Chapter 72: CHAPTER 72
"I asked you to come because I have been hearing rumors, a lot of rumors about you. First it was the police that has been at the gate for weeks now. Then your sudden relationship with him." she was referring to scar.
My heart skipped. What was she getting at. I thought desperately.
Yes, I suspected that there would be rumors about the sudden relationship between me and Scar. Heck I knew that there would be rumors. But I did not expect the rumors to travel so fast.
I was only happy that the rumors had not travelled to my moms ears, yet. I would kill any straying bird that would think it wise to whisper such rumors to her. Now I was past caring, even if I wanted to care I was too preoccupied right now to.
You know preoccupied with trying to stay alive and avoiding Ken and his goons.
"With all due respect ma. I don't know what you've been hearing, but as you have said yourself they are only rumors. I don't know what you've been told so I can't tell if there is any truth to it. But I can explain what really happened only if you will listen_" I started speaking calmly, but she cut me off again.
She was sure making it a habit and I hated it. My blood was starting to boil with rage.
"Honestly I Don't need your explanation so save it. I don't want what happened yesterday to repeat itself again if not you will end up in police custody. I don't care how it happened but if you cannot handle your messy life then you should take it out of my compound!"
"Woah." I blurted out, shocked.
"But Ma_" I tried to protest, but she shut me up again.
How was I still calm. I wondered.
My heart was beating erratically. I wanted to shout back at her.
"I don't want to hear it! The reason why I asked you to come here is because I wanted to tell you my mind before I sent you and your family packing. Luckily for you a miracle happened this morning and I got an alert. Someone paid your house rent for this year and the next in full. And the person also added the money for the refurbishing of the compound. " I didn't know if she was happy or sad about it as her face remained blank. "You have been saved this time. You and your wretched family."
I was beyond bemused and angry. "What!"
I didn't believe what I heard. It Had to be ken who else?
I looked at scar and he didn't look the least surprise. His face revealed no emotions.
Maybe he expected this. I had mixed feelings about it all. I didn't know for sure what I felt in that moment, but I knew anger was a large portion of it.
"Yes, you're lucky I must say." She smiled evilly. "Guess your work paid off."
Money really was the root to all evil. I could not believe she didn't want to hear me out. Meaning she believed the rumors she heard.
I was previously of the opinion that she liked me but I was wrong. All the times that she praised me for being such a good girl never came from her heart. Her praises of me started and ended on her lips.
People were deceitful I knew that, but I didn't think she was.
"I would like to explain Ma, that's if you give me the chance to, but first I beg of you to leave my family out of this!" I tried to speak some sense into her. I was doing well curtailing my anger.
My head was raging with so many thoughts I feared that a migraine would start this morning, again. I didn't want that.
"There is no need to explain are you deaf!" She screamed.
I lost my cool and my heart stopped beating_ then started instantly all at once, the thump thump sound in my head almost drove me insane.
"Ma please calm down. Nothing that happened is Mira's fault, she will not want to burn down a place she lives in more so with her family in it. You should watch how you speak to her." Scar interjected, shocking both of us.
"Well I guess the rumors were true. You guys are sleeping with each other. Disgusting. I always knew she won't turn out to be anything else but a slut. Her father left because of her promiscuity and her mothers now she would turn out_"
"That's enough!" Scar snapped. " I've heard enough!" He stood up.
He eyed the woman in front of us with so much disdain, if murder wasn't a crime I was sure he would have killed her then and there. Funny enough I shared the same sentiments.
"Wow." I said stultified. "I guess I should take my leave then."
I stood up and headed for the door with shaky legs.
When I got to the door I decided that I couldn't leave without at least giving her a taste of her own medicine.
