Chapter 4: Prince Ta Hwan Illness
Eunuch Jang is the first one to react. His face turned from shock to fear and now serious.
"Please do tell Doctor Kim, why did you say that the Crown Prince is in danger?". Eunuch Jang knows that Min Ji cares for the Prince and therefore what she said is not a joke but an actual diagnosis of a renowned doctor that she is.
"The Prince is showing symptoms of internal bleeding. His pulse is too slow and I think something has happened to one of his internal organs. Unfortunately, I can't identify which one of his organs just by checking his pulse or his physical outlook now." Kim Min Ji explained her diagnosis. She is disappointed as well because she can't pinpoint exactly what's wrong with the Prince's body. Her diagnosis is very limited to how far she can examine him.
To further examine the Prince, she asks him, "Your Highness, can you please tell me since when did you start not feeling well? Was there something significant that happened to you? Perhaps during training?"
Ta Hwan is sweating a lot but hearing Min Ji's voice somewhat alleviates his pain. With all his remaining strength, he open his eyes and looks at Min Ji adoringly.
" Kim Min Ji..." he said weakly
Min Ji kneeled beside Ta Hwan's bed so she can have a closer look at his face and hold his hand.
"Yes, your highness... I am here. please tell me what happened and where do you feel pain my prince.." Min Ji's voice became tender and worried not only as a doctor but because the prince has a special place in her heart.
"I went hunting yesterday with the my father... the Emperor... When I..when I came back in the palace, my stomach suddenly aches so much it is..it is unbe-- unbearable." Ta Hean tried his best to explain what happened.
"Your Highness, did you have a feast before the hunting?" Min Ji asked an unusual question out of the blue. Usually, the feast comes after the hunting because the food will be whatever animals they caught from hunting. However, this time, something is playing in her mind.
"Y-yes...the Emperor has special guests. The King of Goryeo came with his...his son. The Emperor is showing off his wealth so we had a feast even before the hunting..." Ta Hwan released a sharp breath as if talking is like running a marathon for him.
Min Ji was shocked to learned that her Uncle King from Goryeo is here in Yuan. They have not met for ten years. But she stopped her thoughts to go elsewhere. The Prince's situation right now is urgent and her only priority.
"Your Highness, please forgive me but I need to inspect you again." Determination is written all over her face. It's as if lightbulb is turned on in her mind after listening to the Prince.
Min Ji abruptly stood up and press Ta Hwan's stomach with both of her hand. She used enough force and put pressure in Ta Hwan's right lower side of his stomach. When she did, Ta Hwan screams due to excruciating pain. When everyone else are afraid after seeing the Prince screamed in pain, Min Ji eyes shine bright as she concluded her official diagnosis.
"I know what the Prince illness now", she said with finality.
"The Prince appendix has bursted. This usually happens if someone who ate a lot, do an extensive exercise or activities right after. Our food is not easily digested if we do that and our appendix suffers."
"I am sorry Doctor Kim but we can't understand you." Eunuch Jang said looking so puzzled.
"Well ahm sorry about that, I forgot to explain it simple. I have read from a foreign book in medicine that we have this thing called appendix placed here in the right lower side of our stomach." Min Ji motioned her hand and placed it on her stomach to demonstrate. "Basically it does play any important role in our body but it can be troublesome when not taken care of, like what is happening now." She looks at Ta Hwan again obviously worried.
"Alright Doctor Kim. We now understand. How are we going to cure the Prince. We need to take away his pain as soon as possible!"
Min Ji shot Eunuch Jang a hesitant look but she told him the procedure she needed to do to the Prince body.
"I need to cut open the Prince's body and remove his appendix."
Everyone gasped.
