Chapter 3: Ying Yue
Do you know the meaning of your name? Isn't it fascinating how ours names have meaning? I always wondered why i am named so. Do you wonder too?
My name is Jiang Ying Yue. Ying Yue means reflection of the moon. I was named by my grandma. She once said she wanted me to be gentle yet bright like the moon. The serene beauty of moon shows calmness. It lights up the whole world with it's light in the darkness of night. It shows path to the ones who lost their way in the darkness. It lits the world even there is darkness within it. It calms once mind and show you a way when you are confused. She wanted me to be the reflection of the moon who lits others life and bring smile in everyone's face with it's presence.
My grandma loved the moon. When i was little,we used to look at the moon together.
"Yue-er, look at the moon. Isn't it so beautiful? Even though it is all alone in the sky, it shines brightly. It lets the stars shine more brightly. It lets the world shine even it starts fading. Yue-er,you are like the reflection of moon. Be selfless. Be kind. Be calm and patient. Bring smile to others face with your presence." she always said to me.
5 years little Ying Yue nods her head. "Yue-er, do you know moon has no light of its own?" she asked. I shaked my head. She continued "Moon has no light of its own. Yet it still lits the entire world with the little light it stored from the sun. Even though sometimes there will be no light in your life, try to lit up others life with your light. Do you understand?" Little me didn't understand the full meaning of those word but still i nod as if i understood. My grandma used to burst in to laughter looking at my silly confused expression while trying to act as if i understand everything.
The tiny brain of little Yue didn't understand the meaning of those words but i understood moon was the most beautiful thing. I loved the moon. 'When you are confused, look at the moon. It will help you.' 'When you are happy,look at the moon. It will brighten your smile.' 'When you are sad,look at the moon, it will stay by your side without any word in silence. It will soothe your pain.'
I wanted to be the reflection of the moon.
