Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Are You Back For Good?

Two months had gone so fast and I'm completely recovered. Today I have to go back to my Surgeon for my last consultation.

I finished my primary treatment and that was the surgery. After this, I will have to go through different treatments or therapies. All will depend on the type of cancer that I have. Today I will know the final staging of my cancer. My Surgeon will again explain to me the result of several tests that were done with the breast tissue that was removed out of my body.

It's past 12 noon and my Surgeon had just gone back from a 2 hrs surgery. I know he is exhausted but he greeted me with a smile on his face. "Hello Sophie how are you?" He asked. "I'm doing good." I replied. "Alright, I have now the test results that will finally help you on you next series of treatments." He scans the document as he continue on with his statement. "Well it's good to know that the cancer is still on the early stage which means it curable, but you have an aggressive type of cancer. The treatment for what triggers it is somehow expensive. Your chance of survival is high. For the treatment protocol I will now have to hand you over to an Oncologist, a doctor who specializes in cancer treatment. It's a good timing that a friend of mine who just got back from United States had just been hired in this hospital last week. I tell you he is an expert and If you won't mind, I will recommend him to look after you on your treatment journey. His name is Lance Villareal. I can help you book an appointment if it's alright with you." He finally finishes his advise. "Thank you so much Dr. Flores. I really appreciate your help. I was about to ask you for recommendations, it's awesome that you said it even before I asked." I happily smiled with his genuine concern. "Ok young lady, you can visit me anytime you wish, but I hope not because of any medical concern but more of just greetings. I wish you well, until we meet again." We said our goodbyes after he had given me few instructions with my last set of medications. One chapter ends and another one will begin.

I met my Mom at the car park. She just got back to fetch me after buying some things at the nearby supermarket. I told her that I had booked an appointment next week with the Oncologist recommended by my Surgeon. She was surprised when she heard the name of the Oncologist. "Your Oncologist's name is Lance Villareal? And you said he just got back from the United States?!" She exclaimed. "Yes Mom, but what's with the reaction?" I'm really puzzled with my Mom's reaction. Then she said. "Did you already forgot about your childhood friend?" She asked. "Who? Mom, are you referring to Lanlan? Don't tell me you think he's the Oncologist that I'm referring to. It's impossible, they might coincidentally have similar names. You know what, Lanlan will never ever come back here. Besides, the last time he contacted me was 7 years ago. I know that medical school is difficult, but why. Just why did he forgot about me? Now you're telling me he might be the Oncologist that I am about to meet next week? You must be dreaming Mom." I don't know why, but I suddenly got too emotional at the remembrance of my dear childhood friend. "You said too much." My Mom replied. "Ok dear, he is a different person. Let's go home now and I will cook your favorite dish." Mom started the car engine driving us both home. While on the road, I started to think about what she said. What if she's right? Lanlan, are you really back for me? If it's you, are you back for good?
