Chapter 3: Limited Ressources

Arthur arrived at the Steel Village , well more like he popped out of nowhere but the NPCs didn't seem to be bothered by it .

' Maybe the realism of the NPCs is lower than I hoped ? ' thought Arthur .

What he didn't know yet is that the NPCs were all already told of the arrival of the players , or what they call the God's chosen by telepathic message sent by the various gods in the lore . The multiple powerhouses already thought of ways of using the immortality of the players for their own gain , multiple small kingdoms already hoped of being able to defeat the Vaenith Empire in the Western Continent by using the players , while the residents of the Eastern Continent and the Holy Empire were wary of the players and what they could bring to the table .

The first thing that Arthur did was to check his status .

He was also given some bread and a couple of pouches of water as the game requires you to eat and drink but substance or taste can be toggled on or off in the settings .

Arthur didn't have money , nor a weapon therefore he realized that he needed to kill a monster barehanded and sell it to start his journey , or that there was a way that he didn't know about . He first decided to explore the village that was actually quite huge compared to his exceptations and noticed that there was only a few players , that looked like they didn't know what to do in the village . Compared to NPCs where you couldn't see anything about them , players could recognize each other because they had a blue sphere hanging above them . He counted 16 players in the same village as him and none of them were doing anything , they were talking to each other or just moving around exclaiming how awesome was the virtual reality .

Arthur decided to ignore them and started sprinting towards another street . 15 minutes later Arthur visited the whole village and noticed that there was indeed stamina in the game , it just wasn't numerized like the other stats and therefore you could only figure it out by testing , fortunately , his in-game stamina was close to his real life stamina thus Arthur had already a good grasp of his capabilities . While he was sightseeing the village , he didn't forget to check if there was any hidden quest that could earn him money without having to fight monsters but apparently that wasn't the case so he headed to the gate of the village in order to fight monsters . What he didn't know was that players were recommended to stay in the village for 10 to 20 minutes in order to familiarize themselves with the game mechanics and after this time interval they were given a basic club each to fight monsters . Unfortunately this was written in a message sent by the devs and Arthur didn't check his messages .

Arthur decided against going too far out of the village because he didn't have a map or the strength required to fight higher leveled monsters , nor did he know what kind of monsters were hiding deep in the forest that surrounds the Steel village . After walking around a bit , he encountered his first target , a very basic mob in the world of MMORPGs , a rabbit . It seemed quite stronger than real life rabbits and his red eyes could provoke fear in low level players when facing tens of them . Arthur realized that not being able to check the name or the stats of the monsters or NPCs was quite problematic and he hoped that he could get some sort of appraisal skill as early as possible . He decided to sneak behind the rabbit , a mouvement that the keen and fast monster didn't miss as he immediatly turned around and dashed towards Arthur when he was around 10 meters away from the rabbit . Mentally noting the awareness range of the monster , Arthur easily dodged the attack of the red-eyed rabbit and caught him mid air and started to strangle it . After a few seconds , the rabbit stopped moving and Arthur heard a notification .

System : Lvl 1 Red-Eyed Rabbit killed . Obtained 1 EXP .

Arthur started frowning when he saw the EXP he gained . He needed 100 EXP to level up to level 1 , so he needed to kill a hundred of these . He realized the EXP gained from killing monster was exactly the level of the monster , he only hoped that the EXP gained would increase along their level instead of this system as it would prove to be too hard to level up later on . Shaking these thoughts out of his mind , he immediatly searched for other Red-Eyed Rabbits .

15 minutes later , he easily had more than 50 kills under his belt and he had 23 Red-Eyed rabbit fur in his bag . He noticed that players were actually not given a spatial bag and he guessed that they must be quite expensive so he had to get back to the village to sell what the monsters dropped before continuing .

' I hope that I will be able to buy a weapon with this because it's really not efficient to kill monsters bare handed at my level . ' thought Arthur .

Arriving in front of a reseller in the village , he sold his gains for 23 copper coins and went to the blacksmith to check the price of a basic one-handed sword . The price for the worst one-handed sword was 1 silver coin , or 100 copper coins , he immediatly headed back to the forest in order to continue his farm but he noticed players marching towards his previous farming spot with wooden clubs in their hand . He didn't think that other players would be able to buy a weapon yet so he thought that something special must have happened and considering the fact that over 10 players possessed the weapons , it wouldn't be some sort of hidden quests .He checked his message and , sighting , equipped the wooden club given by the devs and dashed towards another farming point . He knew that in MMORPGs , ressources were limited so he didn't hope to farm as efficiently as before with 10 players near him . What he didn't know was that the situation was even worse than he thought as these 10 players won't be able to find a single Red-Eyed Rabbit in a hour .

System : Lvl 1 Red-Eyed Rabbit killed . Obtained 1 EXP

Congratulation , User ' Steel ' has leveled up to level 1

Obtained 5 Free Attribute Points .

Arthur checked his status before putting +2 in AGI , +2 in STR and +1 in END .

Satisfied with this long farming period , he checked the time and noticed he still had about 14 hours left before 9 pm when he would have to leave the game in order to eat as the S ranked food provision doesn't allow people to play non stop . The time in ' The New World ' was two times slower than in the real world , therefore 2 hours in the game was 1 hour in real life , allowing players to enjoy a lot more the game . He also realized he needed 200 EXP to level up to 2 so he decided to go deeper in the woods to find other monsters that would give more EXP , but first , he needed a sword .

Even after selling every fur he had , he would still require about 20 copper coins in order to buy the one-handed sword he needed , so he decided to farm a bit more before heading back to the village .

After getting the remaining 21 furs by killing about 40 Red-Eyed Rabbit , he noticed that it was getting harder and harder to find these monsters so he decided to change once more his farming location after buying the sword . Meanwhile , the majority of the other players that spawned in the Steel village still didn't find a single mob and started to get annoyed . After arriving at the blacksmith with the required money he checked the attributes of the sword before buying it . He noticed that the only appraisal he could do was on the for sale equipments in the shop , without getting the actual skill .

Description : A hastily casted one-handed sword by a beginner blacksmith . You can't find worse in the Steel Village .

Laughing at the somewhat accurate description , Arthur immediatly headed back to the forest to find another farming place and higher leveled monsters . His objective was level 5 before this evening .
