Chapter 7: 7. Figuring It Out
Zander's POV:
I unload my buggy putting knives in a duffle bag then put it in the back of the truck. I fill up another duffle bag with guns along with amo to match. I can't help but feel like I've hit the lottery. These weapons, clothes, tools, and food make me surviving this zombie apocalypse easier. Plus I have Marie. As long as shes with me my survival is secure.
It's crazy how in one day my whole world is flipped upside down and even though I've lost everything, everyone, I'm still here. Still breathing. Wow.
"Boo." I jump hearing Marie whisper in my right ear. "So the trailer is completely full and I am ready to go." She says as I turn around and see her toss heavy luggage in the back of the truck. "You know now that I think about it, it's funny I grew up broke and never had anything to my name. Then I turned into a vampire and zombies took over. Now I can have anything I want. From now on I can get whatever I want and do whatever I want." Marie says smiling at me then pushes me up against the truck. She runs her tongue from my collar bone up my neck to my ear making my knees go weak. "Do you want to know what I want now?" Marie says letting her lips tickle my ear as she speaks. I shutter and feel goose bumps. "Wha, what do you want?" I stutter, trembling as my heart flutters in my chest.
"Right now I want us to pick a home. Would you rather be in the country or in town?" She asks as she runs her fingers across my arm seductively. I lose my breath and look down at our feet trying to figure out what I want. Hmmmm...think, think now, she's wearing boots so I'm guessing she would prefer the country. Living in the countryside would probably be more survivable then living in a town. "In the country." I say quickly. "Great choice. I know the perfect place. Get in. I'll go get the others." She says then takes a step back winking at me. She suddenly disappears. I stumble forward. Holy cow that was intense. How can a woman make me feel like this? My face is hot and probably red. Jeez I'm a lucky man.
I climb in the truck in the front seat and get comfortable. Shortly afterwards Marie opens the driver door and jumps in. The door behind me opens then shuts as Nikki and her daughter Sylia get in the back seat. "So where are we going?" Nikki asks as Maria starts the truck up. Marie smirks as she starts to drive. "This house I used to clean when I was 19. Let me tell ya'll this house is a mansion on 100 acres of land with a 10 foot rock wall all the way around it. There's a pond stocked with fish, over 20 acres of farm land, cows, horses, pigs, and chickens. We can survive and thrive there. It'll be like paradise."
"It sounds ideal to me." Nikki says quickly. "Yes it does. How long do you think it'll take for us to get there?" I ask looking out the window while watching a zombie eating a person in the ditch as we drive by. My face pales and I hold in the urge to throw up. Thank goodness I'm not that person being ate alive. I shiver.
"It's 2 hours from here so y'all get comfortable. " Marie states then turns on the radio. All we hear is static until she changes the station. "Stay indoors folks. It's like a nightmare outside. People are eating people like a fat chick eats cake. It's a dark World out there folks. God only knows how many people are actually alive now. This is Gary Jones I'm locked up at the 107.6 Studios on North Street in down town Little Rock, Arkansas. Possibly the last person alive in this building. I've blocked off all the windows and doors. I have enough food and water to last for a while. I will broadcast until the last generator here at the studio shuts off. If anyone out there is listening you can get in touch with me through our website and phone number. Stay indoors folks until the government steps in. Last thing I was told from the Sheriff if we can last a few days our military will be sweeping the streets killing these things, well i guess zombies. They will rescue anyone in need. Please stay tuned folks there is hope. Stay safe and stay tuned. In the meantime I will play music and keep you people updated with anything I hear. This is Gary Jones, may this music distract you from the horrors of this new world." The man on the radio cuts out then all we hear is static. A few seconds later a song comes on and I can't help but feel sick to my stomach.
Everyone in the truck is silent as we all sulk and cope in our own ways with the truth of what's going on in the world. We may end up being the last of man kind unless Marie can protect us and we save more people. I hope this place is as safe and survivable as she said. After we make this place even safer we need to find more survivors and go from there. With Marie on our side we are set no matter what, I hope.
