Chapter 47: Four Years: Progress, Dreams, and Curses
Several months passed and Yukio became more proficient at manipulating chains. He also learned how to form chakra threads. Instead of making puppets, he used them to manipulate his chains more skillfully. When using them together, his chains felt alive.
He was skilled enough with wielding chains as a weapon that he could easily clear grade three cursed dungeons just by using them alone.
Furthermore, his siblings also found a bo staff and gave it to him. He spared some time to practice it and soon obtained a related skill.

Yukio found the weapon enjoyable and was interested in trying out spears and other similar weapons. Though, he was worried that as he continue trying out new weapons, the more difficult advancing [Basic Bukijutsu] will become.
Yukio also continued practicing the jutsus he had learned. Not only that, he managed to create a genjutsu technique, finally making use of his yin release chakra affinity. More so, it was a technique that satisfied the advancement requirement for [Basic Research]

[Slumbering Pillows: Sweet Dreams]
Category: Genjutsu
Description: A technique that influences targets to fall deeply asleep. While they are asleep, the inflicted individuals will begin to experience alluring dreams that are constructed from the individual's wants and needs. The dreams will continue for eight hours as long as it isn't interrupted. If they sleep for eight hours, they will wake up feeling more refreshed and active compared to normal sleeping.
Requires 50 units of chakra to cast on a single target

He could have created the technique sooner, but he was distracted and focused on other things. It didn't take long for him to create the technique and have it recognized by the system when he began to actually focus on it.
So far, Yukio had tested it on most animals that could be found near the household. As for a human subject, he had used the technique on himself. He found it very, very useful to quickly go asleep. After experiencing it once, Yukio kept doing it every night.

The mission was an unexpected, yet welcomed surprise. Based on the mission's description, Yukio hoped to improve his [Slumbering Pillows: Sweet Dreams] genjutsu to the point where he could reduce the needed hours while keeping the rejuvenating aftereffects.
Since there was a genjutsu creation mission, Yukio assumed that there will be similar missions but for taijutsu, ninjutsu, and even medical ninjutsu. He mentally made a goal for himself to try to research and create those techniques.

Description: When cast upon the target, the target will begin to hear nonsensical whispers around them. However, they will be unable to find who the whispers are coming from. Based on the chakra fueling the technique, the whispers can multiply in number and continue haunting the target for an indefinite amount of time.
Requires 5 units of chakra per whisper and 5 units of chakra per minute

The rewarded genjutsu technique was also neat. Like most genjutsu, it didn't cause any harm to the target, only making them slightly paranoid. Yukio could see himself casting it on an unfortunate shinobi that lasted for an entire year.
As mentioned previously, [Slumbering Pillows: Sweet Dream] was recognized as an effective and efficient method for sleeping. His [Basic Researching] advanced to [Intermediate Researching].

Description: Moderately boosts your proficiency at researching. While researching, you become highly focused and can take in abundant amounts of information. The rate at which you read and understand becomes faster.
To advance the skill, research and create a technique that effectively and efficiently uses both cursed energy and chakra.

The advancement requirement was more difficult this time.
Before his trial in becoming a grade four sorcerer, Yukio had tried to figure out how to fuse chakra and cursed energy into one or at least make them work together, but he never succeeded. Since then, he hadn't delved back into the topic.
When he saw the requirement, he immediately spared more time to researching how to make them work together. He believed that [Intermediate Researching] was an extremely important skill.
Yukio started off the research with something similar.
By applying his body with cursed energy, his physical stats would improve. The same thing happened with reinforcing his body with chakra. By applying and reinforcing both energies at the same time, his physical stats would greatly improve.
In a way, that could be considered an example of cursed energy and chakra working together. But he wanted to do more. Yukio wanted the energies to act like one, but not in a way that they had to be mixed. He wanted to avoid mixing them this time.
While he was researching that, he created another genjutsu technique out of boredom. It was the complete opposite of his [Slumbering Pillows: Sweet Dreams].

Description: A technique applicable only to targets that are asleep. Inflicted individuals will begin to experience terrifying nightmares that are constructed from the individual's fears and hates. The nightmares will persist, trying to force them to stay asleep and not wake up from the nightmares. When they wake up, they will be temporarily overly cautious of their surroundings, even to their friends.

During times where he needed a break from training and researching, Yukio would sometimes draw or write. However, those activities soon became boring. Thanks to his sensei's gift which consisted of a wooden toad, Yukio decided to practice wood carving. Unsurprisingly, he got the skill [Basic Woodcarving].

The skill was somewhat similar to the origami skill, specifically by its advancement method. Except, the requirement was much, much easier.
Other than that, Wriggles and Hex have grown larger and longer. They also had a new friend that was born from the thievery cursed seed.
The gradeless cursed spirit born from the thievery cursed seed looked like a mouse. It didn't have any organic eyes, having gold coins for eyes to see. That wasn't the only weird aspect of the curse.
Its tail was completely replaced by a long, slender human finger around fifteen centimeters long. It had one extra joint in the tail compared to normal humans, making it five finger joints.
It had 'hatched' from its seed a week and a half after Wiggles hatched. When it was born, it weighed around fifteen grams. Now that nearly a year had passed, it weighed around fifty grams. Its finger tail was also longer, now reaching twenty-five centimeters.
Yukio named it 'Thief' after its insatiable desire to steal things from others. It had stolen some things from Yukio and his siblings. However, its behavior was soon corrected thanks to Yukio cutting off its tail and feeding it to Hex.
Now, Thief only stole things from Wiggles and other animals. It even made a hole for it and what it could be considered valuables.
