Chapter 10: Revisiting the Academy

Crid run passed the sleeping meadows. Catching his breathe, the sight he saw left him at awe.

Thousand blades of grass swayed, as a gentle breeze cradled them into a deep slumber. Clouds gently sailed the sleepy night, with the stars winking on those adventurous enough to stay awake. He felt something. As if his destiny was being born underneath that blanket of calmness.

The wind blew ominously, almost wanting to whisper long forgotten knowledge into his ears. Prophecies of his destined arrival.

He didn't know why, but the sight awakened his soul. Maybe it was the stunning beauty of this world, a scenery that is severely secluded in the bustling cities of his previous one.

"I guess a little rest would do." Though it was only an excuse. Crid rested, his back welcomed by the tickling embrace of the grass. While he was endlessly amused by the unmoving stars that filled the night sky.

After getting bored, Crid rolled at the thick meadows. As he happily steamrolled the grass like a child, his joy was put to an end when something thorned his back. Angrily grabbing the rock, he noticed something was engraved on it. "Good luck, kid." It said.

Crid paused for a moment, before realizing who put it there. He didn't know weather he should laugh or cry. The last time he checked, Klaus wasn't interested in Divination. Using those constellations to predict the future. He could accurately guess that his mentor would rather watch grass grow, than to study magic.

Growing paranoid that Klaus would know that he's wasting time. Crid immediately jumped off the tickling embrace. Telling himself that if Klaus knew he had been slacking off, his punishment would be beyond what hell offers.

He used Stealth as he brushed pass the tall grass, slowing down his traveling speed significantly. Even when no danger is present. The several ambushes he suffered in his glorious gaming career, thought him that tranquility is a cloak of danger.

As days passed by, Crid noticed how his physical fitness increased. His endurance went leaps and bounds in just a month, shortening the time of rest he needed. While his speed made him reach his destination a whole lot faster.

Even when the inhabitants of Primordial Crown grew stronger faster, the amount he improved was still surprising. It must have been because of Klaus' hellish training, he thought. Back then all he ever thought of was complaining, never noticing his tremendous increase in his fitness.

But no matter how much he increased his strength, it would still wouldn't be enough to ensure his safety. Especially when Alpha is still lurking in the academy.

With this in mind, everytime he took a break. He ensured to perfect his two Skills. Browsing his memories for the combinations he used to dominate his peers. Though a new feature was added in the Skill system, Masteries. But he decided to learn about it some other time.

After trudging the land for a couple of days, Crid finally saw the Academy in the distance. He stood for a moment, eager to retrieve the item he longed.

Below the watchful gave of the moonlight, he moved like a shadow. Using the large rubbles to his advantage. Having a stronger body allowed him to reach the academy a few hours faster. Like the rest of the Broken Isle, the Academy was sound asleep. With the silence almost being deafening.

Sadly, he didn't even had a second to enjoy the peace, as the sound of hurried footsteps brushed passed the grass. Causing Crid to instinctively hide behind a rubble. As far as he know, only him and Klaus were the only ones in this barren land.

Wanting to satisfy his curiosity, Crid sneaked a peek. The figure was veiled by a black cloak from head to toe, with his face hiding behind the darkness of the shadows. Not an inch of skin was exposed. Whoever it was, he trudged fast, wanting to finish his business as soon as possible.

"The Keeper was suppose to be still slumbering, why are his minions in the Broken Isles?" Crid felt his heart sank down to his boots. The Keeper was the god of the Arcane magic, the source of power of all Wizards. Because of this, he was commonly called the Wizard God instead of the Keeper of the Arcane

But in the game, the gods were still slumbering. There was suppose to be still time before they started plotting against each other. Yet, their minions were already here.

Crid gritted his teeth. He didn't know what the Keeper seeks, but he wasn't gonna interfere with him just yet. What he needed now was to gain strength, and angering a god would be a death sentence he needed avoid.

The figure kept fiddling his sleeves, with his thumps being heavy. Being a god's summon, it's lifespan will depend on how much lifeforce was given to it. Seeing the way this summon was hurrying and how exhausted it was, Crid concluded it was nearing it's end.

But it was still the property of a god, and having slaughtered mounds after mounds of them. Crid knew just how dangerous they were. Especially when they also serve as the eyes of their gods, one wrong mistake and the Keeper would discover him.

After the figure descended on the lower floors, Crid waited a couple of minutes before following. Summons always had several Spells casted by the Gods themselves, and Crid was completely certain that the figure had a detection buff. The greatest weakness of all assassin, and he was no exception.

Making sure that the summon was long gone, Crid sprinted at full speed. The walls illuminated every inch of the hallway, with no place to hide. He didn't mind how loud his thumps were, the only thing in his mind was to find that secret passage.

Arriving at the lobby, Crid immediately went to the biggest entrance. It lead to the personal rooms of the magi. He frantically used his palm to feel through the walls, but all he felt was the warmth that came from the light it emitted.

"Where is it? Where is it?" Crid prayed, but all that he felt was that endlessly annoying warmth. "Arrghh. Why did I ever believed Anthony?" He complained.

Anthony was one of his friends that got transported into this game. With his Class being Magus. Even when Crid knew every single secret passage of the academy, there were a certain passage that was exclusive to Magus players.

A quest that will allow them to know the story of the strongest Magus to exist. With his friend Anthony being one those who completed it. Though he complained that the first player that completed the quest received a special item.

His friend bragged about how he beaten Crid from knowing the academy's ultimate secret. Telling him that even a non-magus can enter these passages as long as they knew the password. But he first needed to find a specific brick on the wall.

Crid was starting to consider killing his friend when he suddenly felt it. Unlike all the other bricks, it was icy-cold. It almost felt like a block of ice. Not willing to waste a single second, Crid immediately said the password.

"The pursuit for an undying life is my mission!"

Crid watched it anxiously, even noticing the negligible light it emitted. Seeing the white glow that started crawling on his body, it felt like the warmth of the safe haven that awaited him. As the glow completely veiled him, he disappeared under a blaze of light.

After the teleportation, Crid had the urge to vomit. "I never thought that it would be awful in real life." He complained as he shook off his dizziness.
