Chapter 4: Choices

To Interfere, or not to Interfere? That was the question.

The Galactic Empire was scrambled and hastily coming together all across the known galaxy. For this time he briefly understood where they were, who they were be commanded by, and where they were going to go.

He was half in the right mind to completely crush the remaining Imperial forces which were hidden in various nebulae across the galaxy. There were also other remnants which refused to follow Gallius Rax.

He knew he could do it, as long as he was able to jam their communications and leave their so called Fleet Admiral in the dark. Either that, or he could simply turn around and destroy the Fleet Admiral and assume command of the rest of the Remnants after removing Sloane from power. Yet at the same time, he felt as if this wouldn't work out in his favor. Should he grow too quickly, the New Republic which was just coming out of the woodworks, would see him as a threat. That was the last thing he needed, another war so soon.

Tobias generally knew of his plans to purge the roots of his new order, but at the same time, he knew that Rax would perish at the Battle of Jakku at the hands of Rae Sloane in three months.

Bey, Organa and Calrissian had left the Guardian an hour after Iden and Del decided to join the Imperium instead of the Alliance. On the other hand, The Queen of Naboo decided to stay on board a bit longer.

She had just been engaged to an Imperial Grand Moff. Her entire life had changed not once, but two, in one day. While she knew the planet of Naboo would align with the New Republic, she only had three months left until her term was up and the year was over.

By now her head of Naboo Royal Security Forces, Korro, would have made his way onto the super star destroyer and found himself standing in the doorway of the office he had been escorted to. The two officers who had been escorted him to the office, bowed their heads in courtesy and quickly absconded with themselves, quick to be unseen.

"Captain Korro," Queen Sosha Soruna addressed his arrival.

"Your Highness," He asked as she looked at the Naboo Monarch with a look of confusion written all over his face. A brow raised, his lips pursed. She was sitting beside the Grand Moff of an Imperial Warship. "Why are you still here?"

She didn't seem like she was being forced to stay, nor did it seem like she was being held hostage. She had this blank smile across her face as if she was in deep thought.

She let out a sigh seeing him trying to read what was going on, Sosha would smile at him. "Grand Moff Rune has offered protection of the Naboo System for three months against Imperial Invasions." She said in a confidant and stern tone, which many of Queens were known for using during their Reign. "In return for my hand."

Sitting across from the two of them however were two individuals who had recently helped the ground forces against Imperial stragglers who attempted to overthrow the capital of Theed. Iden and Del turned in the office chairs and gazed over at Korro who had addressed the Queen. However they quickly dismissed his presence and turned to look forward towards the Moff.

The Captain looked towards the Moff who was giving the man a once over before turning his attention towards the Imperial Agents in front of him. "My Queen, you ca..." He was cut off by her raising her hand, a frown suddenly adorning her face at his opposition.

Security Heads are always protective of their Queens. Though Korro could admire the fact that she would 'sacrifice' herself to a Moff to protect her people, even after her term was going to end in three months. Though seeing as the Imperial Military Governor wished to protect Naboo for the sake of the Queen, he was rather curious in the man's interest in the teen Monarch.

Without much of a warning, a hologram of the Moff's Adjacent appeared on the desk. "Sir, we're receiving another transmission from the Super Star Destroyer 'Ravager' under the command of Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax. Would you like me to keep blocking his hails?"

Tobias had met this man once since his service to the Empire began, and his impression of the man wasn't good nor bad. Yet he knew the man's ambitions and what he planned on doing.

Letting out a slightly aggravated growl, "We'll answer it this time." He narrowed the projectors view so that only he would be seen. This would allow the others to be unseen and anonymous.

"Grand Moff Tobias Rune," Gallius Rax said in a low toned voice, his eyes narrowed on the man before him. "The loyalty Officers on board flotilla has stopped reporting into Naval Intelligence three weeks ago, I'm assuming they all died during the Battle of Endor?" He scoffed clearly mocking the man who had spaced officers which didn't agree with him.

After a brief pause, Rax learned of Rune's location since he accepted the transmission. He stared at the data which was sitting in front of him. "So that's what happened to the Torment," He took in a deep inhale and let out a wide exhale through his nose. "You want a Civil War?" Snickering, he looked up towards the man and tilted his head slightly to the side.

"Sheev Palpatine, Emperor Palpatine. Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith has failed the Empire and corrupted its very foundations. His Empire won't survive, it'll divide and collapse as it burns itself to cinders." Tobias retorted with a monotone and sinister voice. Reaching his hand forward towards the projector as he pressed his elbow to the desk, everyone present furrowed their brow.

Rax's eyes grew wide, he felt himself unable to breath. A pressure was wrapped around his throat. "W-what? You can use the force?" He coughed out as he slammed his fist down on a hard metal surface.

"Darth Sidious and Darth Vader were not the only ones left who knew the way of the Force, Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax." He said over the projection, his eyes as cold and dark as bundles of coal. His tone of voice was surely chilling, threatening to rip the life away from the Admiral. Then he stopped, allowed Gallius to fall to his knees gasping for breath.

Rather than deterred by his threats, Gallius smiled widely, greedily. Had he found himself a darkside warrior to be his enforcer? No, he found an enemy that wasn't a Jedi, but an Imperial. He was fit in the force, fit in discipline and professionalism. His mundane outward appearance was completely outmatched by his brutality towards his enemies.

Gallius wanted the man on his side, with a Force User of this magnitude, it was likely he'd be able to build a New Order in the Unknown Regions. "Just who are you Tobias Rune?" Gallius was a man intrigued and taken in by the Dark Side of the force, even though he himself wasn't force sensitive.

"Just a man with a really big stick," Tobias stated in return as the other silently looked on. "Now Operator, what's the number for the local authorities?" This was an outright threat, turned into a seemingly harmless joke to those who didn't understand.

Leia and Lando weren't present, so obviously no one else in the room would understand.

The look on Rax's face was priceless. Rax paled and his face grew long, a panicked complexion appearing on his person. "What?" Rax had been using the codename 'The Operator' in order to send classified information about Imperial Forces across the Galaxy to the New Republic. This was his way of thinning the herd.

Quickly regaining his composure, Rax would then cup his hand around his chin as if trying to think. 'This man was well informed,' he could only assume. "Are you going to get involved?"

Tobias tilted his head to the side slightly, "No, I'm not planning on getting involved in thinning out the herd." He clicked his teeth together as he leaned back slightly, thinking to himself. "However for me to keep this answer on this matter, I'd like you to send me the HoloNet codes for each of the Star Destroyers you have under your command."

Rax had a blank expression on his face as he was openly threatened with a simple request, which wasn't big, but he wondered what exactly he was going at with this. "Why, Grand Moff, would you want those?" Even though he was threatened, he was curious.

"Oh, no reason. If you survive, you'll find out." It was a blatant lie, he knew that Rax was going to die at the hands of Sloane as long as Sloane and the other members of the Rebel Alliance and New Republic continued on their current paths.

Squinting slightly, he slowly nodded reluctantly and sent him the information he was asking for. This was something that Tobias could use to his advantage as he knew the Imperial Star Destroyers used the HoloNet to keep their vessels operations up to date, especially their operating systems and navigation charts.

He could use these to automatically assume command of all the remaining Star Destroyers remotely with a push of a button through the use of a viral update. He planned on doing this during the Battle of Jakku to increase his might. He could rather easily, vent the atmosphere on all of them as well, using this virus to kill all of those onboard without separate life support equipment.

The power he held over technology, was rather scary.
