Chapter 19: Practically Living Together
The next day, after breakfast, Maverick and Queshia told them the whole story of what happened.
They were cool with it, though she knew deep inside his parents' thoughts, they have doubts, but they agreed to let her stay for as long as she wants. As parents, they just could not believe that her dad would do such a thing to his daughter.
After breakfast, they started doing some schoolwork. But then she remembered that she haven't even texted her mother and sister on her whereabouts.
"Hey, I better text my mom and sister to let them know I'm okay..." Queshia said to Maverick.
"Sure hon, no worries, I'll be just here hanging out with them." Maverick replies.
"Well, I think that's the first time you called me by a pet name? I like it...hon" she said smiling like an idiot, not knowing that it was the endearment Maverick and his recent ex used.
Maverick wanted to change it knowing that she might take it the wrong way and would think that he was thinking about his ex when calling her that, but he doesn't have the heart to do so.
After explaining everything to her mom, she then told her sister that she might be staying for a few more days with Maverick.
"So, I guess we are practically living together now huh?" Queshia said to Maverick.
"Yeah, I guess so..." Maverick replies with contradicting thoughts - like liking and disliking the thought where she would know the real him.
A few months have passed by like a blur and that was when it hit Maverick, always being with Queshia at school, at home...everywhere. That he is like tied down to one woman and he was f*cking scared of that. So, as stupid as he could get, he cheated on Queshia. He had few flings from different schools he met at bars.
Queshia had a hunch that Maverick is hiding something. She even let him use her extra phone last week, since his phone got broken. She was watching TV with his parents when she heard the said phone dings with a text alert. She went to get the phone and was about to give it to Maverick upstairs, when it lit up and had another message. It broke her heart reading the notification that it was from a girl named Margaret, flirting and saying she had a nice time with him, hoping they could hang out again. She tried opening the ohone but to her surprise, since it is still her phone, it was locked and had a password already.
"Unbelievable..." she muttered as she sat back down slowly at the chair beside her. She just felt so betrayed and hurt, after sacrificing so much, and even being at the same roof as him, he still had the guts to cheat on her.
"Hey, you okay?" Maverick's dad asked Queshia.
"Yeah! I am...just a bit tired, though" she said smiling and pretending to be happy like nothing happened.
"Alright, you could take a rest upstairs you know..." Maverick's dad said before going back to the sofa to watch.
Queshia's head is still spinning with all the information she finally thought that made sense - his coldness, him always out with friends, him always on his phone...everything makes sense. She decided to go back home for a while, leaving some of her clothes and uniforms at Maverick's house.
"Dan? I just have to go home for awhile, my sister asked me to babysit her son for a few days since her husband is at his sister's this week." Queshia said to Maverick's dad.
"Oh, sure sweetie, you should ask Maverick to come with you... it's dangerous for a young lady going out alone."
"No! I mean... I'm fine. I can handle it. I would text you guys if I got home safely don't worry. I have to go. Bye!" she rushed out holding her phone and purse and walked to the bus station, feeling numb.
