Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Luna's POV

MY MOTHER DROVE ME AND MY LITTLE BROTHER TO THE AIRPORT with windows rolled down. It was 75 degrees in Phoenix, the sky a perfect, cloudless blue. I was wearing my favorite white hoodie—with black skinny ripped jeans and black converse; I was happy to go to Kupreanof island. Because I really hate the sun.

In the most forested place in Alaska, an island named Kupreanof island, my hometown, exists by the eastern shore of Kupreanof. It snows and rains on this inconsequential island more than any other place in Alaska. It was on this island, my mother gave birth to me and moved to Phoenix when I was only a few months old. It was in this city that me and my family been spending a month every summer until I was 14.

It was to Phoenix that I now exiled myself—an action that I took with great horror. I detested Phoenix.

I loved Kupreanof. I loved the rain/snow and the blistering cold. I loved the vigorous, sprawling Forest.

"Daniel," my mom said to my little brother—the last a thousand times—before we go on the plane. "Are you sure you didn't leave anything?"

My mom looks like me, except with short hair and laugh lines.

"No Mom, I didn't leave anything," Daniel said.

"Ok, I was just making sure."

"Mom, you haven't told me where were going."

"Just wait and see," she insisted. "You'll like it there."

But I can see a little sadness in her eyes behind the promise.

"Ok, I believe you," Daniel said. "I just hope people will like me."

"They will."

She hugged Daniel tightly for a minute, and then we all got on the plane.

It's 8h 30m duration, 2+ stops flight from Phoenix, AZ to Kupreanof, another hours in a small plane to Kupreanof island, then an hour drive back down to our house. Flying doesn't bother me; the hour in the car with Daniel, though, I was a little annoyed about.

Daniel and I don't really get along, but I do love him as a brother. He is annoying sometimes and I hate that he pranks with me. It's my turn to prank him when he sleep at night.

But it was sure to be annoying with Daniel. Neither of us was what anyone would call verbose, and I didn't know what there was to say regardless. I knew he was more than confused to where we were going—we didn't tell him because Mom said it would be a surprise for him, I already have a secret to hide when we get there.

When we landed on the island, it was raining. Just the way I like it. My dad was waiting for us with his car. This I was expecting. Since, my Dad already came here first than us to get the house ready. Dad gave us a happy, armed hug when we stumbled our way of the plane.

"It's good to see you again, Lucy" he said to mom. "I got the house ready for us."

"It's good to see you too, Jason," she said. "I'm glad that the house is ready." We we're getting in the car.

We only brought a few bags. Most of our stuff got shipped here. All the bags fit in the car.

"I bought a car for you, Luna," he announced when we were strapped in.

"What kind of car?" I was really curious to what kind of car it was.

"A black Ford Mustang, your favorite color."

"Do you remember Ethan Wilson?" He asked.

   "Yeah."

"He's in a wheelchair now," he said.

   "He is?" Mom asked worried.

"Yes," he said. "he can't drive anymore, so he offered to sell me his car."

"What year is it?" I said more curious of this car.

"Well he just bought it last year, so only 1 year old."

I hoped he didn't think so little of me as to give up that easily. "Oh ok, thanks dad."

  "No problem."

"I also registered you to school, your going tomorrow."

  "Ok."

We ,except me, exchanged a few more comments on the weather, which was wet, and that was pretty much it for conversation. We stared out the windows in silence.

It was beautiful, of course; I couldn't deny that. Everything was green: the trees, their trunks covered with moss, their branches hanging with a canopy of it, the ground covered with ferns. Even the air/light filtered down greenly through the leaves.

It was too green—just the way I liked it.

Eventually we made it to our new house. It was pretty big, it was near a forest. Perfect. There, parked on the street in front of the house was my new car. It was black. I loved it.

"Wow, Dad, I love it! Thanks!" Now my horrific day tomorrow would be just less dreadful. I wouldn't be faced with the choice of walking two miles to school.

"I'm glad you like it," he said.

It took the whole day to get our things in the house, unpacked and decorated. I got the west bedroom that faced out over the forest. While my brother got the other room, since my parents room was downstairs. My room was big. After Mom decorated it; the white carpeted floor, the ocean blue walls, the whited lace curtains around the windows, the white layered bed, the white desk with my new bought laptop, and my mirror slide doored closet. It was perfect.

One thing about Mom was that, she knows what I liked to have in my bedroom. She helped me unpack and got settled in, it was nice to be alone, not to have to smile and look pleased; a relief to stare dejectedly out the window at the sheeting rain and not get annoyed by a annoying brother. I still have to prank Daniel. I would have to save that at bedtime, when he's sleeping.

Kake High School had a total of only 357—now 358—students; there were more than 700 people in my junior class alone back home. All of the kids  here had grown up together—their grandparents had been toddlers together. I would be the new girl from Arizona, a beautiful curiosity, a blonde.

Maybe, if I looked like a girl from Phoenix should, I could work this to my advantage. But physically, I'd never be unnoticed. I should be a girl that's not noticed, than is.

Instead, I was a paled white like snow skinned, with dark ocean blue eyes and beautiful long long golden-yellow-blonde hair. I had always been slender, but soft inside and cold outside somehow, obviously is an athlete; I have the necessary hand-eye coordination to play sports. My mom always said, my skin was warm, pale white snow skinned that feels like honey or oils poring on you.

When we finished putting my clothes in the closet, I took my bag of bathroom necessities and went to the bathroom to clean myself up after the day of travel. I looked at my face in the mirror as I brushed my straight, kinda tangled? soft hair. My skin was smooth and soft—very clear.

I was always a quit type, unless people ask me why I looked like this. Sometimes I wonder why my secret was that, out of anything else. But I still like what I am, it's more than enough than to be human. But it didn't matter, because tomorrow is when I would begin to keep my secret. I was looking at the light that moved everywhere, as I shower.

I sleep well than I did back home that night, The constant whooshing of the rain and wind made it peaceful, like melody through my ears. Thick fog was all I could see out my window at the forest in the morning, and I could feel the light and sounds waking me up more. After the prank on Daniel last night, I couldn't stop laughing. Until Mom said to say sorry to him.

Breakfast was amazing as always. My parents wished me good luck and to be careful not to reveal my secret. Dad left first to take Daniel to school. After they left, Mom keep saying about secret and stuff, while I focused on the kitchen Mom help Dad to decorate; dark paneled walls, bright yellow cabinets, and white linoleum floor. Over the small fireplace in the adjoining big sized family room was a row of pictures. First a wedding picture of Mom and Dad in Las Vegas, then one of the 4 of us after Daniel was born, taken by a helpful nurse, followed by the procession of mine's and Daniel's school pictures up to last years.

I didn't want to be too early too school, but I wanted to get out the house. I put on my casual black leathered jacket—and headed out into the rain, before saying goodbye to Mom.

The sloshing of my converse was unnerving. I tried to not get my converse dirty. I couldn't pause and admire my car again as I wanted; I was in a hurry to get to school.

Inside the car, it was nice and dry. Either Ethan or Dad had obviously cleaned it up, but the dark black seats smelled like Arabian Jasmine and Mint, my 2 favorite fragrance. The engine started quickly, to my relief, but so quit, the radio worked as well.

Finding the school wasn't difficult, though I'd never been there before. The school was, like most other things, just off the highway. It was obvious that it was a school; the sign, which declared it to be Kake High School, made me stop. It looked like a collection of matching hoses, built with maroon-colored bricks.

I parked in front of the first building, which had a small sign over the door reading FRONT OFFICE. No one else was parked there, so I was sure it was off limits, but I decided I would get directions inside instead of circling around in the rain like an idiot. I stepped unwittingly out of the car and walked down a little stone path lined with dark hedges. I took a deep breath before opening the door.

Inside, it was brightly lit, and warmer than I'd hoped. The office was small; a little waiting area with padded folding chairs, orange-flecked commercial carpet, notices and awards cluttering the walls, a big clock ticking loudly, and lights following everywhere. Plants grew everywhere in large plastic pots. The room was cut in half by a long counter, cluttered with wire baskets full of papers and flyers. There were 3 desks behind the counter, one of which was manned by a tall, black-haired woman. She was wearing a blue t-shirt, which immediately made me feel overdressed.

The black-haired woman looked up. "Can I help you?"

"I'm Luna Argent," I informed her, and saw the immediate awareness light her eyes. I was expecting, a topic of my looks, but nothing.

"Of course," she said. She dug through a precariously stacked pile of documents on her desk till she found the ones she was looking for. "I have your schedule right here, and a map of the school." She brought several sheets to the counter to show me.

She went through my classes for me, highlighting the best route to each on the map, and gave me a slip to have each teacher signed, which I was to bring back at the end of the day. She smiled at me and hoped, that I would like it here in this school. I smiled back as convincingly as I could.

When I went back out to my car, other students were starting to arrive. I drove around the school following the line of traffic. At home I'd lived in one of the few lower-income neighborhoods. I'm glad that there was a nice car like mine at the lot.

I looked at the map and schedule in the car, trying to take a picture of it; so I don't have to walk around with a map and schedule stuck in front of my nose all day. I put everything down on the other passenger seat, got my phone and stepped out of the car.

I kept my face pulled back into my hood; trying not to draw attention, as I walked down the sidewalk crowded with teenagers.

Once I got around the cafeteria, building '3' was easy to spot. My breathing was slowing down as I approached the door.

The classroom was small. The people in front of me stopped just inside the door to hang up their coats on a long row of hooks.

I took the slip out of my pockets, took it to the teacher. The teacher was surprised to see my face, and he sent me in the back of the room without introducing me to the class, which is a relief. It was hard to stay in the back, with people staring in awe at my face and beauty. I'd was just sitting there bored of what the teacher was talking about, since I already learned about it back home, I just stared up at the ceiling...

When the bell rang, I quickly went out the door, when I got out the door I checked my phone to see what class I have next. I headed out to building '4', for my next class.

When I got to class the teacher signed my slip, and told me to sit at the back. My deskmate stared at my face in awe.

"Do you need something?" I asked.

"No, I was just thinking that you are so pretty." She said, still in awe.

"Thanks, I get that comment a lot."

   "My name is Emma Russell."

Russell, I think I heard of that name from Mom. Oh yeah she's a witch.

"Your a witch, right?" I whispered to her, also surprising her.

"Yeah, how do you know?"

"I'm Luna Argent."

"Oh, your an a-"

But before she could say the word I covered her mouth.

"Shhhh." I said and she nodded. I let go of my hand from her mouth.

"It is true," she said. "You're skin is warm and smoothly soft like honey or oil."

"Yeah. It's true."

"Well, I know that we would be best of friends."

"Sure. Why not."

After class ended we both got up, and headed to another same class. I took the slip to the teacher, and she signed it. I then walked to a table where Emma and some other boy was sitting at.

"Hi," I said to the boy, I can sense that he's a wizard.

"Hi," he said.

"Your a wizard right?"

"Yeah, how do you know?"

"She's a—" Emma said the last part to his ear.

"Ohh."

"Yeah, I'm Luna"

"I'm Tylor Black," he said. "Emma's boyfriend."

"I could see that," I said looking down at them holding hands. They noticed that I was looking so they both blushed red.

"We will be the best of friends," he said.

After class, we went to the cafeteria. Once we got in everyone was staring at me in awe. I could here boys talking if they should ask me to prom or spring dance. We walked to an empty table, where no one sits at, near another table of people. They felt like vampires. Maybe I should ask them. Tylor and Emma went to get lunch. Then they came back with 2 trays of food. "Who are they?" I asked.

"Them, oh they are Mr. and Mrs. Mikaelson's kids." Tylor said.

"The blonde-girl is Mia while the other short-haired girl is Elena." Emma said. "And the blonde-boy is Aaron and the other red-haired boy is Jake, Elena and him are couples and the other 2 are couples too. Even if they are sibling."

"Who is the other one?" I asked.

"Oh him, he's Lucifer," Tylor said.

"Ok..., I'll be right back, ok?" I said standing up. When Tylor said about Lucifer I felt urged to be next to Lucifer. Why? Maybe he's my mate, no I can't be sure of that easily.

"Ok, but where to?" Emma asked.

"You'll, see." I said as I walked to the table that Taylor and Emma was talking about, and that smelled like vampires. I walked there I could sense Tylor and Emma staring at me from behind. I got to the table and I sit down at an empty chair, as they looked at me.

    "Hi, I'm Luna."

"Hi, and what are you doing here?" Elena asked.

    "Your Mr. Mikaelson's Kid, right?"

     "Yeah. Why?"

"Oh nothing, I just wanted to asked you guys a question, when I first saw you, is that ok?"

"Sure, what is it." Elena said that and they all looked curious except Lucifer who leaned away from me, who sat next to me. I leaned a way too, it's just his smell is driving me crazy.

"First of all, is he okay?" I asked pointing my thumb at my left, at Lucifer.

"Oh him, he's alright," Elena said smirking at Lucifer. I wonder why? But I just put that question behind me.

"The question was, are you guys vampires?" I asked in a whispering tone. They all looked at me wide eyes.

"How did y—," Jake said. But then the bell ranged interrupting them.

"Oh well look at the time, I gotta go," I said and winked at Elena who I knew what I'm talking about. She nodded at me.

"Let's just say we can talk later about this," I said. "Well I gotta go to my next class." I walked away to where Tylor and Emma was at. Then I turned around remembering something.

"Oh and Lucifer," I said as he looked up at me glaring. "See you in Biology and Elena I hope you don't mind keeping my secret until I tell them?."

Elena nodded 'ok' and I walked away to the couples that was waiting for me.

"What did you asked them?" Tylor asked.

"Let's just say it's a secret," I said putting my index finger on my lips, looking behind me seeing that theirs nobody their at the table.

"Ok, anyway we're late for biology, come on," Emma said dragging me to building '6' with Tylor behind me.

"Ok ok" I said. I could sense the bell was gonna ring any minutes now,

"Tylor," I said.

"Yeah."

"How fast can you run?"

"Pretty fast."

"Good," I said and I picked up Emma bridal style and looked around me seeing that nobody's here.

"Let's go," I said running away to Biology. I felt Tylor was close behind me.

When we went inside the Biology class everyone was looking at me. And the bell rang after I got in.

"Sorry," I said putting Emma down.

"It's ok, you guys made it in time," the teacher said.

"Thank you," I said and walked to the teacher, gave him the slip, and he sighed it. Emma and Tylor was sitting at their table.

"Ok there you go, and just sit by Lucifer."

"Ok," I said walking to the table where Lucifer was at.

"Hi, again" I said to him, sitting down and leaning away from him. But he didn't answer me, he just glared at me and leaned away too. I thought that I smelled bad. So I smelled my self; my skin smelled like honey and Arabian Jasmines, while my hair smell like mints. What's wrong with him? I thought looking into Lucifer eyes that was dark black, who was staring back at me.

When the bell was about to ring, Lucifer got up and went out the door and the bell ringed shortly after that. I got up and headed to gym...

Gym was amazing, I mostly won the game than any other person. The gym teacher liked me, while the boys was talking about asking ,more like whispering, me out to prom or spring dance again. While the girls mostly asked me about my beauty or stared at me as I played. So annoying. I went to the girl's locker room and got dressed. I then head out to my car. Then I saw the Black's waiting by there car. I think there waiting for me. They were looking at me. I winked at them and I got in my car, drove out the parking lot and I went to the front office. After that, I went home at top speed, luckily I didn't get a ticket.

When I got got home, Mom already made dinner and Daniel and Dad was eating. I soon join them and said thanks to Mom. After eating I helped Mom clean, then I went to my room and I played on my laptop. While, I took off my shoes. After awhile I went to bed.

The next day was just normal, except I didn't see Lucifer at school. When I got home, I just ate and went upstairs to my room

At night, I went to bed. When I was almost half a sleep, I felt Lucifer in my room.

"Lucifer." When I said his name he went away.

From then on, Lucifer came to my room, and when he did, I called out to him. But he always go away after I said his name.

Which is so weird, why would he come in my room and go away. Without talking to me or coming to school. 2 weeks past by and he didn't come to school, but he did come into my room when I was half a sleep. Then he go away when ever I say his name.
