Chapter 6: The Digging
Alex went to office as usual. He was the best hacker, the company owns. He works for one of the world's best private intelligence agency. Alex started browsing through the history of his cases. He used to get many missions and tasks, at the time of joining. But, then the number of tasks decreased with increments in salary and promotions to higher positions. Now he rarely gets any missions. His main task is to provide ideas, proper advice and help to his juniors, while they complete the cases that the company receives. He must ensure their success.
Alex went on browsing the cases. It must take him 2-3 days to get a satisfying outcome. None of the cases seemed to have any possible roots that connect to Steve. It is possible for people like him to have enemies while working for such companies, even though a hacker keeps his identity anonymous. Alex became famous at a very young age, during his debut in the career. He managed to bring down a famous business tycoon, who transported narcotic drugs behind the name of a pharmaceutical company. Well, his brother helped him in the case. Alex's brother Austin was working for the tycoon's pharmaceutical company. He reported the matter to Alex and they planned and solved the case together.
Austin Matthews was a man, he would remember throughout his life. He was the one responsible for Alex's status today. He even helped him succeed in his love story. He convinced their parents to give consent for Alex and Catherine's wedding. It was quite unfortunate and depressing that he met with an accident 3 years ago and had an untimely death. Alex can still remember the day of the funeral as of yesterday.
Alex couldn't find any cases that he could relate. So, he decided to come back and browse the next day. All the cases the company had for the week were of low priority. His juniors could handle them. So, no need for overtime today. He walked back to home. Alex entered the house and saw Catherine sleepy on the couch in the living. She jumped up, seeing Alex. "Oh, Hey! You're back", she said half-wake. "Don't know what's with me. I think the medicines are doing their tricks on me. I'm being a lot more sleepy than usual", she said as a joke.
Alex put his bag down near the table and sat on the couch. He started remembering their old days and how they met. Catherine came to him and sat on his lap. They held each other warm and tight. He kissed her on the lips. They were as soft as they were on their first kiss.
