Chapter 9: Diagon Alley

This was the first time they had gone to Diagon Alley, and Mrs. Williams deliberately brought a lot of money to buy school supplies for Edward. She doesn't want her son to lack something.

Seeing this Edward just smiled, he also needed money to buy lots of books later. The knowledge he knows about the world of Harry Potter is very limited to the books he read before he reincarnated. So the books he will buy later will definitely be very useful for him.

They drove the car, his mother sat in front with his father, while Edward sat in the back with Professor McGonagall.

On the way, Edward felt bored so he asked Professor McGonagall with curiosity

"Professor, how did you get to my house? Do you use a broomstick, flying carpet, or ... something else?" He knows the answer, he just wants his parents to know.

Sure enough to hear Edward's question, his mother immediately turned her gaze back, while his father also listened while riding.

"Oh, I use apparition, but there are also wizards and witchs who use the things you mentioned before" answered Professor McGonagall patiently.

"Apparition?" asked my mother confusedly.

"Apparition is an advanced spell used by fully trained witches and wizards to disappear from one place and appear almost instantly somewhere else" explained Professor McGonagall.

"Isn't that like teleportation?" said Mr. Williams while driving.

"Yes, muggles often say that" nodded Professor McGonagall.

"Non-magic" muttered Edward.

"Doesn't that mean our dear Ed can do it too?" said Mrs. Williams excited.

"No, if he is not fully trained, it will cause him to leave part of his body in place, it is called splinced, and that is very dangerous" said Professor McGonagall strictly.

"Oh, my God"

Mrs. Williams was surprised to hear that.

Seeing his mother like that, Edward comforted her

"Mom, I'm a new student, so there's no way I can learn it now. Right, Professor?"

"Apparition will only be learned when they are in their sixth year" nodded Professor McGonagall and add, "Also they will be supervised by the ministry for those who are underage, so that those who do not have a license are not permitted to make apparition". Hearing that, Mrs. Williams began to calm down.

...

After a few minutes, they arrived at the destination.

They walked towards the narrow and dirty bar.

"I never thought there was a place like this in the city" Mrs. Williams sighed.

"This place is the Leaky Cauldron, this place has a spell of protection and for muggles who don't know the address they won't be able to see it" said Professor McGonagall as she walked and entered the bar. Edward and his parents followed behind.

When they entered, Edward began to look around. For a famous place, this place is very dark and shabby. Edward even saw some old women sitting in a corner, drinking a small glass of sherry. One of them was smoking a long pipe. A little man in a top hat is talking to an old bartender, who is quite bald and looks like gummy walnuts.

Suddenly the old bartender looked at us, and said in a dry voice

"New student Professor?"

"oh, Tom, I will accompany them to buy school supplies" nodded Professor McGonagall.

"Oh..., Muggle-born, I think?" said Tom to Edward.

Edward didn't like the words, so he just raised his eyebrows, and pretended not to know.

Professor McGonagall who saw this immediately answered

"Okay Tom, we are in a hurry".

"Ok, see you Professor and Mr...?" asked Tom laughing.

"Williams" answered Edward as he followed Professor McGonagall to the backyard of the Leaky Cauldron.

There, Professor McGonagall pressed the brick using her wand.

*Zwizzz* the bricks begin to move and change.

Suddenly appeared in front of them a scene from the crowd that filled the road. Many of them wear robes like witches and wizards, and they are very different from modern society.

The buildings here are like in the Middle Ages, Edward saw all this feeling amazed, and he could feel many magical activities here.

"Professor, what will we do now?" said Edward while looking around. He still does not believe that he is finally in Diagon Alley, the economic center of the magic world in London.

"To buy your school supplies, we need a magical world currency. And for that we will go to the bank to exchange muggle currency with the currency of the magic world." answered Professor McGonagall.

"Where is that, Professor?"

"Gringotts" said Professor McGonagall.

...

On the way Professor McGonagall explained to them about gringotts and goblins.

After a few minutes, they finally arrived. Standing before them was an impressive three-story building.

Seeing a large crowd, they quickly rushed into.

They walked up the white stone stairs to the high marble hall. About a dozen goblins sat behind a long table, some counting coins, others were checking gems. Countless doors point to various places, with many goblin guides coming and going.

Professor McGonagall quickly led them to walk in the hall to exchange their money with the currency of the magic world.

Moments later, Edward left the bank carrying a bag full of galleons.

Edward was surprised to see the number of galleons in his hand, it seems like he will buy a lot of books today. Professor McGonagall who saw the bag containing the galleon was also shocked, she did not expect that the muggle family she had come to was apparently rich.

"Professor, what will we buy first?" asked Edward eagerly.

Seeing their son, Mr. and Mrs. Williams could only smile and shake their head. Since knowing the existence of magic, it seems like he is always excited.

"Because you don't have a wand, we will buy it first" said Professor McGonagall smiling.

'finally, my wand' Edward thought.
