Chapter 7: Chapter 7 : Lonely Mei Xing
Everyone just kept silence for a moment until Hui Yin asked for Jun Hong's reasonings.
Hui Yin : Jun Hong, you said you believed that she doesn't hate basketball. Then why do you think she doesn't want to play in any games anymore? Even if it's not basketball, she could've play other sports right?
Ying Yue : Yeah.. I was wondering the same thing. Why would she let her talent that she inherited by her parents go to waste?
Jun Hong : Ahh.. Thats a tough question. But you know what? I more or less understand how she feels. Coach Wu and his wife, Mdm Wu are both prestigious adults. My guess is that whenever or wherever she play basketball or other sports, people around her would eventually talk about her parents.
If it were me, I wouldn't be able to enjoy playing if the people around me would always bring up my late parents... Anyone would want to stabbed a ball with a knife just to shut them up.
Hui Yin : [ As I thought... Seems like Jun Hong could easily interpret her feelings based on her actions.. Should I ask him to meet with Jia Li? ]
Ying Yue : I bet she feels lonely... I wonder who she lives with now?
Hui Yin : Coach Chai said she's living alone in an apartment now. She's going to be 18 years old soon so she insisted to live independently. After studying in the USA for 3 years, she decided to come back.. Probably to take over and handle what she couldn't back then.
Ying Yue : How does he knows all this? Coach Chai seems like a stalker now....
Hui Yin : He really cares for her.. He said he used to see her when she's just a baby. And since Mei Xing doesn't want to meet him or answer his call, he asked her uncle to update him anything related to Mei Xing. Of course, some cash had to be involved.
Ying Yue : I see...
Hui Yin : Jun Hong, Coach Chai also told me this...
" If there's anyone that could make Mei Xing play basketball again, Jun Hong would have the biggest chance."
Jun Hong : Wow... So much trust...
Hui Yin : Just think about it.. Okay?
Jun Hong : [Man... What you expect me to do?] Sure but no promises...
A FEW DAYS LATER...
After class had ended :
Jia Li rushed to Mei Xing's classroom, only to see Mei Xing was about to leave.
" Mei Xing! Wait! Let me explain... "
But Mei Xing just left without paying any attention to her.
Jia Li : Mei Xing.....
Since the day when she found out that Jia Li tricked her, she didn't pick up her phone calls nor reply her texts. She's been avoiding Jia Li because she felt hurt.
Why?
She told Jia Li many times that she doesn't want to play basketball anymore, especially when there's people watching. But for her sake, because Jia Li asked for a favor, she was willing to play a game for her. She could never refuse a favor from the only friend who wholeheartedly gave her moral support, who she thought would support whatever decisions she made.
Just for her sake, she even flew all the way from USA to celebrate her birthday. But they always ended up playing basketball the whole day because that's what Jia Li wishes to do.
But what angers her the most, she even lied about her mother. After what happened that day, she went straight to Jia Li's house, wanting to hear her explanations before she misunderstood her actions. To her surprise, Jia Li's mother was the one that opened the door. She didn't seem like she's sick at all. In fact, she looked happy and pretty with her makeup on, like she's preparing to go out for shopping.
" Eh? Mei Xing! What brings you here? No time no see. You look more and more like your mother."
" Good morning, Mdm Song. Um, Thank you. Is.. Jia Li home..?"
" Jia Li? Wait ah..."
Knowing that she's home, Mei Xing wanted to stop Mdm Song from calling her but she was a bit too late.
" JIA LI!! JIA LI COME DOWN! THERE'S SOMEONE LOOKING FOR YOU! "
Mdm Song was loud and clear. Jia Li
rushed down, wondering who it was until she saw Mei Xing's disappointed face...
" Mei.. Mei Xing? What... What are you.. You... doing here?" she was surprised to see her and panicked that she stuttered.
[Shouldn't she be playing by now? Unless... Vice Captain's plan had failed....]
Feeling guilty while looking at her disappointed eyes, Jia Li didn't know what to do..
" Mei Xing... I can explain..."
However, before Jia Li could explain, Mei Xing ran away, not willing to listen.
" Mei Xing!!!"
Jia Li was about to run after her, but was stopped by her mother.
" Jia Li! I don't understand what's going on but I have an important meeting to attend. I need you to stay at home to watch over your siblings."
Jia Li wanted to argue but her siblings started to go downstairs and look at her, curious what had happened.
" Fine..."
Mei Xing... I'm so sorry...
In Mei Xing's head:
How could she.. . She lied to me... She tricked me... Just to make me play?!
Why is everyone's trying so hard to make me play again?!
Everywhere I go, people look at me with sympathy. Whenever I play, there's always people comparing me with Dad. The professionals that mom used to train would even look for me, saying that they would train me like how mom used to trained them, to be a better player than Dad.
Why... Why can't they just let me be...
Mom... Dad... If I didn't make that wish, would've things stay the same as they used to? Would you guys still be alive?
I miss you guys...
I feel so lonely...
As she run, tears flow down her cheeks.
" Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! " she cried out loud. The pain that she had in her heart was too much to handle.
I had enough....
