Chapter 3: My Girlfriend is a Huge Gaming Nerd I
Celestial Impact.
It's an open-world game, supposedly made for mobile, but the company also decides to release it on other platforms such as PauseStation, PC, and somewhere in the foreseeable future, Lintunda Controller.
And as to be expected, the early day of game release didn't earn them too much hype.
It's a free game, yet why are people still hesitating?
It's simple, gambling, or to be more exact microtransactions, also known as Gacha.
There have been many predecessors of more widely known microtransactions games, and it was all on mobile. Perhaps, there are a few examples on other platforms, but I don't know much about them so I can't really say much about it.
Anyway, of them all, most were known to be very merciless to the players.
To name a few, Date Grand Order, or DGO for short.
Because the percentage of the drop rate for acquiring useful character is certainly abysmal low that players more often referred to as non-existent, it's given that players will have to invest their real money if they truly wanted to get their favorite character jpg.
In extreme cases, some even willingly starved themselves for months because they end up using their entire saving money supposedly mean for food.
That's just how scary a microtransactions game could do to people.
But one might say, if they control themselves, it won't be a problem.
Unfortunately, even those people end up investing quite a bit of their money since they had already fallen too deep in the game to discard it.
And right now, I'm seeing one such fine example ahead of me.
"Argh! Why is it this nun girl again?! How many times have I got her duplicate? What I wanted is the guy on the banner! I have been saving enough for a soft pity for a few months, and yet!"
In front of me, the girl fuming on her bed while glaring deathly at her tablet is none other than my nerd girlfriend.
She has unkempt ocean-blue hair, mesmerizing golden eyes stuck on a face that won't disappoint an idol, and lastly, she still in her cute bunny pajama.
I'm not really complaining since it suits her a lot.
With a wry smile, I slowly sneak behind her before wrapping my arms around her and resting my chin on her shoulders as I say, "What got you so work out now?"
She wasn't surprised when I suddenly pulled her into my embrace. Instead, she pouts before showing me the screen of her tablet. What I saw was a banner with a guy standing tall with a falling meteor on his back, seems like a cool dude I'd say.
Then my eyes wandered upward where the currency of the game usually be and recalled the knowledge I had about the game, and shortly judged it wasn't a small amount at all.
She had been playing this game since the beginning of its released, so I knew a bit about it.
The currency of this game is called a primordial star, or primo for short.
And you can earn it mostly by completing the commission, opening a chest, and more.
But the amount given to the players is...one might even say the game developer is too stingy with their reward.
"You still have a lot primo saved up, there's still a chance of you getting this character when you reach pity," I muttered after completing my analysis of the situation, and concluded that she was just tilted that she have to waste more of her primordial star to get her desired character.
"But!"
"How about I pull it for you?" I suggested. I don't really play games that much, if I did it would be for my girlfriend's sake. She often complaints about how she didn't have that many friends online to help her with a quest, yet she didn't want to befriend people because she's such a shy little cinnamon.
And I would be there to assist even though I'm not really that good at the game.
Though, my girlfriend might have a different opinion and often wanted to play together with me ever since I helped her once.
"Really?! I REALLY wanted this character, you see! His voice actor sounds so charming and all! Furthermore, he is undoubtedly a powerful character!" She answered me vigorously and continue babbling about the character details, such as what he was known in the lore, how useful his ability, and more.
Yes, this is just how big of a gaming nerd my girlfriend is.
I have been with her for years now, I'm used to it.
If only she could put this much motivation into studying too, that would be great.
But unfortunately, study and she are like oil to water, they don't mix well.
But I wonder why she was so excited about me pulling for her? As far as I know, my luck isn't bad, but neither it is good.
I'd say average, but well, if she's so optimistic with me, I'll do my best to get the character she wanted.
With my eyes closed, I offer a small prayer to the God above.
Please bestow me your blessing so that I could earn a smile and appreciation from my lifelong partner.
I don't know if I got any blessing, but my heart sure calmed down a lot.
I slowly opened my eyes and could see my girlfriend still blabbering about the character's charming points and so on, honestly, it would be a lie to say I'm not jealous.
But I knew very well that no matter how much she likes the character, she still holds me dearly inside her heart.
To begin with, I like this particular side of her.
She was always enthusiastic about games and the things she loves, personally, that side of her is just so cute.
"Alright, I will pull it now." My statements immediately brought her back to reality, and she leaned closer to me in heartbeat. With this much distance, I could already smell her sweats. She rarely uses perfume at home, so what am I smelling right now is her natural sweat, I'd say not bad.
"You smell good," I muttered sincerely, but I earned a painful pinch from my side and glare from her.
I knew she'd be mad if I were to tell her that, I did it anyway because her pouting face is simply cute.
Anyway, back to the game.
Since there's an increased chance of acquiring the character she wanted with 10 pulls, I decided to go with that then.
Without any suspense, I pressed my finger on the 10 pulls, the same banner with the cool-looking dude and a meteor at his back, and then, the game began showing me the falling meteors.
What my girlfriend wanted is a 5 stars character, and the meteor that signaled 5 stars will be colored in gold which was what I was expecting to see.
I didn't know if I was really lucky, but I do saw a gold amidst the blue meteors, and as expected, she was thrilled.
As usual for the first exposures only showed weaponry such as spear, sword, and magic book.
All of them are rated as 3 stars which either will be collecting dust in her inventory or be used as a material to level up another more powerful weapon.
After about 7 showcasing of weapons, the real show finally popped up.
When I saw the gold amidst the blue meteors moment ago, I also catch one piece of purple color which is a sign of a 4 stars character or weapon.
And the big reveal shows, it's another nun girl duplicate!
"Ugh!" My girlfriend visibly frowned upon seeing a familiar character, but her mouth went a gap when she saw the next reveal. Spoiler alert, it's golden.
Hmm, this voice...it's pretty deep, and not going to lie, I kinda like it.
My girlfriend on the other hand though...
"Kyaaaa! Y-You got him! Oh no, what do I do?! I'm just so excited! Aaaaah, I love you!" She was so delightful to the point she didn't mind kissing me all over my face, showing me how much she loves me, well, my luck to be exact but.
She's not the type to do this high level of skinship so easily, she would get so embarrassed otherwise.
But who am I to complain?
