Chapter 9: The Will (III)
Ru Ran was happy that she still has the chance to return to her own home and not Matriach Du's home. She was surprised to see the place she considers home was bustling around like usual, she did not hide her surprise expression and it was immediately noticed by Mr Gan.
Mr Gan explained that he had given orders for those who were employed by her parents to continue working as per her parents will. Their salary will be deducted from the savings her parents had saved up for her. This house now belongs to her and the process is being handled by Mr Gan's son.Ru Ran nodded her head to indicate she understood his explanation.
"Uncle Gan, then, can I stay here instead? I really don't want to go to Matriach Du's house. She reminds me of Cruella, you know the lady in 101 Dalmatians?," she asked looking at him with widened eyes and a hopeful expression.
"This matter is truly complicated, your mother is from a small family with few descendants, hence she doesn't have many relatives, while for your father's family... Well, the only ones worth mentioning is his mother's parents, but... They are no longer around and your paternal great grandmother also did not have many offsprings, so your choices are truly limited. Few months ago, your parents had been looking into their family genealogy and at this moments, people are still working on locating any long lost relatives that are worth while for you. In summary, you can only delay the inevitable for as long as you can but at the same time, we shall continue to search for anyone suitable, so please don't be disheartened or lose hope," Mr Gan explained patiently.
Everything now make sense, it seems the couple had somewhat expected this outcome and had been preparing to ensure their daughter would not suffer any loss in any event their lifespan were to reduce prematurely. Ru Ran was processing the information given to her and continue to be silent, she then looked up once again to Mr Gan and asked, "What about Sister Fong? Can't she be my guardian? If her marital status is an issue, I know of someone, who I think is worthy of her, what about your son, Mr Gan? He is charming and super good looking but most importantly, he is nice deep down."
Fong Siew Lay, who was drinking water, almost choked when she heard Ru Ran's words. Internally, she did not know if to laugh or cry. At this junction, Ru Ran is behaving exactly like a child should behave, innocent and inquisitive. As she was about to brush those feelings aside, she heard a deep voice, and she could not help but look around trying to follow the direction where the voice originated. It was as if a magnet was pulling her towards that voice.
"I overheard a beautiful little girl praising my looks, it appears that I have made my entrance at the right time."
It was none other that the younger Mr Gan. Ru Ran quickly ran towards him and gave him a hug, she then clung onto his forearm, refusing to let go. He let out a low booming chuckle, this girl, she did not know, she is the only girl he allows to come near him, and no one in their right mind, would ever call him nice. He shook his head helplessly at his father. Ru Ran's father, Du Wen Hao was his best friend and to think this girl lost her parents at such young age, truly such a pity.
"As I was saying, why can't you and Sister Fong be my guardian? Just get married and then won't it all settled?" Ru Ran voice out her thoughts out loud once more afraid that the adults did not hear her the first time.
Fong Siew Lay wanted to hide herself in a hole, wishing the floor could open up and swallow her whole. Hey, little girl, you must not spout nonsense in the presence of the concerned party. Despite saying that in her heart, she knew she could not hold any sort of grudge towards the cute little bun. At the same time, she could not help but steal a few glance at the man who had to appear at such awkward moment. She quickly averted her gaze and stared at a reference point on the floor.
