Chapter 6: Little Prodigy

In one of the currently empty classrooms, Sarutobi, Jun and a pair of instructors, who the young Uzumaki had no recollection of whatsoever, gathered to begin the affinity test requested by the Hokage for Jun.

The Third Hokage brought his hands together behind his back as he spoke, "In all honesty, I could do this affinity assessment myself, but there must be more than one witness, as per the Academy's guidelines. The test is very simple, but also a little tricky to understand. First, can you sense your chakra, Jun?"

Jun nodded slightly, "Yes, I can feel it. In fact, I can see it, and use it."

This statement raised Sarutobi's eyebrow curiously, "Really, now? In that case, what can you see when you look at my chakra?" The old Hokage held up a hand and focused his chakra into his palm, forming a ball that struggled to maintain its form.

The redheaded boy inspected the orb closely for a minute or so before saying, "Seven colors... the red of Fire, the blue of Water, the green of Wind, the yellow of Lightning, the brown of Earth, the black of Yin and the white of Yang." He took a step back, and continued, "Hokage-sama is capable of using all 5 elements and both Yin and Yang."

The instructors, as well as Sarutobi himself, were startled by the accuracy of the boy's eyes. While Sarutobi knew this himself, the instructors were only Chunin, and while they were capable of seeing chakra as well, their accuracy with sensing the natures was very lacking. In fact, such accuracy was only found from those with dojustu or those of Kage rank.

"It's no wonder your elders wanted you to start your training immediately. You're naturally sensitive to chakra, far more than anyone your age that I've ever met, or even heard of." This made Sarutobi laugh with amused excitement, his eyes sparkling with a look of a teacher of a great student. "Just this alone would already make you a genius, but you also say you can use it. Can you prove it?"

The young boy instinctively nodded, then stopped afterward and shook his head, "I can prove it, but I don't know any jutsus. But, I have a feeling that if I see a jutsu performed in front of me, I'll be able to use it."

"Curious... I'd like to see that, Jun. Let's use this one then and see what you can do." The Third Hokage casually made six hand signs before stating a jutsu name, "Earth Release: Fist Rock Jutsu." With the sound of rolling pebbles, solid rock formed on Sarutobi's left forearm and hand, which quickly took the form of an earthen gauntlet. "This is a jutsu mostly used by Iwagakure ninjas, and the current Tsuchikage, Onoki. It's easy to cast, so you should-..."

Sarutobi was cut off as he heard, and saw, Jun copy the hand signs and speak the technique. Jun's left forearm also took the form of an earthen gauntlet, but compared to Sarutobi's it was much smaller. It was closer to the size of a real gauntlet, rather than the enormous fist of the original technique. To the Third Hokage, this meant that Jun had seen the technique once and, not only was capable of instant mastery, he even managed to alter it on the first try. Holding his hand up, Jun stared at his jutsu-clad arm with a smile, "Cool."

The Third Hokage released his jutsu, coughing to clear his throat, "I thought you were just making up that feeling of yours, but you actually did it. A prodigy in the making. Let's try another jutsu then," Sarutobi performed a couple more hand signs and held out his hand as he spoke, "Water Release: Water Whip Jutsu." A long rope-like stream of water erupted from his hand to form a liquid whip. "This jutsu isn't well-known, but the Kirigakure hunter-nin tend to use it from time to time."

Jun had watched with mild interest, as he'd already used the Technique Compendium and thus already knew the jutsu, before repeating the hand signs and repeating the jutsu's name. Same as Sarutobi's invocation, a stream of water formed in Jun's hand as he, with a playful smile, attempted to smack the Third Hokage's hand that held his own whip.

Seeing Jun attempting to 'disarm' him, Sarutobi smiled a little before, with the slightest twitch of his hand, deflected the boy's water whip and lightly tapped him on the head. "Don't get ahead of yourself, boy. You've got a long way to go before you can even scratch me."

With a mild pout, Jun held his head as he stared at the old Hokage, "Fine..." He thought for a moment before asking, "Hokage-sama... when was the last time someone invented a new jutsu?"

"Hm? A new jutsu? Well, creating one, I haven't heard of for quite a number of years... In fact, I can't even remember the last one, but that could just be my memory. There's a certain genius, though, who is proficient in Space-Time jutsu, who is in the process of creating one, though. I have yet to see him perform it, so I wouldn't know how close he is to completing it." Jun knew that the Third Hokage was referencing Namikaze Minato, the future Yellow Flash and Fourth Hokage, who was likely developing his signature jutsu, the Hiraishin. Sarutobi grunted, "I'm getting old, all these young kids are overtaking my generation like gangbusters..." With a mild groan, the old Hokage said, "Enough talking about my age, let's continue."

Over the next half-hour before classes started at the Academy, Sarutobi tested Jun on several E-rank and D-rank jutsus, each of which the young boy mastered immediately. After proving himself able to use all seven chakra natures, and even making alterations to the jutsus on the spot, Jun was undoubtedly considered a prodigy by Sarutobi, along with other instructors who had come to watch after sensing numerous jutsus being cast by the Hokage.

"With all these witnesses, there's no way I can't admit you to the Academy, but, in all honesty, I can't think of any reason for you to attend classes." Sarutobi was visibly conflicted as for what to do in this situation. "You'll still have to attend the general courses for the basic knowledge, but you don't need to take any jutsu-related classes. We'll mark you as a provisional Genin, at least until you prove your knowledge of the general courses. Once you prove it, regardless of when you do, we'll get you prepared for your Genin assessment."

Jun nodded, "Yes, Hokage-sama, I understand. Should I stay for classes today, or come back tomorrow. I still need to go to the Orphanage..."

After pondering for a moment, Sarutobi clasped his hands, "Since you haven't even been in Konoha for one day, I'll give you a free pass. Go explore the village for the day, and I'll check in on you tomorrow and see how you're doing."

Jun nodded and bowed respectfully to everyone in the classroom, and the hallway full of curious instructors, before heading to the window and deftly jumping out and walking away.

A moment of silence remained in the air before Sarutobi clapped loudly, "Alright, enough excitement, back to your classes before those kids misbehave."

"Yes, Hokage-sama," cried the instructors in sync before heading off. Not five minutes later, the sounds of children made their way through the halls.

With a small smile, the Third Hokage shook his head, "Kids these days are getting more and more impressive."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Makurasame Makurasame

I'm not sure if I even like this chapter, but it was the best I could do. I'd like Jun to be 10 before he graduates, for a couple reasons, but I'd also like him to not live in the Orphanage so that he meets Naruto later on instead of immediately. Of course, he could also become Naruto's big brother that raises him, but that might alter his character too much...
