Chapter 20: An Old Military Bunker
Adam and his team have been traveling for the last two weeks.
Their progress is not that fast. They've been stopping often to check some stores or some shops to check for anything useful.
On the third day, one of Adam's drones saw an old dilapidated convenience store. It got his attention and decided to take a quick look.
He wasn't expecting to find anything in the first place but he was still hopeful. His suspicion was confirmed when he entered and saw that everything in it was already looted.
The incident unintentionally got him down. Half of the food that he got from the slavers was left in the house. When he left to explore the zoo, he left it there for Eve and for James's family if they ran out of the food he initially gave them.
However, this also gave him another goal to pursue.
Since he arrived to this world, he didn't really have any major plans.
His biggest priority is to stay alive. Now, with the help from all of his new toys and capabilities, he is pretty safe.
But, as long as he has no way to produce new recovery potions, he needs to conserve them and find some other ways to acquire some food.
Since then he updated the mission parameters for the A.I. team to search for anything that can be edible.
With the updated mission, the A.I. was able to locate five locations where food was still stored. Four of the location contains two or three cans of preserved food.
On the last location, the drone found a trace of preserved food inside a container truck.
The problem is that, the truck is thirty feet below water. It's under a river below a collapsed bridge.
Wasteland looters or wondering people would never know that it's there. Even if they know it's there, there is now way for me to get to it, let alone take it. Fortunately, Adam can detect it. With the help of his toys, he definitely has the means to take it.
He was able to loot almost two tons worth of canned food. A few hundred bottles of cola and a few sacks of coffee beans.
It was a mother lode of food.
That was 4 days ago. Adam has travelled 50 miles since then.
They've been following a paved road due north. It was once a great highway, but it's just in rubbles now.
Suddenly a new notification from the A.I. informed him that they have discovered something. When Adam saw the video feed coming from the scout drone, he saw what appears to be a small military compound surrounded by a ten foot wall with barb wires on top.
A manned guard tower stood on each of the four corners of the compound covering the base.
The surveillance drone above detected that there are a lot of armed people inside the compound.
In the middle of the base there's concrete jutting out of the ground which looks like the entrance to an old military underground bunker.
The entrance is flanked by five feet thick concrete walls. The metal circular gate is half opened. It appears to have been blown open by an explosive charge.
Whoever did it definitely knows what they're doing.
He immediately changed direction and headed towards the site.
He and his team hid inside an abandoned shopping mall. It's roughly five hundred meters from the compound.
He pulled up the map and studied the layout of the camp. Aside from the four guard towers, there are also two make shift sand bag strongpoints right outside the bunker gate. They are both armed with a 50 cal. Heavy machineguns.
He can only see one way in or out of the camp. There's a gate on the south wall and it's protected by another set of 50 cal. heavy machineguns with sandbag for protection.
There's a two floor structure on the northern wall that looks like a barracks. A second smaller structure on the eastern wall looking like their command building.
The scouts counted a hundred and fifty military personnel inside the compound and a few vehicles with roof mounted machineguns.
He set the A.I. with a drone to discretely infiltrate the compound and gather some information.
It went to the command building first since it's the most likely location for gathering info. It found out that this compound is an outpost base of one of the mercenary group in the north called the Hounds.
From what he learned, this mercenary group is connected with the Red Skull Slavers, the slaver usually hires the Hound mercenary group for convoy protection for their slave trade.
From the looks of their vehicles, it seems like the SUV that he took from the slavers before belongs to them, he can see similar markings on the sides.
It's also very likely that these guys were hired to track down and locate that slaver group he killed.
He decided to eliminate this group to remove the threat in this area.
Looking at the area outside, he checked the environment to find any advantage points. Six hundred meters to the east of the compound, there's an old building there that looks like a parking lot back when the world is still normal.
He sent then reassigns the A.I. with one of the spiders and asked it to see if it can climb on top.
During their trip home, he found out that those things if given the right building can actually clamp on the side of tall structures using their six spider feet.
He plans to use that advantage now to gain the upper ground. With one of those spider tanks on top he cans the rain down some artillery inside the camp.
20 minutes later he was satisfied when the spider tank confirmed its location.
He confirmed it on the map then planted his sniper sentry on the roof of the mall he was hiding as added firepower.

He started by sending two spider tanks and four attack drones right outside the gate. Their mission is to block the gate and stop anyone from leaving.
