Chapter 1: One Step at a Time

She walked for miles, for too long. She threw her half-lit cigarette on the ground. She wandered to the side of the road and sat down. She looked up at the stars and made a wish. "Let me dream tonight," she whispered into the night sky. She fell into such a deep sleep that she never woke up again.
