Chapter 3: Flames of War

It was a normal day for the Moon Elves. The children were goofing around, the women doing chores and the males, hunting. Such was the scene of a peaceful community. But their peaceful days is about end.

In the dim circular room, filled with holy aura, many holy personages surrounded the altar at the centre. All priests and priestesses kept a five meter distance from the altar as if they are waiting for something to happen. All wore expressions of solemnity and reverence. The altar was dyed with color of moonlight shining down from the ceiling. At the foot of the altar was the offerings.

"May the Moon God bless the land and Elves", a solemn voice said.

"May the Moon God bless the land and Elves", they chorused.

Miya was kneeling at outer circle, praying at the Moon God. She and many others are performing the rites of worship. Occasion like this determine the fortunes of their race, and thus, is sacred.

The head priest stood and approached the altar with parchment and dagger engraved with runes. He put the parchment down before the altar, cut his palm with the dagger and smeared it on the parchment.

"May the Moon God reveal the fortunes of our race", the head priest said.

"May the Moon God reveal the fortunes of our race", they all chorused.

The altar glowed with a blinding silver light for a few minutes before gradually fading away. The parchment laid on the ground untouched but everyone knew that the parchment contains their race's future.

The head priest picked it up and observed it for a while. A few moments later he paled and lost his grip. The parchment dropped to the ground, revealing it's content.

Miya was watching the watching the happenings. Even though she is far away from the parchment, she still saw what it contained due to her excellent eyesight. What she saw made her tense. Gone were the ugly smear, instead in its place was a glowing red symbol.

Miya knew the significance of the symbols, the brightness of the glow and the color itself. Red represents war and the brightness is the indication of how intense the war will be. And by what she saw, Miya determined that there a possibility of her race being wiped out.

The others also saw the contents of the parchment and soon was their faces was filled with anguish.

Miya turned her head from side to side to see their reactions. Those with weaker mental fortitude were close to panicking, others were squirming and the younger ones are already hyperventilating.

"BANG."

"Bad News!!!", the intruder bellowed. "There... ha ha... There are ships approaching the shores. The ships banners are from the Blood Demons!!", he said pantingly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the deck of the largest ship was the chief of the Bloodaxe Orcs, Balmond. He was holding telescope to observe the land of the Moon Elves. As they were approaching the shores, he recalled what Alice said to him.

"Take with you as many elves as you can. You can beat them up as long as they'll live."

"Why?", he asked.

"Because I want to breed them of course. It's a lot of effort to take some of them away. It's far better if we just have them multiply here then I'll have an endless supply of elven blood", she said.

Balmond was terrified of this crazy lady. Even though the orcs considered themselves superior to the elves, being subjected to such a cruel fate chilled his bones. He was just about to protest when Alice said, "I will feed half of your tribe to my kin if you dare disobey me."

Balmond looked at her eyes and saw only cruelty and indifference in those violet orbs. He knew that with the blood contract he would be forced to carry her orders but her threat was made to make him perform what was ordered to him with full effort.

"Fine."

"Good boy."

He felt sad that he had to wage a war just to satisfy a crazy lady's unreasonable demands. But his tribe is hanging by a thread, if he made mistakes, then they're dead.

"Chief... We await your orders."

He can't hesitate now. For the survival of his tribe, he will do what was expected of him.

"Kill the warriors! Take the women and the children. Remember, try to capture as many a you can. You can beat them but make sure they'll live!! Bind the young men, pillage, burn the houses and desecrate the temple!!!"

"RRROOOAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!

"Thud."

The ship hit the shore,
