Chapter 2: Found You

Hayabusa leaves as soon as he finishes eating.

The words of the men he just overheard still ring in his mind, loud and clear. Part of him hoped Kagura didn't actually run off after him, Seimei umbrella in hand and straight into the rest of the unknown, turmoil-ridden Land of Dawn, but he knew better than to hold on to that. He should have known before he left she'd find a way to catch up to him out here, regardless of whether he told her or not, and what he had heard just confirmed that.

Now he's sure of the guilt he feels for leaving without saying goodbye. It was a futile attempt at trying to keep her away from his trouble, and given how long he's known her and how familiar he is with her, he really should have known better. He strides through the town, hoping to see the familiar petite frame of a girl with white hair, clad in her usual blue dress, clutching the Seimei umbrella amidst the townsfolk still out for the night.

Pushing past the crowds of people that held no familiar face, he soon finds himself in a less crowded part of town, near the outskirts. If she's not in the town itself, he thinks, then she can't be too far. Just as he's about to continue onwards, two people shuffle to stand in his way. He tries to step aside to walk past them, but they mirror his movement. Groaning, Hayabusa takes a good look at the two people, and he can tell by the familiar look of mischief on their faces that he's seen several times now, for the past few days, just what they're up to.

"Where'd you think you're headed?" Says the first goon.

"It's none of your business," Hayabusa says with a huff. He attempts to stride past them when the second goon grabs his shoulder and pushes him back.

He lets it slide, for now. He knows it's too soon to show them yet just how big of a mistake it was to single him out for this.

"Like hell it is, boy. You ain't from here, are you?"

"You're wasting my time. Move."

"Hand over the dough and we just might."

He groans before he tries one last time to ignore them and continue. Both goons take out a dagger from their belts, and the first one grabs Hayabusa from behind and puts the blade up to his throat.

"Don't be so stubborn now. Just do as we say, hand over your money, and we'll let you live."

He scoffs. "Keep on insisting and I might not let you live."

The second goon's laughing now. "And what are you gonna do? Take out that sword on us? There's two of us, only one of you, and you're all shot."

They're about to press the knife to his throat when Hayabusa swiftly grabs the goon's wrist and elbows them hard in the gut. Distracted by his sudden move and the sharp pain in their ribs, they drop their dagger and stumble back. Their accomplice aims to stab him, and the ninja blocks them, delivering a punch square in the face and making them crumple to the ground. The first goon is back with their dagger, about to charge at him. He's just about to throw a shuriken at them when something else strikes them down. Hayabusa looks at the object that made a sudden appearance, and he almost does a double take in disbelief.

It's the Seimei umbrella, upright and twirling mid-air by a magic that feels all too familiar.

He looks at the direction from which it came, and he can't help the soaring feeling in his heart despite his mind telling himself to get a grip. There, just a few meters away from him, she stands.

It's Kagura, in the flesh. With a gesture she sends the umbrella back to her, picking it up. She looks up at Hayabusa, smiling brightly and waving.

"Haya! There you are!"
