Chapter 14: CHAPTER 14

I ran to the parlour to meet my dad looking at my mum like he was going to kill her. My brothers were by his side trying to hold him down.

They willed to stop him even when they knew that their little strength could do nothing to prevent him from hitting my mum if that was what he really wanted to do.

But I doubted it. My dad never hits my mum. What he does is torture her with his words and gaslight her.

"Mummy what's wrong?" I asked walking to her." My brothers were already crying. They were both holding my dads hand. If only that could stop him from screaming.

Even though he has never laid his hands on my mum before, the mental, emotional and psychological violence was worse. My mum once confided in me, that she would prefer if my dad hits her than him always abusing her, cursing and swearing at her.

She's really strong to stand him, contrary to what I thought sometimes. Honestly, I just wanted him to leave us in peace. If having a father hurt this much then I didn't need one.

"Mum!" I called again coming closer.

"Mira shut up and enter your room!" my dad yelled. But I was not one to be obedient in situations like this and he knew it.

"What's going on? "I asked, fearfully, tearfully. My lips were shaking and my heart was beating rapidly against my chest. So much for having a nice evening with Peter.

"Go into the room now!" He shouted, looking at me menacingly. The look I saw in his eyes was going to hunt me in my sleep tonight. It felt like he was going to kill me. But I didn't care. I would die for my mother. I would without thinking twice. Family comes first always but that family didn't include my dad.

"How do you want me to go inside when something is clearly wrong!" I shouted, my voice shook with tremor but I didn't bulge.

My dad held my hand tight and dragged me into the room, locking the door behind him.

I was shouting and kicking but he didn't open the door. I became worried for my mum and my brothers. I was so nervous, my heart threatened to burst out of my chest.

I cried even though I promised myself never to cry again, but I couldn't help it. When I heard my brothers shouting, I resumed kicking the door.

Filled with a sudden burst of adrenaline from fear, I started kicking hard with my body resting on the handle. When the door didn't bulge I looked around to find something I could use to break it.

I soon found a harmer on the rail. Holding the door handle I hit the metal with the harmer, once, twice, I was about to do it again when the door opened. Someone opened it. Startled I moved back, my head hit the wall in the process. I feared that It was my Dad coming to teach me a lesson for defying him, luckily it turned out to be my mum. She came in and hugged me tightly.

"Where is he?" I asked, sniffing back my tears. I quickly wiped my face with the back of my hand. I didn't want her to see me cry. She relied on me, I couldn't afford to be weak.

She was shaking. "He left."
