Chapter 12: Chapter 12 : Mei Xing have fever
Jia Li turn the doorknob and was about to enter the nurse office but stopped halfway when she saw the back of a boy.
Jun Hong? What's he doing here...
Just as she was about to call out his name, Jun Hong abruptly stand up as he wanted to grab his towel from his bag on the sofa located near the door. Jia Li instinctively hide behind the wall, leaving the door open with a little gap for her to peek on him.
After confirming Jun Hong was back to his seat based on his footsteps and the sound of the chair scraping against the floor, she sneeked a peek at him.
Jun Hong was wiping off Mei Xing's sweat using his towel. As he accidentally touch her soft skin, he felt her temperature was slightly higher than normal. He frowned while saying to himself, " This girl... She even have a fever."
Meanwhile, Jia Li observed from far how well Jun Hong treated Mei Xing while she's fast asleep. He put on the fever patch on her forehead and making sure the blanket cover her to keep her warm. As she sweats, he constantly wipe it with his towel.
Seeing this, Jia Li was about to leave but then she heard someone calling out her name.
"Jia Li? What are you doing here? The class is about to start."
Jia Li turned around and see the nurse walking towards her with a file in her hand.
" Miss Lim, I... Um.. Actually I..."
At this moment, Jun Hong went to open the door wider as he heard the nurse's voice. But as he was about to say something to Miss Lim, he saw there's another girl with her.
" This is...?"
" You don't know her? She's also a basketball player though. "
" Miss Lim, I've only managed to pass the basketball selection this year so I'm practically a newcomer in this school's basketball club." she quickly explained.
" Is that true? You've visited the office to get treatment at least once a month while wearing a basketball jersey. I've always thought you're part of the team. "
" Haha... Unfortunately my results were not up to the standard. Previously, I just played only when the court was empty. But this year will be different "
" Good for you then. This is what the school wants to achieve. To encourage students to study hard to get into their chosen sports team. It sounds silly at first but thanks to that we are proud to have teams full of smart players. " she said like a proud mom.
Feeling as if his presence was being ignore, he looked at Jia Li and asked with a prideful tone,
" Newcomer, so what's your name? "
Miss Lim realised that Jun Hong was being rude so she glared at him and said,
" Jun Hong! Watch your tone. "
" It's okay Miss Lim, he is a year older than me. "
It seems like the rumours are true... He acts like he's some kind of big shot. But too bad I've seen the soft part of him just awhile ago. While thinking about it, she couldn't help but smile.
" Hello, my name is Song Jia Li. Nice to meet you. "
Jun Hong lifted his eyesbrows when he heard her name.
Jia Li?
" So you're Mei Xing's childhood friend..." he said out loud without thinking.
" Eh? How.. Did you know about that?"
Both Miss Lim and Jia Li were staring at him with a confuse look. While Jun Hong was trying to make an excuse, he heard some noises came from the back.
Mei Xing?
Forgetting about Jia Li's question, he quickly went to check on her. Miss Lim and Jia Li also follow from behind.
A few minutes earlier...
Mei Xing woke up when she heard a familiar voice.
Jia Li? Is that you?
After sitting up in bed and listening to the voices outside, she could tell that Jia Li was having a conversation with Miss Lim. However, she didn't expect to hear Jun Hong's voice as well.
Him again!? How dare he speak like that to Jia Li.
As she was about to get out of bed, she realized that there's a fever patch on her forehead and towel by her side.
Did Jia Li took care of me when I'm asleep?
Having this thought, she couldn't help but tear up. She recalled the time when Jia Li would always be by her side whenever she's not feeling well and buy lots of fever patches and make hot ginger lemon tea for her.
Mei Xing suddenly started to feel a bit too warm so she toss away the blanket. Unexpectedly, something flew away at the same time.
It was Jun Hong's mobile phone...
But Mei Xing didn't know that and assume that it belongs to Jia Li. It has a black phone casing and the size seems similar like Jia Li's from far. But actually, Jun Hong and Jia Li have different size of phone with different branding. Only the phone casing are of the same colour.
She went to pick up the phone from the floor. Before she could suspect anything different about it, Jun Hong called out her name.
" Mei Xing... Are you okay?"
As she heard her name being called, she turned around but her focus was not on him. Instead, she was staring at Jia Li with sad expressions. Ignoring Jun Hong, she straight went to Jia Li and hug her.
" Jia Li, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have avoided you these past few days. Thank you for taking care of me despite our little fight. And I accidentally crack your phone just now... I'm really sorry. I'll promise to get it fix so will you forgive me? "
Mei Xing speak without much paused that Jia Li had to stay silent for a awhile.
Taking care of her? My phone?
When Jia Li look at Jun Hong, she saw Jun Hong's signaled her to not say the truth. Although she was reluctant, she didn't want to make things awkward for both of them. So while hugging Mei Xing, she said,
" It's okay... It's not your fault. Don't worry bout the phone. I'll fix it myself. Right now, just focus on recovering. Okay?"
Then, she smoothly get the phone from Mei Xing's hand without having her to suspect anything.
" Okay.. But let me know the price and I'll pay you back. No more negotiating. Deal? "
" Haha.. Sure, together with lunch? "
" Deal. "
" By the way... "
" Yeah?"
" Why is Jun Hong here in the first place?"
