Chapter 2: “Nonsense, I’ll be there when you wed.”

Jungkook leaned up against a pillar in the main hallway, the area full of nobles in all sorts of attire, gossiping amongst themselves. He wished for a friend to talk to—it was quite lonely being all alone in the large castle.

Jungkook stood straight, preparing to head towards the kitchens when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Where are you running off to?"

He turned his head to find Jimin, looking expectedly at him. Jungkook smiled, moving toward a bow.

"The kitchens, your highness—I heard French court makes the best strawberry tart." He answered.

"Well, it is rather true," Jimin laughed, "but that's besides the point. You're attending the celebration tonight, correct?"

Jungkook pondered the thought. He rather enjoyed parties—not that there were very many where he was from. "Why I'd love to, but I haven't got anyone to celebrate with." He frowned.

Jimin smiled widely at this. "Well, my friend, that's just delightful!"

Jungkook tilted his head in confusion.

"You can celebrate with me!"

He was taken aback. A royal wanting to attend with him? "Oh, your highness-"

"Jimin."

"Right. Jimin. Well, I appreciate the gesture, but are you sure you'd want to be seen attending with me?" Jungkook questioned, fiddling with his fingers nervously.

The prince's voice turned soft. "Jeon Jungkook, you've truly caught my interest. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit weary at first, but I'd like to get to know you better." He smiled.

Jungkook looked up, a sweet smile forming upon his lips. "Thank you, your high-" He paused. "Thank you Jimin."

"It's nothing, I'm sure we'll become great friends!" Jimin beamed.

And such, Jungkook had made his first friend at court, who was none other than Prince Jimin himself.

Taehyung was lost in thought, pondering life and whatnot as a servant entered the room.

"Your highness, the celebration will begin shortly. Would you like me prepare your fitting?" He stated quietly.

The prince looked up in annoyance, cocking his head to the side. "What did you say?" He huffed.

"My d-deepest apologies, I asked whether or not you're ready to be f-fitted for the celebration." The servant stammered as he bowed.

"I don't feel like it." Taehyung hummed.

"Y-Your highness, I hate to be a bother b-but his m-majesty ordered-"

"-I said I don't feel like it."

The servant paused, and the prince rolled his eyes as he continued, "Leave me be Yoongi, unless you fancy the guillotine."

This particular servant—Min Yoongi—had served at French court for most of his life. The once smart and brave boy had grown timid and unsure as he endured the constant belittlement of his superiors.

"Y-Yes your highness." Yoongi faltered as he took his leave.

Taehyung shook his head as he, once again, became lost in thought.

"I have to marry Jennie."

"It's for France."

"Do it for France."

He groaned in frustration. The celebration for his fiancé was going to start and it'd be improper to arrive late. He trudged over to his wardrobe and decided to dress himself.

He pulled out tight black jeans, a black shirt frilled at the collar, and a long pattered coat. The prince dressed and looked towards the mirror, smiling to himself.

(He did, in fact, look—-for lack of better phrase —-hot as fuck.)

———————-

Jungkook emerged from one of the many rooms at court, dressed in highly expensive clothing. His new friend had insisted he stay in one of the finer rooms and even went so far as to lend him a coat for the celebration, as what Jungkook had with him—according to Jimin—was mediocre at best.

A guard escorted him towards the front ballroom, where he was met by a grand door being held open by two men. The inside of the ballroom didn't disappoint. The area was full of men and women dressed in fancy attire, dancing and chatting amongst themselves. Jungkook's ears were filled with western violins as he slowly entered the warmly lit celebration. To his far right were the two thrones where the king and queen sat, looking disinterested.

Jungkook took a seat as he waited patiently for the arrival of his friend. He payed no mind to the impossibly bored man sitting beside him.

"Well you look awfully alone." a monotonous voice stated.

He didn't make an effort to turn his head, and continued looking forward as he sheepishly replied. "Yes, well, I'm waiting for a friend."

There was a pause, before the deep voice started again.

"What, no bow?"

"Pardon?"

"You didn't bow."

"Well considering you-" Jungkook began as he finally turned his head, being met by a pair of intimidating dark eyes.

Said eyes were accompanied with the unmistakable raven black hair of Prince Taehyung. Up close, his features were even more ethereal. His defined brows furrowed as he looked expectedly upon the younger.

"Are you going to continue staring because it's a bit-"

"-my deepest apologies your highness, I hadn't noticed." Jungkook shyly apologized as he finally bowed.

Taehyung smirked at the boy. "That'd be a first."

Just then, a trumpet sounded as a guard began his announcement. "His highness, Park Jimin!"

Eyes turned to the entrance as the prince stuck a pose in the grand doorway, then proceeding to strut towards the two as the music began once more.

"I asked them to do that." He giggled.

Taehyung just rolled his eyes at the immaturity of his younger brother, while Jungkook laughed.

"You're rather late." He smiled.

"Fashionably, mind you." Jimin replied happily. "And I see you two have met."

"Hardly, I don't even know his name." Taehyung scoffed, contradicting his tone by glancing towards the youngest boy.

Jungkook smiled at this. "Jeon Jungkook, your highness."

"He's here as a spice trader." Jimin chimed in, looking smugly at the youngest who only turned red.

"He looks awfully young to be a trader." Taehyung stated, tilting his head in confusion.

"I do, don't I? Well enough about me, let's do something fun! This is a celebration, isn't it?" Jungkook said as he stood up, gesturing to his friend and newfound acquaintance. "I want to dance!"

"I am not dancing." Taehyung stated monotonously, as he went to grab a drink. Jimin and Jungkook frowned.

"You go on ahead, I'll watch." Jimin smiled, pointing the younger towards the center where a few people were swaying in groups.

"Alone?" Jungkook huffed.

Meanwhile, Taehyung whispered something to the musicians as an upbeat song began to play, replacing the boring violins.

(If you want to listen, Twin Forks - Back to You)

Jimin lightly pushed Jungkook towards the center of the room. "Go on!" He smiled.

Upon hearing the music, the younger's attitude was quickly livened. He glanced towards the prince with a smile before making his way towards the center as he got a feel for the music. Interested bystanders smiled as they watched the boy begin to dance. Three girls—whom he recognized as the ladies in waiting—suddenly made their way towards Jungkook, joining in as they all giggled. Soon enough, the floor was filled with people beaming as they danced as if they were kids.

"This is... new." the king stated, baffled.

"It certainly is." the queen replied.

"I love it!" Hoseok beamed, clapping.

Taehyung leaned against the wall as he looked upon the boy in the center, who was surrounded by people with a child-like smile on his face.

Their eyes met, as Jungkook slowly stopped his movements—the smile never leaving his face. The prince stared, feeling something in his chest he hadn't before. Jungkook tilted his head, but his eyes never left Taehyung's.

Jimin watched as the two gazed upon each other, and his smile was bittersweet. The music came to an end, and the crowd applauded. The gaze was broken as Jungkook was dragged away by the ladies in waiting, presumably to get to know the young boy. Jimin approached his brother.

"What was that~?" He teased.

"What was what?" Taehyung replied nonchalantly.

"That look."

"I had no such look." He scoffed.

"Nonsense. I'll be there when you wed."

Taehyung frantically hushed him. "I hardly know the kid!"

His brother only giggled, leaving the prince as he went to chat with the nobility.

Taehyung was confused but decided to shake it off as it was nothing. He had duties to adhere to, and something as simple as a boy he'd just met wasn't going to distract him from that.

However, as much as he tried, he couldn't rid his mind of the carefree brunette.
