When they arrived at Madam Malkin's shop, they were greeted by a witch dressed all in mauve, she was Madam Malkin.
"Hogwarts, dear?" said Madam Malkin.
"Ah, yes Ma'am!" answered Edward.
Madam Malkin told Edward to sit in the stool, she wore a long robe over his head and began pinning it to the right length.
"That's you done, my dear"
After a few minutes, they came out of Madam Malkin's shop.
They began to buy other items in the school supply list.
They walked along the rocky road, and entered almost every shop. Edward bought a cauldron, crystal phials, a telescope, and a brass scale. At Slug and Jiggers Apothecary he purchased a standard dose of herbs which was used for the first-grade potions class. He also bought a Magical Quill, ink, and parchment.
When they passed the Magical Menagerie. They just looked for a while then left. Edward does not need a pet other than an owl now, and an owl can also be used to send letters to his parents later. Therefore they went straight to the Eeylops Owl Emporium.
Arriving at the Eeylops Owl Emporium, they saw that it was quite dark inside, maybe because the owl was a night creature. Outside the store, various colors and species of owls hang inside the cage, watching all pedestrians.
Looking around, Edward did not find an owl that he thought was good.
Suddenly in the corner of the shop, Edward saw an owl whose cage was far from the other owls.
Looking closer, the owl is somewhat different from the others, the owl has bright green eyes and a rather small size from the other owls.
Seeing the owl, Edward became interested and walked to the woman in a black robe and blonde hair. She is an employee here.
"Why is the owl there? Does nobody buy it?" asked Edward, while pointing at the owl.
"Oh, the owl suddenly came to this shop a month ago. Every time someone will buy it, he will peck at them. That's why I put the owl there" seeing someone interested in the owl, she explained happily, "The owl is Screech Owl. Screech owls are extremely agile and regularly feast on rabbits, voles, rats, mice and reptiles. So you don't need to worry about the food".
Hearing the shop employee's explanation, Edward became more interested in the owl. He arrived in front of the owl cage. Both humans and owls stare at each other.
Suddenly Edward extended his finger to the owl.
"Edward ... !!!" shouted Mrs. Williams.
"It's okay mom, look!"
When Mrs. Williams saw it, apparently the owl did not peck as the shop employee said, and instead rubbed his head against Edward's finger.
"Looks like you will go with me" smiled Edward. And remove the owl from the cage.
"I will take him!" said Edward to the shop employee.
"Ah, thank you, sir" she said happily.
"Looks like I have to give you a name, hmm ..." said Edward, looking at the owl on his shoulder, "Hermes! yes because you are fast, your name now is Hermes".
Hearing his name, the owl stood proudly on Edward's shoulder.
After paying and also buying food for Hermes. Edward, his parents, and Professor McGonagall went to buy other school supplies.
After a few minutes, they arrived at the next place, Flourish & Blotts, where most Hogwarts students bought their school books.
There Edward only saw a few visitors, he relaxed a little. Luckily he came now where students are still on vacation and the signing of Lockhart's book has not been held.
He didn't want to be seen by many people when he would buy a lot of books later. He also didn't want to see the damn Lockhart with his smile. He doesn't know why, but every time he smiles, he wants to hit his face.
After setting foot in the shop, Edward and his parents began to look around.
Flourish and Blotts is filled to the brim with books. Shelves upon shelves line the walls, from ceiling to floor. The books are of all sizes and different verities. There is in fact so many books that various signs are posted throughout the shop, as a means of helping customers find what they need. The front windows usually contain displays of gold-embossed spellbooks the size of paving slabs.
Seeing a large collection of books, Edward began to see them one by one from beginners to advanced. He knew what dangers he would face in the future, especially when he was younger than Harry Potter and his friends, he didn't want to at least be weaker than them in terms of spells and magic.
Considering he was muggle-born. Neither Death Eaters nor Umbridge will let off of him in the future if Voldemort succeeds in his resurrection. He didn't want his parents to be in danger, much less having to go like Hermione's parents.
Even though he already knew a few spells from his past while reading or watching Harry Potter. But now it's different, here is the real world especially because he hasn't learned about magic at all, he doesn't know the essence of magic itself. Therefore he must use his time to expand his knowledge of magic.
Soon Edward wrote a list of the books he was going to buy including a book on Curses and Counter-Curses by Professor Vindictus Viridian, because he thought the book was very useful later. He also bought many advanced books.
He did not show the list of books he bought to Professor McGonagall. He didn't want Professor McGonagall to misunderstand and criticize him about the book he chose.
"Seeing you excited with lots of books, makes me remember one of Hogwarts students, and she is the best student this year." suddenly said Professor McGonagall, "Her name is Hermione Granger, she's also like you, muggle-born. She's at the Gryffindor house, I'm sure you can be friends with each other at Hogwarts".
Hearing what Professor Mcgonagall said, Edward's eyes began to twitch.
Edward didn't believe Professor McGonagall would say that in front of his parents. He was sure that after returning from Diagon Alley, his mother would immediately call the Granger family.
'I don't plan to meet Hermione now, but it seems my parents won't let it. They will definitely ask a lot about Hogwarts to Hermione. Hopefully she doesn't talk about the things that make my parents worried' Edward thought.
