Chapter 8: Wolf Boss

The wolves didn't do anything and simply stared at Vergil while growling. Although they wanted to get revenge for their fallen comrades, they didn't want to fall for the enemies bait.

After waiting for a while, Vergil noticed his bait hadn't worked and instead decided to keep throwing arrows. He picked up the arrow he had thrown from the dead wolves eye and threw it at one of the wolves feet.

The arrow he had thrown lodged itself into one of the wolves ankles, and the wolf howled in pain as blood oozed out. Vergil planned to hit the wolves on their feet so they wouldn't be able to help out their comrades when it came time to counterattack.

Vergil was about to grab another arrow before he saw a group of three wolves charging at him. Vergil was surprised since he thought the wolves would only be focusing on protecting their loved ones right now.

Although Vergil wanted to know the reason why they had charged at him, he couldn't, as the wolves were to fast and focusing on anything but the battle at hand would mean certain death. Vergil immediately grabbed Ryujin Jakka and stabbed the wolf that was nearest to him straight in its chest.

The wolf was skewered onto Ryujin Jakka and let out a howl as its organs were pierced. The other wolves took advantage of the fact that Vergil was busy with one of them and bit towards his sides. Vergil, already having this happen to him once before, simply backed away with the wolf still attached to his staff.

The wolves seemingly surprised by Vergil's quick movements growled at him before changing their course of plan. Vergil noticed this and quickly knocked the wolf off his staff and got into a semi fighting stance.

This time, the wolves were planning on rushing him from different sides at different intervals of time. One of the wolves would charge at him from one side and the other wolf would wait a bit before charging at him too. They thought this plan would work as they thought Vergil would be too preoccupied with one of them to notice the other.

Thinking their plan was foolproof, the first wolf charged at Vergil. He was aiming at Vergil's leg this time, as Vergil would become incapacitated if his main source of movement was taken out.

The wolf bit at Vergil's leg only to have noticed it had bitten on to nothing. Vergil had anticipated what the wolf was aiming for and simply waited for the right moment to move his leg out of the way. Vergil used the fact that the wolf was in a semi dazed state from the dodge and smashed its head in with Ryujin Jakka.

The wolf immediately died as his skull dug into his brain. Vergil didn't have time to celebrate his victory though, as the other wolf was charging at him from his back. Instead of using its jaws, the wolf determined that using its claws which had longer range, would be better in this situation as the enemy seemed to be a melee fighter.

Vergil noticed the sudden change in attack and waited for the right moment to strike. As soon as the wolf was 6 inches away from him, Vergil grabbed the wolf's leg and with Ryujin Jakka, stabbed deep into its head as it had done with the others.

The wolf-like many others stopped all body movements and fell to the ground lifelessly, not even knowing what had happened to it. Vergil took out his Ryujin Jakka from the wolf's head and slashed it to the side, to get the blood it had accumulated off of it. He sat down putting Ryujin Jakka to the side. He took a quick breather as he stared directly at the pack of wolves in front of him.

7 wolves were remaining, one of which was incapacitated due to the arrow Vergil had shot. He studied them for a bit before calmly getting up, taking off some of the mud and leaves he still had on him. Now that he had been found out, there was no reason for him to have the mud or leaves on him as it just made him uncomfortable.

Vergil grabbed Ryujin Jakka and calmly made his way over to the remaining pack of wolves. Now that Vergil had identified most of the wolves strategies, he was feeling a lot calmer and felt as if he could take on this pack of wolves with ease.

The wolves noticed how calm he was and for the first time in their lives, they felt fear. Being one of the most dominant predators in these woods meant that the wolves could easily kill anything they came across if they planned accordingly.

The wolves thought that if they just did what they had done in the past then they could easily win, but the man before them took all those thoughts and shoved them in the trash.

They had tried using numbers to their advantage and even used tactics that they would normally reserve for the hardest of prey, but no matter what they did, this man managed to stop all of their plans.

Now, as they saw the man slowly walking up to them, the wolves couldn't help but make a slow growl as they prepared for the worst. A few moments later, Vergil was within pouncing range.

The wolves became immensely terrified and immediately activated their last most desperate plan. To save the future generations, the wolves would send the ones behind them away as they battled their last battle against this enemy.

They set the plan into motion and one of the wolves howled at the ones behind him. The wolves in the circle realized what was happening and ran full speed away from the camp. Some of them weren't very fast as they were children so they had to be carried by the others.

"Sending the ones behind them away ey? Smart." Vergil said to himself as he stood still. Time seemed to freeze as the wolves stared at him and he stared back. Finally, the wolves couldn't wait anymore and circled Vergil. Vergil was trapped, trapped inside the circle as the wolves eyed him from all sides.

This was a technique that they usually used when facing large animals such as moose and the like. Vergil simply stood there, waiting for the wolves to make the first move. The wolves though he had become scared and used this to their advantage as they all leaped at him. Vergil was quick though and grabbed one of the wolves feet.

He held the wolf firmly by his feet making sure to not let go no matter what. Vergil then proceeded to go around in a circle as he held onto the wolf, sending the wolves that were pouncing at him flying.

The wolf after being used as some sort of weapon ended up breaking many bones as it had crashed into its comrades. The other wolves who had been sent flying also broke some bones and became dazed, due to the sheer impact of their comrade.

Not wasting any time, Vergil took Ryujin Jakka and killed the wolf nearest to him by stabbing it straight in its head. The wolf died a meaningless death, as his comrades couldn't do anything to take advantage of the time he had created for them.

The wolves were in too much pain to even get up, they just sat on their sides, waiting for their inevitable death. Vergil made his way over the other wolves killing them one by one. Eventually, the only one left was the wolf that he had thrown an arrow at. The wolf, feeling extremely sad and useless as he couldn't even attack the enemy, drooped his head waiting for the enemy to kill it.

Vergil saw this and also felt some pity as he realized how sad this situation seemed. He wasted no time in granting the wolf's wish though, as he stabbed it straight in its head, offering him a painless death as the only sort of mercy he could offer.

Vergil glanced around for a bit, making sure that no enemy wolves were still around. He had killed all of the enemy wolves except for the ones that had run away. Vergil sat down limply as he was extremely tired from the encounter. Although he hadn't suffered any injuries or even scratches, Vergil was extremely exhausted, as this was the first time he had ever done this sort of thing before.

He sat there for a while contemplating what to do next before his senses went into overdrive. He noticed a presence and an extremely dangerous one at that. Vergil looked to his side and saw the big wolf he had seen earlier, its face showing extreme anger as it looked at Vergil. Vergil was terrified, he had been wondering why he had not received any levels or a [Mission Complete!]. It became very obvious as to why he hadn't now though. This was the boss of the wolf camp, the final boss.

Vergil wondered why the boss hadn't shown up earlier and realized that it was probably off hunting somewhere, shown by the fact that it had a stack of deers to its right. As to why it was angered, Vergil probably guessed it was because he had killed off the wolves that had been granting and offering him food.

Vergil had no time to think after that though, as the wolf immediately charged at him with its large horn, its overbearing speed evident. Vergil tried to dodge and was almost successful if it wasn't for the fact that the wolf had clawed at his back, leaving a large claw mark on it. "AGHHHHH" Vergil screamed out as the wolves claws were extremely sharp and his skin was easily cut like paper.

Vergil laid down on the ground as the pain would not stop. The wolf gave no time for Vergil to recuperate though, as he immediately began his assault once more. Vergil noticed the wolf from the corner of his eye and noticed that it was about to pounce at him. Thinking fast, Vergil laid on his back with Ryujin Jakka facing upwards. As soon as the wolf pounced towards Vergil, instead of receiving a delicious snack, it was instead met with pain, as Ryujin Jakka had cut its abdomen.

"AWOOOOOOOOOOOOO" the wolf howled, as blood oozed out from its lower body. Vergil wasted no time and immediately ran to the woods. He had no choice, as fighting the big wolf head-on was not possible since its claws were sharp and its speed was like a raging bullet. Vergil hid in a nearby shrub, putting some more dirt on him as he hoped the wolf wouldn't be able to smell his location.

Vergil gawked at his back for a while, making sure he didn't suffer too heavy of a blow. He noticed it wasn't serious right now but realized if he didn't heal the wound soon, he would probably bleed out. Vergil peeked out from the shrub only to noticed the big wolf trying to smell something, its previous injury now gone, probably due to its fast regeneration.

Vergil realized the wolf was probably trying to find him and immediately went back into hiding. Vergil though for a bit before finally coming up with a plan. First, he would need to wait for the wolf to come near him though.

He waited for a while before peeking again, only to find the wolf was almost a foot away from him. Vergil needed to act now and fast because if the wolf did find him, he would get clawed into tiny meat slices. Vergil immediately grabbed Ryujin Jakka, that he had taken with him earlier when running into the woods, and prepared himself. When the wolf was within breathing distance, Vergil chanted out the words [Devastating Slash!]. His Rujin Jakka glowed as the wolf's head was cut in half from the sheer power of the slash.

Blood spurted out everywhere, as Vergil was forced to cover his face to prevent it from getting in his eyes. Once the aftermath was done, Vergil felt relieved. He was happy he was able to put his [Warrior] skill to good use. The only reason he hadn't used it before, was because of the taxing cost and the fact that he could easily just slash the wolves without much effort.

Vergil inspected the big wolf for a bit before finally getting a system notification

Writing the actual story can sometimes be difficult but i'd say writing about what Vergil spends his points on and writing down his current stats as well as how he uses his skills is probably the hardest part. Next chapter might come out later than usual, not sure.
