Chapter 4: Chapter 4

"Welcome to the dark side."

I was greeted by Sam, who's wearing an all black cape and a Darth Vader mask. I recognized him by his voice.

Sam is in my drama club.

I joined a drama club. Which is very unlikely of me. Considering how much of a shy person I am.

I figured it could be good for my college resume.

Besides, I've met a lot of cool people from there, including Sam.

Sam is one of those kids at school who you think is weird at first, but once you get to know them, they're actually pretty cool.

He was in the drama club way before I joined in.

And he was the first person who talked to me and introduced me to everyone in the club.

"This is Charlie, our newbie. Please be gentle with him. We can't crush him just yet." were his exact words.

I appreciate people who could instantly make you comfortable in the most uncomfortable situations.

It's October 31st, and everyone's in their costumes because tomorrow is Halloween.

I didn't want to overdress and go for anything too crazy, so instead I dressed up as Norman Bates from that 1960s film "Psycho". I'm wearing a black sweater with a white button-down shirt inside with the collar popped up. I don't think anyone would recognize who I'm trying to dress up like. I look pretty normal, but it's not what I usually wear.

"Looking sharp grandpa. Are you here to pick up your grandchildren?" Of course, Alex always comes up with ways to insult me and he went with the most obvious one. Of course I'm dressed like an old person. I'm portraying a character from the 1960s!

He's dressed up as Rodrick from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He's wearing a black printed shirt, black pants, and an army green jacket. His hair is tousled and messy and he's wearing eyeliner and a bunch of black bracelets. Jesus christ.

It's a good look for him, considering how much of a punk he is.

I decide to ignore him and continue to walk down the hallway before he gets on my nerves.

"What are you deaf now? Forgot your hearing aid?"

And that's when I lost it. I can't just let him be an asshole to me first thing in the morning. For all I know that's probably in his to-do-list for today.

"What's with all that make-up on your face? Are you trying to cover up all the bruises you got the other day?" I snapped.

Alex's lips turned into a fine line. His mood suddenly shifted into something dangerous.

"What do you know shit-stain?" His tone was firm.

"You probably should've added some concealer on to cover up your eye bags from all that crying."

And that's when I realized that I've gone too far. I was getting too personal. I couldn't help myself. I instantly regretted everything I said.

And before I knew it, he's already onto me. He pushed me to the locker with so much force, everyone's looking now

"You better learn how to keep your mouth shut Sinclair. Or I'll stitch it up for you."

I didn't say it anything back. But I know I must've looked very angry. My ears were burning up, and my lips were shaking from anger.

I grabbed him by his hair from the back and pulled his head away from me.

And the next thing I saw was his fist on my face.

Blood was dripping down my face.

It was about time that the faculty realized what was going on. They broke us apart and called us to the office.

Damn it, not today.

I saw Jeremy in the crowd looking clueless.

He gave me a concerned look.

He probably wasn't here when all that happened.

We got sent into the principal's office.

Somehow, I acquired some tissues and now I'm trying to keep my nose from bleeding.

"Do you guys know what time it is? First period hasn't even started yet and you two already managed to make a scene." Mr. Jenkins didn't look so pleased.

Both of us were quiet.

"So no one's gonna talk? I think you'll talk more when you two start spending more time with each other on your detention every Mondays and Wednesdays in the theater. Does that sound good?"

I feel bad for Mr Jenkins for dealing with this so early in the morning.

Alex looks up to the ceiling looking annoyed, like he's keeping himself from groaning.

"Yes, that's right. 2 hours of detention on Mondays and Wednesdays after school for 2 weeks.

Now, I can't just tolerate this kind of behavior especially that both of you are seniors. Is that how you want to set yourselves as an example to the new students? Do you want them to think that it's okay to push each other around and punch each other's faces?"

Evidently, I'm the only one with a bleeding nose here.

"No sir." We say in unison.

"Okay. Charlie, go to the clinic. And as for you Mr. Caspian, make sure you don't miss 2nd period." Mr. Jenkins ordered.

We left his office and went to different ways.

I was in an urgent need of ice.

The blood on my face adds up to the Norman Bates look.

Sam was right about one thing this morning.

I have entered the dark side.
