Chapter 13: Best friend

Grandma Anne was holding a medium-sized metal box. She placed it on the table and gently opened it.

"Her name is Kimi, my best friend. She's an android that holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, she is now broken. It would be great if she can be revived once again." Grandma Anne gently placed the various parts of her beloved robot on the table. Most of the protective outer layer is gone leaving wires and metal frames to be visible.

Enryl was surprised. He's been living on this farm for most of his life but this is the first time he'd seen such a box. And her Grandma actually owns a robot? Isn't a humanoid robot costs a million? He's a little puzzled why they are living a frugal life if her Grandma is rich?

Finnia moved closer, checked each part and said, "This robot seems to have undergone a series of difficult situations. But it's nothing impossible to mend back together."

Then she picked up the chest part and scrutinize it for a bit. After a few moments, she touched some predefined points on its surface. At the moment the last point was touched, a series of clink sounds echoed out. A series of protective layers opened themselves up until finally a square hole the size of the fist is visible in the center of the chest.

Inside the hole is a dull, lifeless, translucent sphere. Finnia carefully pulled it out. As she held it in her hands, she commanded Reeve to deeply scan it. Various lights of LASER can be seen going back and forth on the surface. After a few moments, Reeve shared organized information based on the scan.

Finnia turned to Grandma Anne and said, "This seems to resemble an EMC core. But it seems to be more of a prototype version. What's perplexing is that it seems it was totally out of power. An EMC core is powered by an engine based on antimatter and theoretically can last for at least five hundred years depending on the model. But based on the condition of the materials, this robot was only created around 69 years ago."

Grandma Anne sighed then replied, "We have encountered countless perilous situations that require her to dangerously draw more power. She did it many times to protect me and until finally, she runs out of power. I've tried my best to fix her but nothing worked."

Finnia nodded as she listened. She knows herself it is possible for a core to run out of power just like when she time traveled. Shields draws the most energy especially if countless attacks of considerable power hit it continuously. Much more for a prototype robot that hasn't yet undergone a series of upgrades to improve its use of power.

She then sent her nanites to repair the circuitry. Some of them were burnt which likely due to overloading and drawing of too much power. It only took a few minutes to repair the bad circuits.

"I will try to power it up now," Finnia said. Holding it on one hand she placed her five fingers on the various contact points and sent a continuous stream of power. This caused the various circuits to be energized and the sphere gave out a weak light green glow. As the core warmed up, she sent the command for refilling the engine fuel and a tiny hole at the top opened up.

Using the forefinger of her other hand, she used it to touch that tiny hole. She generated several subatomic antiparticles at the tip of that finger and by using some spatial techniques, she teleported those antiparticles inside the core's special storage chamber. She kept doing this until that storage is full.

She then sent the command for the startup. But nothing happened.

She tried it again three more times but still the same result. Finnia was baffled. She then asked Reeve to show more detailed info about the status of the core now.

[[ Master, everything is good in this core except for this section on Z634 S545. This data crystal doesn't seem to accept any kind of energy. But from the way it is merged to the circuit, it needs to be powered up before the whole core can startup. ]]

Finnia then tried several kinds of energy towards that data crystal. But it seems that there's something stopping anything from getting close to it. She had never seen anything like this before. She also tried to use the Silka energy but although it provides some very little reaction, it wasn't able to power the data crystal.

"Grandma Anne, we only need to power up some kind of data crystal inside the core but it seems that something is preventing any energy to touch it," Finnia revealed the situation to Grandma Anne. This core should already be starting up but it wasn't. It's quite baffling for her and she is running out of ideas.

"Can I hold it for a bit?" Grandma Anne asked.

Finnia carefully handed it over.

Grandma Anne holds it as if she is holding her very precious child. Kimi has been with her ever since she was a small kid and they have many precious memories together. She knows there's a connection with her and Kimi. She felt it many times before.

Grandma Anne closed her eyes and hold the core closer to her heart. She reminisced all the good times and remembered how she loved her little robot from the bottom of her heart.

Finnia noticed an intense blinding light pouring from Grandma's head down to the base of her spine. She was surprised. This happened with Enryl back then as well. Her Silka core started to absorb the energy being emitted by the light.

As this is happening, Grandma Anne eyes started to tear up with all the emotion. No matter what, she's happy that Kimi has been part of her life. And a tear dropped to the core she is holding in her hands.

As soon as it made contact with the core, the data crystal shines with a bright green glow and made the core to shine with intense light.

Finnia and Enryl who are witnessing everything have their mouth wide open.
