Chapter 20: X-Force #1
The opening scene, it's early morning and Peter is walking into Charles Xavier's office. He opens the door and sees Jean sitting in front of Xavier's desk talking to the professor.
"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to interrupt," I said closing the door.
"No, Peter please come in I assume you wouldn't come unless it was important," Xavier said. I stepped into the room and sat down in the chair across from Jean.
"Have you decided on joining yet?" Jean asked curiously.
"I have decided I'll join, under one condition," I say assuredly.
"What condition is that," Xavier asks.
"That we prioritize life above all else meaning that we save lives on missions not take them no matter the person or circumstance," I say. Jean and Xavier look at each other for a second Jean look worried, but Xavier only smiles and says. "Deal we leave early tomorrow morning". I stay for a few more minutes to discuss the mission plan we leave early before the sun rises and head to Vietnam there is a small village next to a mountain that is being terrorized by the government's military. All mutants there are either killed or taken from their families and forced to fight for them. Our job would be to help immigrate the mutants to better lives in America and covertly keep the military away.
"How are three people supposed to covertly fight a foreign military," I ask.
"With two things a great plan and superpowers," Jean said confidently.
"We said before the village is blocked off by a mountain if you and I work together we can cause a rockslide specifically blacking the army's path of access to this town while Logan loads up the villagers in the blackbird for safe travel" Jean continued. It sounded like a solid plan if nothing unexpected happened this should be easy and most importantly no confrontation was involved so little to no chance of death. I smile and say "Alright what time do we leave".
****************Next Day************
Jean walks into my room and wakes me up early that morning. I begrudgingly get up and put on my costume and meet Logan and Jean at the hangar. Logan straps into the pilot seat and flies us to Vietnam. Jean makes sure we both know the plan and drills us on what we're supposed to do if the plan derails. Logan is just supposed to fly the plan and make sure all the villagers who want to leave come aboard while Jean and I are supposed to start landslides that Jean telekinetically controls to specifically block the paths of the army. During the last hour of flight, I decide to make small talk with Logan asking if he's been to Vietnam before.
"Yeah, last time I was here assholes dropped napalm on me," Logan said annoyed.
"Napalm the stuff used during the Vietnam war," I ask.
"That's the one" Logan confirms.
"Wait if you were a soldier during the war you'd have to be at least in your late 60's," I say doing the math in my head.
"Ha I'm much older than that kid I've been around for god knows how long" Logan said giving a thousand-yard stare.
"How are you that old and still alive," I ask
"Healing factor dramatically slows down the aging process not even a hundred percent sure I can die," Logan says. I sit in silence and process the fact that one of my teammates is a semi-immortal super solider.
"Were here" Logan breaks the silence and lands on top of the mountain. Jean and I get off and quickly get to work.
"Peter the boulders here are less sturdy," Jean said pointing towards some jagged stones. I push them and they easily fall causing a chain reaction blocking the path down below. Just as I'm about to start another landslide my spider-sense goes off. I flip in the air and narrowly avoid a blast of fire. I see John with what looks to be flamethrowers attached to his arms.
"What are you doing here!" I say surprised.
"Magneto sent us here to kill some humans, but to my surprise, I get to kill you too Spider," John says blasting more fire towards Jean and I. Jean takes control of the fire and sends it back at John when my spider-sense activates and I catch a blur coming towards us. I vibro blast the ground ahead and see Pietro fall on the ground and Wanda somehow lands safely on the ground wearing heels. I think quick and send another vibro blast at John or Pyro as he liked to be called now put him out so Jean and I can focus on the Maximoff twins. (Peter we have to end this fight quickly). Jean telepathically told me. (Can't you knock them out with your psychic powers) I think back. (No not with Wanda's probability control stopping me this has to be an actual fist-fight I'm afraid) Jean thought back. Pietro managed to get up and rushed at me. I barely managed to avoid him thanks to my spider-sense, but Pietro still got the upper hand and managed to trip me. Pietro quickly got on top of me and super-speed punched me.
"I'm gonna squash you like the bug you are," Pietro said as he pummeled me. He suddenly flew off me and I see Jean raising her hand in my direction. Then the mountain shook like it was a volcano about to erupt. Jean used her powers to try to stop it but she was distracted fighting Wanda. The ground cracked and rocks and debris were flying towards us I grabbed John and Pietro who were unconscious and made a web ball protecting the three of us. Once the earth stopped moving and everything went silent I ripped open the ball to see we were all somehow alright.
"You alright" Jean looked over to me and asked. Wanda was sitting on the ground exhausted.
"Yeah, what happened," I ask looking around the rocks look like they moved around us creating a perfectly spherical bubble that protected us from the debris.
"I was able to shield us at the last minute good thinking with the web ball by the way," Jean said proudly.
"Thanks, I aim to please" I respond. "Can you dig us out?" I ask.
"That would be difficult" she responded. "The debris isn't settled I would not only have to move the rock above but contently shift to make sure it doesn't crush us in the process" Jean continued.
"So your useless" Pietro stood up and said.
"It's your emotional sister's fault for even causing this mess," Jean said with venom in her voice.
"What did you say about my sister," Pietro said as he glared at Jean.
"Ok everybody calm down we could all be stuck here for a while and our fighting will only hurt us, in the long run, does anyone have any ideas that could actually help us," I said calmly.
"Maybe I could help," Wanda said weakly from the corner. "If Jean can move the earth I could lower its chances of it crushing us I'm not completely sure it would work, but it's an idea". Pietro walked over to his sister.
"Are you sure you can do this" Pietro asked his sister.
"Would you stop coddling her she's an Omega level mutant that can alter probability if she says she can do it, she can do it" Jean said assuredly. Pietro just glared at her while Wanda walked towards Jean.
"Give me a minute to concentrate and we can begin," Wanda said as her hands started to glow. I felt a rumbling in the earth and the ground started to move the debris started to levitate and Jean and Wanda stood in the center with their eyes closed. In a matter of minutes, all of us trapped were out of the landslide and back on top of the mountain.
"You two should work together more often," I say impressed by what they just accomplished.
"Maybe we should," Jean said still looking at Wanda. Wanda just blushed at the awkwardness before Pietro speed away with his sister and John.
"Do we go after them" I walk over to Jean and ask.
"No, leave them be we did what we were supposed to do" Jean replied. Just then the blackbird hovered over the mountain and Jean lifted us both up to it. Inside the blackbird was a dozen or so Vietnamese mutants who were huddled in the back of the plane.
"What happened to you two" Logan asked.
"I'll tell you on the way back," I say
