Chapter 3: Multiple Selves
Everyone has multiple selves, but do you actually realize it? You act different depending on the group of people you are with. Your public self is known by you and others. Your blind self is not known by you, but it is by others. It's what they see in you that you don't see in yourself. Your hidden self is known by you, but not by others. And finally your unknown self is not known by you or by others.
When I'm around different groups, I act differently of course. Depending on the people, the environment and that situation really depends on how I'll portray myself. Often times I seem bubbly, carefree, open minded and an all around great, happy person.
When I'm home, my family sees the side of me that is much closer to the real me than outsiders see. They see the anxiety, depression, the overeating, the laziness, but also the caring and loving as well.
But personally, I know that I am all of it. I would say I'm the most open minded person out there. I'm eager to hear about people's problems and resolve them, quick to put myself in situations to make other people's lives better, and also loving enough to do anything even if that means putting my own happiness and success on the back burner. I'm a nurturer, I'm a lover, I'm a giver and I'm a supporter. For people who don't have support for things they're interested in life, I'm there. As long as it's not harming them or anyone else, and it makes them happy then I'll support it. If only others would do the same for me.
I use to have people come to me for medical advice, and still do. I use to have people come to me for piercing advice, and still do. I use to have people come to me for life advice, and still do. And I use to have people come to me for sexual advice, and still do! I'm always that person who doesn't care about the topic, and am experienced enough to help guide them through it. I normalize things that are otherwise abnormal. And that's something I take a lot of pride in. I've never been one to fit in, and looking back it caused many problems, but I'm happy to be different.
My close friends know they can trust me and keep their secrets. I've kept secrets ranging from self harm, to cheating, and everything in between. And it doesn't make me think any different about them. That is the beauty of my friendships. Honesty and trust are two things that are hard to come by in today's world.
My sexual side is on a completely different level as well. I'm here to please, and to encourage people's desires no matter how taboo they are. In a judgment free zone, it's okay to talk about and do things that are out of the ordinary. With trust building and patience, it becomes very easy to manage. Right now my parents would never approve of this part of my life, however this is the more prominent one.
