Chapter 3: Beautiful Mountainside

In the Eastern Province of Luo, there were great amount of grassland and mountains surrounding the region. When in summer, one can do horse riding or simply enjoying the beautiful scenery. On the other side of the mountains resides a group of nomadic tribe around five hundred people. They were all close-knitted.

Among them was a girl named, Lady Su Yin, the daughter of a famous warrior, Nadi. Su Yin was just as beautiful as her mother, her lush long black hair swings as she ran across the pastures. When sunlight shone on her pale white face, she looked like an angel descended from above. Wearing her traditional tribal clothing made her even real stunning. Her beautiful smile and the way she looks, no one can reject her. She is a beautiful angel and a warrior like her mother.

But one thing has to be hidden from others, she cannot reveal that she knows how to fight. It is looked down upon. Like any other girls from the tribes, she learned music, arts, horse riding, literature and some cooking. She was a fast learner. She was also graceful, gentle and kind to others.

Her father was a famous general working for the King of the Eastern Yuan, her mother passed away before her eighteenth birthday. Her sister and other aunts and uncle were all with her. She was not lonely at all.

It was the day when Su Yin's father, General Wei, came back home. Su Yin and the others prepared a huge feast upon his return. Various homemade food and special delicacies were on the table as well. They were all looking forward to his return, he haven't visited Su Yin in the past months or so.

As the evening approaches, Su Yin saw a shadow from afar. She heard horses galloping closer and closer. General Wei got off the horse and slowly walked towards the crowd.

"Father!" Su Yin quickly met up with General Wei and gave him a huge hug. She was crying happy tears when she saw him. General Wei also cannot contain his happiness and gave her a huge hug as well.

"My daughter, Su Yin. You've grown more beautiful than the last time I saw you. You look just like your mother. I missed you so much." Su Yin was relieved her father made it back safe and sound.

"Father, you must be tired and hungry. We prepared a huge feast for you." Su Yin showed him around and then, a group of people started to gather around them as well.

"Welcome back, General!! We've been waiting." Her father's best friend came and gave him a huge welcome back hug.

"You've got skinnier, did you skip your meals when you're at the palace?" He teased the General.

"Haha. I wish I can skip. I think I got fatter. Palace food was good but not as good as home cooked meals. These looks delicious. Everyone, let's start eating!" Everyone was chattering and laughing, Su Yin looked at them and felt warm inside.

"Welcome home, Father." She smiled.

Few days after, General Wei made an announcement. Su Yin and her father agreed to go to the Eastern Yuan Province royal palace to meet with Prince An Ye.

"As you all know, my daughter, Su Yin is at the age of marriage. The King of the Eastern Yuan was asking Su Yin to visit the palace. We might not be able to come back any time soon. We will leave in the next few days. I know this was sudden but I hope you will all understand." General Wei looked at Su Yin and nodded.

"It will be first time leaving home. Thank you everyone for looking after me. I will make sure to visit all of you when I get back. I still have a lot to learn so I hope everyone can guide me. Once again, I will miss all of you." Su Yin looked back at her father and smiled.

An Ya looked teary eyed and hugged Su Yin, "For all of these years, thank you for taking care of me like I was your real sister. I will really miss you." She cried as she hugged Su Yin.

"An Ya, I'm actually thinking of bringing you with me. Do you want to come with me? I don't want to be alone at the palace." Su Yin asked kindly.

An Ya's eyes brightened up and smiled, "Of course."

Few days later, when they were all set to go to the palace. Su Yin, An Ya, and General Wei all left together. Other members of the tribe waved them good bye. Su Yin took a last glance of her home and she will be missing the grassland as well.

When they arrived at the Eastern Yuan palace, all of the maids and guards all bowed to General Wei.

"No need, no need. Please all stand up." General Wei was well-known throughout the province of his great fighting skills and defeated many armies.

Then moments later, a bearded man came out of the palace.

"General Wei! Welcome, the King is waiting for you inside. Please follow me." General Wei and Su Yin followed the man.

Su Yin was surprised on how big the palace was. She looked all around and was in awe.

"Please come in." A voice was heard behind the door.

General Wei bowed down to the King.

"My King, I've come. I brought my daughter as well. Su Yin, bow to the King." Su Yin nodded and bowed, "Greetings, your majesty."

"Good, good. Your daughter is very well mannered." The King stood up from his seat and came down.

"Please stand up, General Wei. You too, Lady Su Yin. My son is currently outside. He will be back soon. I'll ask a maid to take you to your room, Lady Su Yin. Please let her know if you need anything. Yue'er, please take Lady Su Yin to her bedroom and serve her well." Yue'er nodded, "Yes, your majesty."

Su Yin went in to her new bedroom, it was hundred times bigger than her small hut.

"Lady Su Yin, this is your bedroom. If you need anything, please tell me. I'll be serving you from now on."

"Yue'er, is that your real name?" Su Yin wanted to know her real name.

"Everyone calls me, Yue'er because I have a moon birthmark on my neck. When I came here, I had no name. You can call me anything or Yue'er is fine too." Su Yin was disappointed but she smiled, "Yue'er, can I give you a name?" Yue'er nodded.

"Ruo Lan. It mean like an orchid. Do you like it?" Yue'er smiled, "I like it. Thank you."

Moments later, An Ya came into the room.

"Su Yin, sorry I was late." Su Yin shook her head, "No need to apologize, here, meet Ruo Lan. She is my new friend." An Ya smiled and bowed.

"I'm An Ya, Su Yin's best friend." As they talked for another hour or so, the same bearded man came.

"Lady Su Yin, the King wants to see you. Please come." Su Yin looked at them and nodded.

"I'll be back."

As she followed the man to the King's place, Su Yin noticed some palace maids were looking at her in awe.

"Do you know why they are looking at me?" The old bearded man chuckled, "You are a beauty. They never seen anyone so beautiful." Su Yin face went red.

As they went in, Su Yin bowed to the King.

"Your Majesty."

"Please stand up, I want you to meet my son. Prince An Ye." Su Yin stood up and saw a man both handsome and beautiful. Prince An Ye looked at Su Yin and was unable to take his eyes off of her. He was in shock, Su Yin was exotically beautiful.

"My son, this is Su Yin. Your future wife. Please greet her properly." The King sternly said.

"I'm Prince An Ye. Lady Su Yin, if you don't mind, do you want to take a walk around the garden?" Su Yin nodded.

As they walked around the garden, there were many kinds of flowers and a bridge.

Su Yin thought about her home in the beautiful mountainside and the grassland, She missed home but at the same time, she looked forward in spending her life with Prince An Ye.
