Chapter 9: 9. Like Floating Clouds
Midtown High School.
A lady was teaching her class with a serious expression. Most of the students were listening while some were just pretending to listen.
One boy among them was even sleeping. He placed a book on his face and blatantly slept while a lecture was going on. The teacher seemed ignorant of this boy and continued.
Ding!
The bell sounded. The lady teacher picked her books and left. After she left the students started to leave one by one, the class got quite noisy which woke up the sleeping boy.
He yawned and looked around. Three fellows were walking towards him, two boys and a girl.
"Geez, Adam. How the heck can you even sleep in every class and still get top marks."
One of the boys asked.
The boy who was sleeping in class was none other than Adam. The two boys infront of him were Peter and Harry.
"Yeah. How do you do it?"
This time it was the girl that spoke. She had auburn hair and black eyes, with a sweet lovely face. This was their classmate and good friend, Elle.
Adam shrugged. He got up, tidied his desk and went out with his friends. The four of them formed a click, which no one else was able to get into.
"What's your plan Adam? We are in our last year, surely you must have a goal."
Harry asked. Adam smiled and replied.
"Come on Harry. I told you many times before, I will take over my father's business, so stop trying to rope me in."
Harry showed a regretful expression.
"Shame, you could have made a great future in Osborn Industries."
"Hey, Harry! You haven't even become the CEO and you are already trying to pull in talents, wow! "
Peter snided.
"Shut it!"
Elle just smiled from the side, she was the quite one in this rowdy bunch but she liked it. She liked their company, especially Adam's...
Adam can be considered as a handsome young man. The past years changed him completely, he had a chiseled face, fair skin and pure black eyes that seems to draw in her attention.
Elle first saw him when they were in Middle school. At that time she thought Adam looked cool, as time passed she liked him even more and somehow it evolved into something much stronger.
"Peter, good luck on your exams."
They were at a crossroad and split off. Harry would walk with them to this point before getting picked up by his driver.
Peter's house was in another direction so he waved goodbye and ran off. Only Elle and Adam remained, this was her favourite part of the day.
A lone walk with Adam.
They spoke irrelevant things and walked. Both of them liked being next to each other, it started as a gentleman's duty to safely escort a girl to her residence.
But then it changed to something they looked forward to. Time passed like floating clouds, soon both of them reached Elle's home.
Rose Residence.
This was a place for those without family. Elle was an orphan, she was raised by the nuns in this residence. To Elle they were her family.
Adam felt slightly lost. He looked at her sweet face and felt his heart beat faster.
Elle felt her face burn when Adam stared at her, she didn't understand why he was looking at her like that. Her head was hung down, a slight expectation rose in her heart.
Adam realised he was being rude, "See you tomorrow Elle."
Adam said goodbye and walked away. Elle was disappointed, she turned around and went inside the Residence.
The moment she walked in she saw a bunch of Nuns watching her closely. Elle realised something and blushed deeply.
"Don't you guys get bored spying on me every day?"
"No.(All of them)"
Elle blushed even harder. She rushed towards her room and closed the door with a bang. The Nuns shook their head.
"Young kids nowadays... they have no confidence."
"Yeah. That Adam kid is good, he has a mature charm to him."
"What's the word from Sister Margaret?"
"All good. He is a good kid. Top of the class, no flirting with other girls, kind and respectful to elderly, and charming. The only problem is that he often gets into fights with boys in his school."
"Hmm, what for?"
"Mainly for his friend."
"What about the result?"
"He floored four to five boys in seconds."
"Ha! That's good! A man should be bold and courageous otherwise he isn't worthy of our baby."
"Um! He is a good choice."
Adam had no idea that he was investigated by a bunch of nuns and was being discussed by them. He was walking along the streets of New York city, reminiscing about the last eight years.
Years like floating clouds...
Eight years went by in a flash. He was already in the last year of highschool, his parents were happy that he got good marks but they never pestered him into taking a career he didn't like.
Adam wanted to work as a chef. He had trained starting from when he was a kid and had accumulated knowledge in various cuisines and was an expert in four of them.
His plan is to take over his parents restaurant, but that's for the future. A chef is only good when he earns heartfelt praise from his customers.
His parents were happy for him. Adam had already proven his worth in the past couple of years, customers would always ask for him whenever they came in. This showed how skilled Adam was.
He soon reached his home. The shop was about to close, a few customers lingered around, leisurely drinking tea.
"Good Evening Adam!"
"Good Evening!"
Adam greeted all of them with a smile and went inside. His parents were older but they had a healthy glow to them, Adam smiled and called out.
"Mom! Dad!"
"Adam, come, we saved a piece for you."
Adam sat beside his mother and picked up a yellow cake. His face showed bliss eating the cake.
"As always, Mom's cake taste like heaven."
His father laughed, as did his mother.
"Stop flattering. Finish eating and go take a shower."
"Yes!"
Adam ate the remaining cake and went up to take a shower. The water calmed his mind, a lot of thoughts circled his mind, he clenched his fist.
The world will soon start to change. Now I have enough power to protect them!
