ado, let me reveal the teams" Everyone was excited for this, randomness in who is going to be your partner always excites someone, although those with expectations about it, were more nervous than excited.
"Since island two has a very laidback environment, the team will only have four people in it and fewer resources are available on the island compared to the other two. The team is Himiko, Gonta, Angie, and Shuichi" Tsumugi announced and gave some details about the island.
Himiko's heart felt like it was exploding, she couldn't hide the smile on her face. A smile that Korekiyo quickly noticed, and behind that mask a slight curl on his lips was hidden, he felt happy for her classmate.
On the other hand, Shuichi was depressed about not being able to see his girlfriend for a whole week, it will be hard for him, but a question still roamed his head, what did she mean by anyone acting strange around him. He couldn't put his finger on it quite yet.
"Okay, let's keep it going! Island number three looks like a wasteland and has a few buildings on it, however, one of these can be crucial for this team, which is formed by Ryoma, Kaede, Tenko, Kokichi, and Kaito" Kaede and Kaito felt relieved that they were paired up, is always good to have a friendly face on your team. However, Kaito just as Shuichi felt depressed about Maki.
"Last but not least! Island number four, it has a really fun environment is an amusement park, however, how much resources and survival material will you be able to find in a park. The members of this team are Korekiyo, Keebo, Miu, Kirumi, and Maki." The last team was announced by Tsumugi.
The students felt comfortable around certain of their classmates, but not with some other, and for some obvious reasons.
"YES! We are going to a fucking park!! This is gonna be a breeze!!" Miu shouted to her content, definitely excited about her location. But this couldn't be said for anyone.
"Would you please shut up?" Maki glared knives at Miu as she was celebrating, which brought a sudden closure to her mouth. Maki couldn't stop thinking about Kaito, a whole week away from him, what would she do?
"EEEEK?!" Miu had never seen Maki's eyes glaring at her like that before. "What should I do? These last days, I've been so alone, I know my personality is not the best. Maybe this is finally my chance to approach someone. Anyone, just... one friend will do" Miu thought to herself as the teams gathered around.
"Well, everyone from now on is up to all of you! Everyone takes the bag with your island number on it" Rantaro exclaimed with joy in his eyes, a quite weird sight.
"Now! Go out there, survive, and have fun!" Tsumugi seconded his comrade.
"GOOD LUCK!" Both of them said in unison, as they saw the students run off in the distance.
"You sure were really hyped about this Ran-chan"
"Well, how couldn't I?" Rantaro responded as Tsumugi listened with a perplexed face. "Don't you remember? We met in this very same challenge, you idiot" Rantaro and Tsumugi smiled as their students got farther and farther away.
