Chapter 9: Spider-X Chapter 8
Opening scene Spider-Man is swinging through New York late at night. He's jumping on rooftops and free running through the city testing out how the new suit feels. "This is amazing it's so lightweight it moves exactly how I want it to," I said to myself. I stop in front of a reflective window and admire the way it looks and I even flex a little giving myself a show of the design of the new suit. In the middle of my self-admiration, I hear screams. "Whelp duty calls," I say swinging headfirst into danger. I see a woman getting robbed by a man that has a gun pointed at her telling her to shut up and give him all her money. I land a good ten feet from them and say "Leave the nice lady alone". They both look at me shocked and horrified. The thug said "What kind of freak show are you"
"Don't you read the news I'm Spider-Man did the big spider logo on my chest not give it away?" I say with sass.
"Never heard of you," The thug says as he aims his gun at me. Before he can even fire I web line his gun into my hands and crush it in front of him. "Whoa man, I didn't mean anything I said earlier I was just playing," The thug said with his hands raised backing away slowly. Before he can escape or do anything else I test out my new Taser webs on him. They work perfectly the guy's unconscious and on the ground in seconds "Thank you Dr. McCoy" I think to myself.
"Oh my god thank you so much Spider-Man," the woman said.
"Wow, I rarely get any thanks," I say while picking up the thug's body and webbing him to a nearby light post.
"Why you're a hero I don't care what the bugle says about you" the woman continued.
"You mind calling the cops for me to pick this guy up I'd do it myself but for some reason, the boys in blue don't trust a guy in a mask," I say to the woman
"Anything for the guy who saved my life," the woman said. I swing away thinking about how rare I ever get thanked for what I do as Spider-Man everyone just usually sees me as a threat. Tonight's looking up for the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Just then I see a firetruck and an ambulance with their sirens on running through traffic. "Looks like more people need help tonight," I thought as I followed the two emergency vehicles. They lead to what looked like an old factory currently burning to the ground I used my new lenses and saw two people inside. I quickly swung inside to help. There were two people their they both looked like teenagers one girl and one guy the guy was unconscious and stuck underneath a burning pillar the girl was panicking and screaming because she didn't know what to do. I look into the girl's eyes and said "Mrs. I need you to calm down I'm going to pick up this pillar I need you to grab your friend can you do that" I say to her with a strong sense of urgency. She starts breathing heavy but nods her head. I quickly pull the pillar and the girl pulls the guy from under it. I carry the guy outside to the ambulance and lead them both to safety. As soon as they were both checked out by the paramedics I was going to web swing away when I saw what looked like a man on fire on the roof of the warehouse. I web-swing up there to see the boy wasn't on fire but controlling it.
"Are you Spider-Man?" The man said with excitement in his voice. The flames he was making slowly dissipated. "My name's John Allerdyce, I love your work" John continued. I got a better look at him he looked about sixteen with messy blonde hair, and he was a couple of inches taller than me.
"What were you just doing," I asked gesturing to the fire around us.
"I'm a mutant just like you I can control fire isn't that cool," John said with pride.
"No it's not when you almost killed two people," I say lecturing him.
"Those assholes deserved it they always give me shit at school. I showed them just how dangerous we mutants can be" John said without the slightest hint of remorse.
"You knew they were here and tried to kill those two!" I say.
"Well yeah, they always come here to smoke so I figured once they light the match I amp up the flames and watch them burn," John said smiling. This guy a total psychopath he just planned to murder two people and he's happy and smiling about it. I grab him and swing off the burning building away from any people. I land on the pavement on a relatively abandoned street and drop John hard.
"What's your problem Spider-Man," John said.
"You are if you think murder is something to brag about," I say with contempt. "Now you can turn yourself in or face me" I continue. John gets up and looks almost excited to fight someone he lights a match and says "I've never fought another mutant before this will be fun". The fire quickly grows and launches at me like a snake. I just raise my fist and vibro blast it apart. Before John can light another match I tase him. I grab his matches and throw them away and call Xavier.
"Peter what can I do for you," Xavier said.
"Hey, I got a psychotic mutant unconscious on the ground in front of me what do I do with him?" I ask.
"What happened," Xavier asked I give him the whole story and Xavier responds with "I see there is a special mutant police force that can handle and detain him bring him there and they will handle the rest"
"They're not going to abuse him or experiment on him or anything like that?" I ask.
"No he will be well-taken care of I trust this special division it is led by trustworthy people" Xavier assured. "And Peter I'm glad you called me about this"
"Don't mention it" I say and hang up. John was waking up so I tase him again and swing him to the police station Xavier told me about. I wrap John in webs and dangle him in front of their building with a sign that reads "I'm a bad Pyromaniac". I swing around the city seeing no more trouble I go back to the X-Mansion to call it a night. The next morning I'm getting ready for work and just as soon as I leave the front doors I see a woman flying above me. She lands and asks me "Who are you?". She looked to be in her mid-twenties and had dark skin and long silver hair braided and tied behind her back. Though her most striking feature was her pupil-less eyes.
"You were just flying I feel like I should be asking you that" I respond
"Very well my name is- "
"STORM" Kitty says as she phases through me and hugs the woman in front of me.
"Wait your storm I've heard a lot of good things about you," I say. She releases Kitty from their warm embrace and says
"Let me formally introduce myself my name is Ororo Munroe, The wind walker, the Goddess of Thunder and lightning, and the caller of rain. Since I don't know you well you have to say all of that each time you address me". I stood in silence stunned for a moment when Storm and Kitty started laughing "I'm sorry I couldn't help myself" she looked to Kitty "Is he always this serious?".
"Yeah he's a little emo, but he grows on you," Kitty said.
"Well my names Peter Parker, The Spider-Man, the arachnid warrior, or the webbed wonder, but you can call me Peter" We shake hands and Storm says "You can tell a joke that's nice to hear"
"I hate to cut this short Ororo, but I'm gonna be late for work if I don't hurry," I say looking at my watch.
"Go I look forward to getting to know you later," Storm says with a playful smile.
I rush off to work and my day was pretty uneventful aside from Jonah still being on my back because of his fight with Kitty. I log the news stories of the day on the Bugle website I even saw the one about the fire with the clever spin of me being in cahoots with John, but what did I expect from Jonah. As the workday ended and I was heading back I got a call from Xavier.
"Hello" I answer
"Peter we need you back at the X-Mansion there has been an emergency," Xavier said. I swing back in my Spider-Suit and see everyone has assembled in Xavier's office.
"What's going on," I ask
Xavier said, "We need all hands on deck the Brotherhood's planning an attack".
