Chapter 4: Farmer from Another World

Waking up from his sleep

"Today is finally the day we get to move in" Vale exclaimed

They enjoyed living with the village chief, but they also felt bad about using their house for so long.

[When we settle in our house we will have to send Alfonse some of the crops we plant.]

After taking one more look at the room they stayed in for the last three days, Vale decided that it was time to depart.

Emilia was in the other room helping Florance do the dishes from last night, it seems like they're getting along pretty well. Even though Emilia was inexperienced at first, the last few days she has really gotten better with housework, cooking, and cleaning. It seems like she was serious about wanting to become a good wife.

[Yep, she still wants to marry me. It's shocking to even to me who has stayed with her the last couple of days.] Vale grinned from ear to ear.

Waving at Alfonse and his family, Vale and Emilia finally departed from their house.

Now that they had been in the town for a few more days they have seen more of it. It's a small town but all of the buildings are in pristine condition, small fences with various types of plants and flowers spread through the yards. People seem to grow some of their own herbs in their yards either to sell or for their own use.

While walking for a while they got closer and closer to the outskirts of town, the buildings become more scarce and you really get a sense of nature. In a wide open space, they see a large house that's in fairly good condition but it's seen its better days, the field that Vale plans on using for the farm, a worn down shed next to the field, and the forest that stretches as far as the eye can see.

They haven't tried adventuring back into the forest since the boar attack, but even then they only explored a small part of the immense forest.

Arriving at their house Vale and Emilia both let out a small breathe that they had both been holding.

"Finally, we have a home." Vale couldn't help but sigh in relief.

"Yes, this is our home." Emilia smiled

Walking inside they see the living room, it's a bit empty but it has two chairs, a couch, and a table to put things on. Walking past that, they enter into the kitchen. It's all been cleaned thanks to Emilia coming here when she had time. But the thing that stood out the most was the runes used for cooking and cleaning.

Emilia told Vale about the types of magic in the world and it seems like people use magic for all sorts of purposes. But not everyone has the ability to use magic so runes were created, and they are fairly common they let people use beginner magic for basic things, such as cooking, cleaning, and bathing.

Other than the kitchen there are 3 bedrooms and a rather large bath. They had already started living in the same room together in the village chiefs house. So they plan on making the largest room their bedroom, as for the other two rooms one will be used as a study, and the other will be used as storage until they need it.

Even though Vale and Emilia had stayed in the same room, they haven't consummated their marriage yet. In this world, it's common to wait until after marriage before snu-snu.

They need to settle into their house before they can hold the reception, the village chief has even started making preparations for the wedding. But he thought it would be a good idea for Vale and Emilia to give out the invitations to town members themselves.

After checking through the house to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be Vale determines that it's time to start on his quest to make the worlds best farm.

"I'll be off to check on the land, I want to see what I can do today." Vale called out while closing the front door.

"take care." Emilia stuck her head out from the kitchen.

While walking out to field Vale heads to the worn down shed. Just from the looks alone, you would think that a gust of wind would blow it over. Holes in the walls, the door is barely hanging on the hinges.

[This must've been where they stored all of the work tools at. Looks like this will need more work than I thought.]

Entering the shed and looking around. Vale saw a few barrels that seemed to have some equipment in them, After approaching the barrels and looking at the equipment Vale determined that they wouldn't be of any use.

Sighing, Vale was about to leave the shed when he saw a glint of light. Approaching it, he found a hoe. It was the only item that wasn't rusted, rather it was in flawless condition.

Picking it up, Vale felt that it just felt right in his hands.

[Who would leave such a good tool in such a run down shed?]

While questioning it Vale never put the hoe back down, instead, he continued to the field.

[Today I just wanna get the feel for the land, It so nostalgic being in the fields again.]

As Vale was staring at the field he was overcome with a sudden feeling of comfort it felt as if something was urging him to plow the field. Pulling out the hoe from earlier he felt a surge of unknown energy enter his body and he began plowing the field.

*huff*

*huff*

Catching his breath, Vale sat down on the edge of the field gazing back at his work.

"Eh isn't this different than before?"

Looking out over the field Vale was filled with a sense of accomplishment, but also a bit of confusion.

[I wasn't able to to do this before right?]

Before Vale's eyes, the half-completed field that he had just plowed. But he knew that he was out of shape. But even when he was working on the farm every day he was never this fast.

Standing up to stretch Vale was surprised again, he wasn't sore at all. Feeling like he could go long enough to finish the rest of the field.

[This is definitely not normal. Wait, is this my power? Was I always meant to be a farmer? Maybe God didn't forsake me!]

Just as Vale was about to experiment more with his power, he saw a figure coming towards him from the distance. It was Emilia in a white dress that came down just above her knees, she was carrying a picnic basket and a wool blanket.

"I thought you might need something to eat after working on the field for so long. How is it coming along?"

After staring blankly for a few seconds Vale finally remembered her question.

"U- Um It's going well, actually I've never felt better. It's almost like my body was made for farming."

While smiling Emilia started spreading out the blanket for them to sit on. Vale quickly rushed up to her to help her with the basket.

"I'm still inexperienced so all I could make were some sandwiches but hopefully they are to your liking."

The blush on Emilia's face was driving Vale mad, all he could do was quickly stuff his mouth with the small sandwiches and look away from her beautiful face.

"They're delicious, thank you."

While Vale was devouring the sandwiches, Emilia went to check the fields to see how far Vale had gotten.

Bending down she first checked the soil and a strange expression formed on her face.

"How did you plow and plant so much land already? Don't wear yourself out we have plenty of time."

Pausing from his meal Vale stood up and walked to the soil Emilia was standing over.

"I haven't planted anything yet though."

Strangely enough, when they looked out over the farm they could already see some of the crops sprouting.
