Chapter 7: What kind of empress
Shen Mu Lan looked at everyone and they just stared at her wide eyes.
"Ahem" Shen Mu Lan coughed, "since there's no need for everyone, you all are excused except for Doctor Yun"
"Your majesty, this servant requests to stay here as well." Imperial physician Fei quickly stated
"Hmm? Why should this lady agree to your request"
"Your majesty, this servant wishes to learn more about medicine and wishes to stay and support Doctor Yun in your majesty's treatment." said Imperial physician Fei as he bowed his head and kept it there to show his sincerity.
"I see" Shen Mu Lan turn to stare at imperial physician Fei, "Imperial physician Fei this lady is not doubting your skills but honestly speaking, are your skills even on par with Doctor Yun? Even if you wish to support him, how can you know what poison was used, when Doctor Yun does not? Should you know what kind of poison was used, shouldn't this lady doubt you for poisoning her?"
Being Bombarded with questions after questions without waiting for his response, Imperial physician Fei could only lift his head slightly wanting to respond to Shen Mu Lan but the moment his eyes met hers he immediately felt intimidated. Shen Mu Lan looked like a real empress, even the air around her had gone stagnant and cold. But her eyes, they were just so cold, icey cold that it seemed as if she was looking at a corpse.
It sent shivers down his spine but at the same time he felt that he had been wronged. After all the empress had not given him a chance to speak and when he finally had the chance to speak the look in the empress's eyes made him shut his mouth. He could only quickly turned around and left the room, fuming, feeling unresigned and the unfairness in the situation. Afterall, Shen Mu Lan had not given him a chance to speak.
The leaving Imperial physician Fei was red in the face feeling embarrassed and inferior towards Doctor Yun.
"Sigh" Doctor Yun couldn't help but let out a long sigh from hearing their conversation, "Your majesty, imperial physician Fei is inexperienced but he truly wants to learn. These kinds of experiences are hard to come by and would be beneficial towards his growth as a physician."
"It is not that this lady does not know that, it's just simply cause this lady does not trust many people in the palace." Shen Mu Lan looked downcast as she spoke.
"Sigh, this servant understands." Doctor Yun could only pat Shen Mu Lan on the head as he closed his eyes and started nodding his head.
When he opened his eyes to look at Shen Mu Lan, he couldn't help feeling as if he was looking at a little girl who had been abandoned and thrown away on the side of the road.
"Sigh, this servant is also here in the palace should you ever need someone to turn to."
"mmm" Shen Mu Lan said as she nodded coyly.
When Doctor Yun saw her acting this way, he couldn't help but feel a tug at his heart. Shen Mu Lan was, at the prime of her youth afterall. If she really wanted to how could she not make others' hearts beat.
Unfortunately, Doctor Yun who felt "the" tug on his heart soon felt a shiver run down his spine after. The thought quickly crossed his mind that if the empress really wanted to get the emperor's heart, could she not? She was able to make his heart beat, even if it was just for a moment it still beat for her.
He quickly felt ashamed of himself, after all wasn't she at least half his age, she was way too young for him.
Although, he had to admit that even though she wore a veil she was still a beauty. If she was not wearing a veil how many people would fall at her feet.
He then recalled that there was a rumor saying that Chen Yu Lan had once snuck out of her manor but that day she was not wearing her veil thus causing an uproar in the town. When the prime minister heard about the rumors in town he was extremely furious. Since that incident everyone in town had said that Chen Yu Lan's beauty was enough to be the downfall of a kingdom thus resulted in the prime minister having ground Chen Mu Lan in her courtyard never allowing her to set foot outside the manor again until her marriage.
Even for events and parties that happened in the kingdom that required Chen Yu Lan to show up, she never had to for the prime minister had always made up an excuse for her.
Thus started the rumor saying that the prime minister truly adored and favored this daughter of his.
As this thought crossed Doctor Yun mind he couldn't help but wonder for a quick second if the emperor had really brought Shen Mu Lan into the palace as a hostage or for another reason.
Being lost in his own thoughts, he didn't noticed that Shen Mu Lan had been looking at him as a sly smile crept on to her lips for a little before returning to look coyly at Doctor Yun as he came to realize that Shen Mu Lan was staring at him.
"Ahem, excuse this servant for letting his thoughts wonder. I will immediately tell one of my disciples that I trust to prepare the medicine from before and bring it to your majesty." said Doctor Yun as he bowed to Shen Mu Lan.
"mmm" Shen Mu Lan nodded again. "Doctor Yun can this lady really seek you out if she is bored?"
Hearing Shen Mu Lan's question he quickly looked up and replied to her, "Your majesty, you are always welcome to look for this servant. Although this servant is a doctor I only take care of royalties and a few nobles, leaving me with much free time."
"Alright, this lady shall remember your words." Shen Mu Lan looked up at Doctor Yun seriously
At that moment he felt another shiver run down his spine when Shen Mu Lan said that she would come to "seek him out if she is bored" afterall i can't really be that simple.
Doctor Yun let out a small sigh and looked at the young girl who had just become an empress.
"Your majesty, now that we have confirmed the condition of your body you should rest. I will return shortly with a medical porridge." Doctor Yun bowed once again and quickly left the room.
After stepping out of the room he let out a deep sigh before continuing on his way to the medical ward saying in a hushed voice, "Really, What kind of empress did his majesty bring into the palace?"
After Doctor Yun had left Shen Mu Lan then turned her eyes towards the bed and went to lay down while she waited for Doctor Yun to return with the medical porridge.
She let out a deep sigh as she looked towards the mirror across the room. It was finally hitting her, this is now her reality from now on.
