Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Into the wall

The surprises of the day were yet not over perhaps. Upon returning, Jason found nobody at home. It was 19:59. Though, at first he took it as just the right time to make up some lines when he should suddenly pop before his mom and dad after six months. Lines probably explain "excuses" in better words because; nobody really knew where he had disappeared into. He himself didn't have any idea. "I had gone for a project to Amazon with my team but there were no networks, so we couldn't connect. Moreover, we got stuck there." this could have made a little sense if he were a zoology student or some biologist. The fact that his subject was 'Astronomy' had only dawned at him few minutes earlier. So he replaced 'Amazon' with 'Arctic'. He was certainly not a seasoned liar, not at least before his dad- Mr. Matthew Grills, a retired army man who has now taken to fishing for leisure. He spends most of the time in the charlotte harbor in search of cobia. He is a very good father but an idealist too. Mrs. Clara Grills on the contrary, has a rather soft sketch who always takes her son's side whenever there is a war between the two. So it is natural for Jason to go for the 'you know mom!' tool. Finally he made it, "I had gone for a project to the Arctic with my team but there were no networks, so we couldn't connect. Moreover, you know mom, we got bogged down there." After a hard practice of speaking the lines with efficacy, he noticed that it was already 22:04. He was actually desperate to see his mom and dad badly. Of course he was. But he could only wait. One more hour had passed but no signs of even a single person at the door. He kept staring at the door but nothing happened. Now his instincts had started warning him of some underlying threat. So, He went to make an enquiry to Mrs. Anderson, their neighbor. She was the best option at the moment as he knew how much interest she had in others' affairs.

On seeing Jason, she almost fainted but Jason helped her. It was good that she didn't fall lest he'd require worrying of her corpulent bulk. "Holy virgin! Are you…" "Jason- I am Jason, did you forget me auntie?" "but everyone supposed you were dead!" "Ah! No I am most alive certainly. I just went somewhere for a while." And Jason smiled. Suddenly he remembered his question, "Ehm, Mrs. Anderson, do you know where my parents are- Did they inform you somehow? Where is dad? And mom?" "your mom?" Mrs. Anderson shriveled for a moment. Her brows shrank, "you took too much time coming back Jason…you took one year coming back" Jason was flummoxed. "one year? I thought it as only six months! I wasn't here for a year?", he said to himself. "And? Where is my mom?" Mrs. Anderson cleared her throat once and said, "your mother- she- they took her, her condition was becoming worse. So they took her." "took? Who took her- where? "(swallows) big spring- She is in big spring state hospital." Jason is shriveled for a second, "big spring? Isn't it a psychiatric hospital? Why is she there? My mom is fine isn't she?" "Actually after you and your father disappeared, she went into a trauma. We thought both of you – died- because the police couldn't find your traces, so we all assumed you...passed away. But she couldn't take it, she said that you both disappeared into the wall! All the time she kept repeating the same. In fact she even stopped eating and when the police enquired her, she answered them the same - they disappeared into the wall" Jason was balled over-"But, I was alive¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬--into the wall?-dad too? He disappeared too?" before understanding or even looking back at the miserable Mrs. Anderson, he quickly rushed towards the big state. With the same speed, he brought her back home too after some formalities. Clara has been traumatic since the "into the wall!" incident. At first, she didn't even recognize Jason and it was obvious in her part to act such. But few minutes of consoling and solacing finally worked and she came back to normal. She was happier than a reader could imagine. After some moments of comeback and bringback, Jason finally asked, "Mom, please keep calm and try to remember, what did exactly happen that day? I need to know" Ironically, it was difficult for Clara to say it to Jason what she had been repeating for the past one year. She inhaled and began "it was an afternoon of January. I had settled it all for a cozy lunch. I was calling you but you didn't answer. So your dad went to call you. I followed when he didn't return. I saw it very clearly, that wall had become really fluid to touch. And you both were kind of fighting for some kind of amulet thing. Next, you pushed Mat and went into that wall. Mat tried to stop you but as if you were kinda hypnotized, you didn't hear anything. He just followed you and both of you faded. The wall had suddenly hardened. I kept waiting when it should soften again but it never happened again. I was only telling them truth Jason, but they all sent me to the Big spring." Clara was obviously tired of it all. So Jason embraced his mom, and soothed her. It was hard to distract her from, "your dad didn't return with you?" that Jason tried to handle by saying, "he is in touch with me mom, he will come soon." But the fact is he wanted to know it too where his dad must be. Clara finally slept at and Jason sat by her all time.
