Chapter 2: Mother

However, feeling the sun beat down on her, Xiaolu spared no more thoughts to revenge. Mother would rot if left here. Xiaolu recalls Yue's memories. Besides our bedchamber, our courtyard only has a small storage room, Mother used as a pantry.

I shall keep Mother in the bedchamber until her burial. Xiaolu frowns. The manor should be aware of Wei Luo's death, but no one came. No one cared.

She cares. Wait. Frowning, a memory of a woman playing with her, and gossiping with Mother arose. Auntie Sunny, rather Xiao Sunny as Mother called her. Mother's dowry maid, she was there in most of Nan Yue's memories. Not once did she ever mistreat this body.

Nan Yue viewed her almost the same as Mother.

Xiaolu closes her eyes, remembering her fate. She had been raped by Prince Nan Ji when he was drunk, then Auntie Sunny was yanked out of their courtyard weeping and screaming. Prince Nan Ji kept her by his side as his new toy. Knowing her Father, Nan Yue didn't hold hope for Auntie's life.

Xiaolu curled her lip in disgust. This body's father was an utter bastard. He enjoyed having a toy at his side at all times. Toys that perished alarmingly fast or were punished by being thrown to his guards. Auntie Sunny was barely 5'3 and couldn't be over 100 Ibs. Despite being in her mid-twenties, she was constantly mistaken for a young girl. Such a delicate girl, how could she survive Father's games.

Xiaolu shakes her head returning to her predicament. Mother must be moved. Suddenly, Xiaolu is gripped by anxiety. Did Lily come with me? Quickly, Xiaolu thinks of a deer slide attempting to call it out.

Xiaolu sways, a burning spreading from her hip. Sweat drips down her back, gasping, her lungs gripped by an iron fist. She was blinded by white torment.

Will I die again? Leaving Mother and Auntie Sunny's bodies to the mercy of others. Just as Xiaolu thinks to die again, the burning recedes leaving her soaked in sweat. Is Lily gone? Xiaolu lifts her skirt up, revealing a tattoo on her left hip.

Blue lilies covered her hip, Xiaolu smiles her tension draining away. "Still there?" Xiaolu tilts her head. Oh, is it? Xiaolu nips her thumb than rubs the blood on her tattoo.

The blood disappears and Xiaolu stood in a stone room filled with shelves. Xiaolu looks at her shimmering arm. Spirit form Just like when I first got Lily.

Am I really back at square one? Xiaolu sighs, thinking of all the restrictions. "Meow" Xiaolu jumps, staring down at her ankles. A cream colored kitten rubbed against her. "Misty?" Xiaolu asks, picking the kitten up.

Xiaolu touches Misty's neck, feeling her pulse. She's alive? Wow. Xiaolu smiles, hugging Misty close. "The first cat to travel through time and space, attached to a soul. If we were back home. That surely would be a world record" Xiaolu says.

Cuddling Misty, Xiaolu did a few quick experiments. Just like when she was fourteen, she could no longer bring her body inside, or access the Lily Space without offering blood. To pull things out, she needed to be touching her Lily tattoo.

Feeling her headache, Xiaolu frowns. Shit, I forgot. Xiaolu takes Mother's hand, pressing it against her tattoo drawing her body inside the space.

Before Xiaolu can do anything else, her spirit is tossed out, and she lands on her butt. At 14 years old, she'd only been able to access for a few minutes each day. It is the same now.

Xiaolu furrows her brow. I should have attended to Mother before experimenting. I didn't have a chance to wash her body or change her clothes.
